Love a little retail therapy? This could be the place for you. Stroll down Avenida da Liberdade, the tree-lined boulevard this home is situated on, and you’re met with an abundance of shops. After a day of sightseeing and shopping, this apartment, perfect for a couple, is a welcome retreat. Comfortable and well-equipped, you’ll find all you need for a relaxing stay in the city. And the cherry on the cake? The communal rooftop pool – just the spot to relax and cool off in the Portuguese heat. 

Lisbon Retreat

Light and airy, this intimate apartment is inspired by the beautiful beaches of Indonesia. Rugged, earthy tones command the living room, creating a restful ambiance that lets you feel instantly at home. Whilst settling into the calming interior, you'll sometimes forget you're on holiday.

The cosy desk in the living room provides the ideal working spot for a productive afternoon. We recommend setting up there if you want to try your hand as a digital nomad or simply catch up on some emails whilst you're away. The welcoming balcony also provides an idyllic location if you want to enjoy the warmth of the day whilst you work.

Outside of the inviting rustic walls and neutral tones, Lisbon is a beguiling city that exudes charm on every corner. Luckily, you're located just next to its charismatic centre. 

Barrio Alta, one of the trendy suburbs brimming with attractions, is just a seventeen minute walk away. If you stroll just a little bit further, you reach the glistening promenade that's one of the myriad of highlights of Portugal's captivating capital. 

Beaches Of Bali

Settle into a pet-friendly apartment in Avenidas Novas, where restaurants are dotted between the nearby bus stops for easy adventuring across Lisbon. There's a scenic park within strolling distance, plus the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. We love how much room this interior gives groups of four. While the lack of air conditioning may be a dealbreaker to some, it's a cosy spot for itinerary planning over breakfast. Have work to do? We're sure you'll fly through your tasks at the bedroom desk.

Glimpse Of Spring

Located in a historical building in Picoas, which was designed by the esteemed Modernist architect Cassiano Branco, Mind Garden is a unique home. While the furniture is quite unobtrusive, the bare architectural bones take centre stage, expressing themselves most obviously in the dining pavilion. Natural light will never be a problem in this home, but taller guests might not appreciate the sloping ceilings in the communal area. While the streets of Picoas aren't as central as Baixa, they are extremely well-connected to the riverside while maintaining a local flavour.

Mind Garden

With books, board games, a film library, darts and even mini-golf, you certainly won’t be bored at this classic Lisbon home. A beautiful back garden filled with plants, birds and fish makes for the perfect entertaining spot – throw dinner on the grill or pass time idly on the outdoor sofa with some Vinho Verde in hand. The older architecture of the building gives the home plenty of character – we love the high ceilings with plaster moldings, massive working fireplace, and marble floors. There’s an understated elegance to the home and a comfortable, lived-in family vibe, all while preserving the feeling that this stay is entirely unique. You’ll be steps from one of the most magical lookout points in the city – Senhora de Monte – and surrounded by the district of Graça. It has the local atmosphere of an old neighbourhood – full of shops, butchers, restaurants and cafes, while still being central to the sights of the city. Hop on the legendary yellow tram 28, which passes 100 metres in front of the home, and ride it to the top of Lisbon’s hills to admire the city’s architectural treasures. You’re only a twelve-minute walk from the beautiful buildings and streets of Alfama, where Lisbon’s charm is sure to take hold of you.


The Roman

Cosy and charming, this studio apartment may be compact, but it certainly is comfortable. You'll find it in a historic building that was once owned by the Menezes family, and this heritage is evident with an exposed stone wall and a quaint Juliet balcony overlooking the street and offering a partial view of the Tagus. We love how the combined living/sleeping space is bathed in Portuguese sunlight – our only quibble is the kitchen, which is quite tiny. That said, it gets the job done for breakfasts and light bites, and besides, Lisbon is home to some truly fantastic eateries and delicious local cuisine – we doubt you'll get up to much cooking, anyway.

As for discovering these top-notch eateries, you won't have to travel far. This is one of the most authentic districts in Lisbon, where restaurants are tucked away down steep, cobbled alleyways and cafes flank the bustling squares. You're right in the centre, too, just a seventeen-minute stroll from Praça do Comércio – as far as locales go, you can't really beat it. And, if your feet need a break from all the walking, a handy metro station is also nearby – win, win.

Gold & Satin Mornings

Situated in the charming area of Graça, this luminous flat is a cosy retreat in one of Lisbon's most authentic neighbourhoods. The sun-kissed private terrace is our favourite spot. Begin the morning out there with a strong cup of coffee and pasteis de nata in the fresh air – your host can also arrange breakfast – and close the day with a glass of Vinho Verde come nightfall. You'll also have access to a communal garden, which is perfect for picnics in the late-afternoon sunshine. Inside, the sleek design is complemented by brilliant pops of red. Sprawl out on the sofa for a post-sightseeing catnap or gather around the table for a typical Portuguese dinner. 

Another thing we adore is the location. You're a bit further away from the hustle and bustle in the city centre, but with the famous 28 Tram a short walk away, you won't have to travel far to see the sights. Here, narrow streets are flanked by local restaurants, bakeries and open-air cafes, all serving up delectable regional dishes. Make sure to take in the panoramic views from the hilltop observation points – our favourite is Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, easily reached on foot. Or, explore in style and ask your host to arrange river cruises, helicopter tours and other experiences.

Vermilion at Dusk

Carefully curated, this laidback apartment is brimming with charm. There’s a focus on natural textures – think wood, wicker and linen – with a cool blue, grey and white colour palette. Spend mornings relaxing in the light-filled living space – find the comfiest spot on the couch or take a seat at the dining table with a pastel de nata and a bica (espresso). Open the French doors and step onto the patio for views of terracotta rooftops and that famous Iberian sunshine. And if that wasn’t peaceful enough, your principal bedroom overlooks the Jardim do Torel – it’s often referred to as Lisbon’s hidden garden by the locals. Step out of your building and you’ll find yourself right on the edge of Praça dos Restauradores, one of the city’s most bustling squares. It joins up with the leafy Avenida de Liberdade and places you a fifteen-minute walk from the upscale Príncipe Real neighbourhood – one of our favourite bairros for food and drink. 

The Sunbathers

It's impossible to talk about Evaristo's Cauldron without first mentioning the lovely host Susana, who lives in the same building and treats all guests as if they were old friends. Located in Principe Real, this home is close to all central attractions, but the immediate surroundings are fairly quiet. Even though this home is located in an old building, both the exterior and interior are impeccable. Evaristo's Cauldron preserves traditional Portuguese architectural features while ensuring that this home is comfortable, functional, and designed with a mixture of old and new chic. 

Evaristo's Cauldron

Situated in Mouraria, home to sun-dappled cobbled lanes and the bustling Martim Moniz square that erupts with Asian, African, and Arabic flavours, this apartment is a perfect choice for those wanting to explore the city’s history. There’s a focus on relaxation here, with a no-fuss approach to the interiors and a private terrace where you’ll spend mornings soaking up the glorious Iberian sunshine. Take inspiration from the exploration themed artwork as you sip an espresso or sit down at the contemporary dining table and put the finishing touches to your agenda. The dinky kitchenette is equipped with the basics, though with Lisbon’s rich culinary scene on your doorstep, we imagine you’ll be doing most of your dining out. Take the eighteen-minute stroll downhill to Praça do Comércio, stopping off at the Santa Justa Elevator and 12th century Lisbon Cathedral along the way. End your excursion at the River Tagus; find a spot to watch a knockout sunset dance across the calm waters.

The Azure Miniatures

With unobstructed views of Alfama, Lisbon's charismatic medieval neighbourhood, this apartment will place you in the best location to explore the city's rich history. It's next to the Sé de Lisboa cathedral, so you won't have to walk far to see your first attraction. You're also no more than a five-minute walk to Baixa – the historical and geographical heart of the city – where you'll discover magnificent plazas, grand avenues and impressive Pombaline architecture. A timeless, rustic home with original azulejo tilework, antique wood-panelled walls, a standalone bath, and two reading nooks in the living room. There's hardly a corner in this home that couldn't feature in an interiors magazine as a prime example of rustic chic. The classical decor immediately had us in the mood to seek out another must-see/hear Lisbon experience, fado. You've got a few choices within a ten-minute walk, but the elegant Casa da Linhares stood out to us. Where better to listen to this mysterious and melancholic music while you dine on typically Portuguese dishes than in the foundation of an earthquake-ruined palace?

The Little Bastu

With a palatial façade, stunning minimalist interiors, and proximity to the poshest shopping street in Lisbon, Nova Inspirada packs quite a punch. But don't be fooled by the central location – this home is tucked away on a quiet street where you can relax on any of your many terraces, which includes the communal atrium. We tested this home in the winter, so the outside spaces don't look as appealing as they will in the summer, but the building itself hides the remains of a Roman settlement, so you'll be living and breathing history.
