Once the local schoolhouse in the village of Beighton, this place has been converted into a masterpiece of a home. The bell that once summoned children to class is gone, but the bell-gable still juts up into the sky and the red-brick facade is the same as the day it was built. Rather than a gritty tarmac playground, the half acre of grounds around the home has been transformed into a delightful place to relax – in deckchairs on the lawn or at the picnic-style dining table secluded by trees. A huge, atrium-style conservatory in glass and ink-black runs the length of the building where you’ll find the dine-in kitchen – a farmhouse-style arrangement with a big range cooker for family meals and open shelves lined with all the crockery and trinkets you need. We love the additional pantry and utility room with its Belfast sink harking back to the 19th century. Relax with a cuppa in the conservatory and spot birds at the feeder in the garden. In the evening, retire to the grand main living room at the centre of the house. It’s as big as a church hall with a lofty, gabled ceiling, but once you’ve got a... fire crackling away it feels cosy-warm. Exploring the surrounding area, you’ll find Beighton’s famous 14th-century church a short walk away and an Alpaca centre for a day out with the kids. This home is pretty much equidistant between the buzzing medieval city of Norwich (19km away) and the Victorian seaside town of Great Yarmouth (18km away) with its long stretch of beach. A five-minute drive away lies the market town of Acle – gateway to the Norfolk Broads.
