This soulful studio is calm, charming and cosily romantic. It's set in a Victorian building and you can see some of that period character in the high ceilings, exposed brick and oak flooring. Parrot cushions and colourful throws give it a quirky personality, while the furniture is simple yet stylish. You'll love how friendly and knowledgeable host Gabrielle is, plus the way natural light pours in through large windows. We like how the bed is tucked away from the living area, so there's a nice sense of separation between where you relax and where you sleep. The snug size does mean there's no washing machine or dishwasher, but neither's an issue if you're not staying too long, and as Islington is known for its buzzing restaurant and gastropub scene, we doubt you'd be getting up to much cooking. Bustling Upper Street is about a ten-minute stroll – home to an array of cosy cafes, independent shops and delicious eateries – and public transport links here are top-notch, with three different stations less than ten minutes away.

Home truths
This is a studio with no door separating the living area from the sleeping area, but the bed is tucked away in the back of the flat
This apartment is small, so it’s not for those wanting plenty of space – that said, the excellent location more than makes up for the size
There's no washing machine and no dishwasher in this apartment, but there is an induction hob and a small toaster oven if you’d like to rustle up breakfast or lunch
This home is in a well-loved period property so there are some general signs of wear and tear
The wifi will request you to login each time you leave and re-enter the home which can be tedious
The bedroom area is snug – the bed is pushed up against the wall and the wardrobe doors bump into it when open

Local guide
About Islington
Tree-lined terraces of very enviable Georgian townhouses, amazing restaurants, coffeeshops, and gastropubs, it's not hard to see why Islington is so popular with affluent media types. It's very well connected (ten minutes on the Victoria Line to Oxford Circus) and it's got a wonderfully residential feel - almost totally tourist free for some strange reason. Have a roast lunch at the Drapers Arms on a weekend and you'll quickly realise what makes Islington living so sought-after.

Get Delicious Seafood at Prawn on The Lawn
The romantic and intimate setting here is to die for. Enjoy oysters washed down with some fine English sparkling wine.

Indulge in Italian food at Trullo
Opened in June 2010, offering a simple, seasonally focused, Italian inspired menu that changes daily. Fresh hand-made pastas and their charcoal grill are the focus points of the menu.

Start your day at Vagabond N7
This is a local gem for coffee and freshly baked cakes. Located just off Stroud Green Road, go hang out with the locals.

Relax with a book in Highbury Fields
Perfect to sit or stroll after a good meal and to enjoy the local lifestyle. Highbury Fields is the largest green open space in the London Borough of Islington. Perfect for summer days.

Check what's on at Union Chapel
This gothic revival church is a live event space, working church and a homeless drop-in centre. If there are no events during your stay, this stunning 19th century chapel is still worth a look.

Savour the perfect brunch at Sunday Cafe & Restaurant
This cosy café is a local favourite for what many might call the epitome of brunch. Expect plates stacked high with colourful fresh goodness and queues at the weekend, but it's well worth the wait.

Have a drink or two at the Hemingford Arms
A quaint and gorgeous looking pub, where traditional meets modern. This cosy pub serves a fine selection of ales and some tasty home-made Thai food to go with it!

Indulge in Pizza at Zia Lucia
Zia Lucia is extremely popular - we would recommend going at lunch time if you want to ensure you get a table. Making no compromise on the quality of the pizza, the oven here is from Naples.

Choose off the chalkboard at Westerns Laundry
An airy, modern-industrial restaurant offering British & Spanish small plates plus natural wines. Enjoy stunning dishes like ox cheeks and a lovely wine selection in a cosy and charming atmosphere.

Enjoy a leisurely walk through this beautiful park, admiring the well-maintained flowers and hedges. Find tranquility on the benches, or let your furry friend roam freely with the dog-friendly amenities.

Pet the animals at Freightliners Farm
