Situated in the charming area of Graça, this luminous flat is a cosy retreat in one of Lisbon's most authentic neighbourhoods. The sun-kissed private terrace is our favourite spot. Begin the morning out there with a strong cup of coffee and pasteis de nata in the fresh air – your host can also arrange breakfast – and close the day with a glass of Vinho Verde come nightfall. You'll also have access to a communal garden, which is perfect for picnics in the late-afternoon sunshine. Inside, the sleek design is complemented by brilliant pops of red. Sprawl out on the sofa for a post-sightseeing catnap or gather around the table for a typical Portuguese dinner. 

Another thing we adore is the location. You're a bit further away from the hustle and bustle in the city centre, but with the famous 28 Tram a short walk away, you won't have to travel far to see the sights. Here, narrow streets are flanked by local restaurants, bakeries and open-air cafes, all serving up delectable regional dishes. Make sure to take in the panoramic views from the hilltop observation points – our favourite is Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, easily reached on foot. Or, explore in style and ask your host to arrange river cruises, helicopter tours and other experiences.

With a palatial façade, stunning minimalist interiors, and proximity to the poshest shopping street in Lisbon, Nova Inspirada packs quite a punch. But don't be fooled by the central location – this home is tucked away on a quiet street where you can relax on any of your many terraces, which includes the communal atrium. We tested this home in the winter, so the outside spaces don't look as appealing as they will in the summer, but the building itself hides the remains of a Roman settlement, so you'll be living and breathing history.

Back at this modern apartment, housed in a characterful blue-hued building, inside is quite a contrast, in that it’s quite generic, but it has everything you need for a comfortable city break or a longer stay if you’re working in Lisbon.

Tucked away inside a typical Lisbon townhouse, this cute and characterful space is a delightful surprise. With a wooden Pombaline frame that transforms the communal area into a library, this home is an excellent option for an avid reader – the outdoor balcony will win over the rest with gorgeous views of the nearby botanical garden. While most visitors flock to the likes of Alfama and Bairro Alto, this stunning apartment is located in the heart of Principe Real. Admittedly, it's further away from the historical city centre, but its pastel-coloured mansion apartments and wide boulevards provide it with a charm all of its own. You'll find the enchanting ten-acre Jardim Botânico de Lisboa and the lush Jardim do Príncipe Real within a five-minute walk. While your capable kitchen can handle anything you can throw at/over it, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to local eateries – it's a veritable foodie heaven. Choose to chow down at A Cevicheria, where you can indulge in a light and zesty menu of citrus-cured fish and mouth-puckering pisco sours. Alternatively, Atalho Real plates up melt-in-the-mouth meat in a relaxed environment. Location might be the most important consideration when you’re booking an escape to the city, but with this home in the heart of Lisbon that doesn’t mean compromising on style. Already crisp, minimal, and understated, you can also add bright to the list as soon as you open the shuttered windows dotted around this home. With the light streaming in, the contrast of the mostly white interior will make the green of the house plants look all the more vivid, whilst creating a calming and rejuvenating atmosphere. Enjoy the mezzanine bedroom by staying in bed with a good book and a cup of coffee. Eventually, you can make your way down to the sleek kitchen to grab a bite to eat before setting off to explore the city on your doorstep. 

The iconic Lisbon Cathedral is a thirty-minute walk away, but there are plenty of restaurants and cafes along the way to make a pit stop, or two, at. Put your photography skills to the test as you try to capture the vibrance of the city as you make the twenty-three-minute walk to the monumental 1940 Fonte Luminosa. There are also plenty of museums to explore and then Time Out Market lies in wait at the other end of an eighteen-minute trip on the public transport. Wherever your feet take you, you can always head back to this homely oasis when you need to put them up and simply relax.

The Lisbon Minimalist

In cities across the globe, it's more often than not true that the closer a home is to the centre, the less likely it is that it'll have any outdoor space. This apartment in the middle of Lisbon bucks this trend – not only does it have a private terrace with an alfresco dining table, but guests also get access to a communal garden that's blessed with bountiful amounts of plant life.

While these respective spaces are an explosion of colour, the home's interior is much simpler by contrast. The walls and ceilings are painted stark white, which makes it feel instantly bright and welcoming. There's a minimalist approach to furnishings and decoration, although the kitchen that could kindly be described as space-efficient perhaps embraces this trend a little too much. Aside from that, there's very little to fault with this simple but elegant home.

To top it all off, the location is excellent regardless if you're visiting Lisbon for the first or fiftieth time. Both Museu Nacional do Azulejo and Castelo de São Jorge can be reached in around twenty minutes on foot, albeit in opposite directions, while Praça do Comércio takes all of eighteen minutes to reach on the tram.

Located in a historical building in Picoas, which was designed by the esteemed Modernist architect Cassiano Branco, Mind Garden is a unique home. While the furniture is quite unobtrusive, the bare architectural bones take centre stage, expressing themselves most obviously in the dining pavilion. Natural light will never be a problem in this home, but taller guests might not appreciate the sloping ceilings in the communal area. While the streets of Picoas aren't as central as Baixa, they are extremely well-connected to the riverside while maintaining a local flavour.

Ideally located opposite Praça dos Restauradores, this carefully curated apartment offers a comfortable, central base from which to explore Lisbon’s most celebrated sights. 
 
Step into the open-plan living area where tall ceilings, wood floors and a kaleidoscope of colourful furnishings await. Make yourself comfortable on the plump sofa with a cup of fresh coffee and a locally bought pastel de nata, or perch by the Juliet balcony with a glass of Portuguese wine after a day of exploring the city. The dining table beckons sociable soirées when you’re not out sampling the local dining scene, while the two pared-back bedrooms offer a sound night’s sleep. But that’s if you can wake up in time – the comfy beds are irresistible. After a quick workout in the communal fitness room, take a ten-minute stroll to the Largo da Graça where an endless supply of bakeries, eateries and wine bars, as well as one of the most spectacular viewpoints boasting boundless views of Lisbon await. Carry on for another ten minutes to reach ancient Alfama and its maze of cobblestone streets. Listen to melancholy Fado in traditional restaurants, explore the São Jorge Castle and sip local green wine in old-world bars.

Small but mighty, this bold home in the Graça district has some of Lisbon's most iconic landmarks within walking distance. The National Pantheon, Sé Cathedral and São Jorge Castle lie minutes away, and Feira da Ladra, the famous flea market, operates close by. Although the apartment is compact, it has enough room for a small family, and there's a balcony – with fantastic city views, no less – where you can enjoy alfresco breakfasts or late-night drinks. You also have all of Lisbon at your feet, but it's worth mentioning it's a steep walk back up to the home, plus another flight of steps to reach the first floor – luckily, there's a tram stop nearby.

Getting lost in Mouraria's winding streets is a trip into the past, and part of the neighbourhood's authentic appeal. The Azure Terrace is situated in a house typical for the neighbourhood, which means that the outside (in stark contrast to the home itself) is a bit scruffy. The Azure Terrace is a home with all the features we want to see in a Lisbon Plum home – a private terrace, cute rustic design with lots of modern features and plenty of natural light. The abundance of fado shown in the vicinity is just a bonus.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Graça, away from the hordes of tourists in Baixa and the Bairro Alto, you'll find this comfortable apartment. If you're keen to experience a more authentic side to Lisbon and immerse yourself in the city's unique charms, then it's the ideal place to call home during your stay. 

The whole building’s been recently renovated, giving it a fresh and clean feel. Inside the apartment itself, there's a tranquil ambiance thanks to the blue and cream colour scheme, reminding you that the water's edge isn't too far away. The open-plan setup makes it easy to chat with your guests while you cook, before serving up your culinary creations at the handsome wooden table. And there's even a little balcony, so you can breathe in some fresh air as you enjoy a nightcap at the end of a long day. 

From here, you're in the perfect position to roam Graça's winding streets, discovering hidden gems like quaint port bars and artisanal boutiques. This beautiful apartment sits atop the highest of the seven hills of Lisbon, overlooking the sea of red-tiled roofs, in the historical neighbourhood of Graça. You're surrounded by an area steeped in history, starting right at home in this apartment, which was built back in 1920. 

Cloaked in rich tapestry and quirky decor, this home has an undeniable air of splendour. We particularly love the regal piano, calling you for late-night sing-along sessions. But when you step into the kitchen, you'll see how homely and inviting this apartment is, with its colourful tiles and huge dining table fit for family dinners of laughs, drinks, and old stories. It's one that's built to be cooked in, and in this beautiful, well-equipped kitchen, you'll be glad to do so. It also gives you a sneak peek of the jaw-dropping beauty that's outside, the pièce de résistance of this home – the balcony. 

You can step right out onto the balcony from the kitchen and living room, and there's even a smaller one that can be accessed from both bedrooms. From the main balcony, you're treated to one of the best views in all of Lisbon, it's even good enough to rival the nearby Senhora do Monte viewpoint. You'll love spending lazy mornings sipping on coffee, looking out at the view, and feeling the glow of the morning sun on your face, before heading out to explore Lisbon. 

You're steps away from the historic 28 tram, which famously takes passengers to all of Lisbon's most iconic and beautiful neighbourhoods. Alfama, the cathedral, Baixa, all the way to Campo Ourique. How can you say no to a view like that? With sweeping vistas across the Tagus River, this contemporary penthouse is a one-of-a-kind getaway right on Lisbon's riverfront. Pull up a chair, open a bottle of Vinho Verde and admire the scenery from the porthole-style windows. But if that's not enough, you can take in the panoramic views of the city – including the National Pantheon – from the communal rooftop terrace. Back inside, the modern design is sleek and stylish, with lots of natural light and cosy spots to unwind. When you feel like cooking, the glossy kitchen has everything you need to rustle up a meal and the living room's fireplace is perfect for chilly evenings. And we loved the welcome basket on arrival, filled with a bottle of white wine, fresh fruit and delicious Portuguese custard tarts. Location-wise, you're a little outside the bustling city centre, but it's still an excellent spot to base yourself. Restaurants and museums are just a stone's throw away, while Castelo de S. Jorge is twenty minutes on foot. But with Santa Apolónia Station a three-minute walk away, getting around the rest of the city is a breeze – you can be in Praça do Comércio in five minutes, flat.

Port Side

Just steps away from one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints over the city, on the top of the highest of Lisbon's seven hills, this beautiful three-bedroom apartment is the perfect package for a family or group of friends looking to experience the best of the city away from the flocks of tourists in Alfama and Baixa. 

Of course, those areas attract visitors for a reason, and you're well within a ten-to-twenty-five minute walk of most of the city's headline attractions, including Sé de Lisboa, Praça do Comercio and Convento do Carmo. However, for an authentic taste of Lisbon, there are plenty of classic cafes and local restaurants closer to home that will charge you a lot less by dint of not being in the centre.

Once you're inside the apartment, you'll be greeted by a stunning open-plan space with a bench seating area, a six-seater dining table and a sleek wooden kitchen. A polished concrete floor only adds to the contemporary aesthetic, while the balcony offers a partial panorama over the city. Elsewhere, three individually decorated bedrooms (including one en-suite) provide serene surroundings to unwind at the end of a busy day.


Seven Hills

From the red brick facade of the 19th-century bullring of Campo Pequeno, it’s hard to believe that just an eight-minute walk would take you to such a deluxe, modern apartment. In the north of the city, slightly off the tourist track, you’ll also find other lesser-known charms such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Garden – a sculpture park and museum – twelve minutes away. But with the historic centre less than twenty minutes away by metro, you're not exactly missing out on much.

After exploring the delights of Lisbon (and feeling full of pastéis de nata) arriving home to this spacious apartment is a dream. The grand living space features animal skin rugs and mid-century seating along with a modern, perspex coffee table. This mixture of eras and styles creates a sophisticated space where you can relax with a glass of douro on the sofa, or perch on the balcony with a vinho verde.

Draw yourself away from the views of the vibrant, pink of the neighbouring buildings, and head in to freshen up in Portuguese white marble bathrooms. And for a final flourish, the dining space is ready to host elegant dinner parties – why not try cooking bacalhau à Brás to really set the scene?

Located in the Graça neighbourhood of Lisbon, this spot offers views across the Tagus River and Lisbon's National Pantheon. Just a four-minute walk from the nearest supermarket and Portuguese bakery, the balcony terrace makes an idyllic little spot to sit with your morning coffee and pastries overlooking the city's rooftops. However, it's worth noting that the kitchen is small, and its compact layout makes it difficult to cook more substantial meals. Conveniently, the bedrooms feature air conditioning, although we think the fourth bedroom (with a double sofa bed) is better suited to one guest rather than two. 




The Watercolour Effect

Boasting a lively, multicultural atmosphere and plenty of parks, art galleries and eateries, Anjos is widely considered to be the trendiest neighbourhood in Lisbon. It’s also very well-connected, just fifteen minutes from the historic centre by public transport yet tucked away from the tourist hustle and bustle. You’ll find this stylish home here, nestled amidst pastel-hued Pombaline architecture and providing the perfect base for those seeking an authentic slice of the city.  

Inside, it’s a timeless canvas of high ceilings, hardwood floors and floor-to-ceiling French windows, ushering in heaps of natural light. Though compact, the interior is exquisitely renovated and offers all the bells and whistles for a comfortable stay, including a modern kitchen and a cosy mezzanine bedroom. However, the real highlight is undoubtedly the little balcony. Drenched in sunlight and furnished with a table and chairs, it's a lovely spot for alfresco breakfasts in the sun. Spend mornings roosted here, sipping coffee amidst the terracotta-tiled rooftops before a stroll through Eduardo VII Park, just seventeen minutes away on foot.

Bom Bocado

In the hilly old streets of Lisbon’s Alfama neighbourhood, you’ve got viewpoints and ancient sights at every turn. From your doorstep, it’s a fifteen-minute walk to the ancient fortification of Castelo S. Jorge, overlooking the orange rooftops of Old Lisbon. A little closer to home, you can explore the trinkets and artworks of Mercado de Santa Clara, a vintage market five minutes’ walk away. Of course, this close to the centre, the streets around you are packed with restaurants, bars and bakeries to fuel your days.

Inside, fawn walls are livened up with bold floral artworks and pops of lipstick-red thanks to the plush dining chairs. The kitchen is a soothing space of lightwood and white, with everything you need for self-catering. Perhaps serve meals at the table in the conservatory-style covered courtyard where a roof of glass lets the natural light stream in.

Floral Daydream

Beautifully decorated and centrally located, this Lisbon apartment has a lot to offer. It’s great for remote workers, with a dedicated office that’s separate from the living and sleeping areas. The well-equipped kitchen and cosy decor also make this a wonderful choice for a long-term stay – you can even bring your pet. The balcony is a lovely touch, too. The views are slightly blocked by a tree, but you can always take in the quintessential Lisbon street views from the living area’s Juliet balcony. In terms of location, Avenida Liberdade and its shops, restaurants, and cafes, is close to your base in Santo António, and a stroll through Parque Eduardo VII is a must.

Le Problème

Carefully laid out, welcoming, and beautifully furnished with natural materials, this charming ground-floor apartment made us feel right at home the minute we walked up to the facade of this typical Lisbon home. However, the design really shines here, and a lot of thought has gone into making the most of the small square footage. The original Pombalino partition wall in the kitchen adds character to the modern interior, creating a tasteful separation that doesn't make the room feel small – meanwhile, the bedroom packs in plenty of built-in storage. This bright apartment with its high ceilings, solid wood floors and pops of turquoise feels just like home. You’ll start your mornings at the dining table, washing down sweet Portuguese pastries with an espresso or two, before watching the bustle of Restauradores Square from your Juliet balcony. Fall back onto the sofa and nestle among the plump cushions with a good book until you feel ready to explore your surroundings. 

Begin with a trip to the Carmo Convent, just a short walk away, then make your way down to Rua Augusta for a spot of shopping. Watch the boats pootle along the Tagus River from Praça do Comércio or mosey over to Alfama for its rabbit warren of becos lined with no-nonsense eateries. Grab a table at the Portas do Sol viewpoint come sunset for glorious pastel skies above shambling terracotta rooftops.

This apartment might be modern, but the view is all old-world Lisbon. Inside, the living room feels like a 60s entertainer’s paradise, with velvet sofas, gallery-white walls and curious sculptures lining the room. Slide open the wall of glass and step out onto the terrace which has a view of modern Lisbon in one direction, and the orange roofs and townhouses of old in the other. The kitchen continues the charming retro theme, where lipstick red dining chairs offer space for the whole group. The master bedroom feels super plush with a purple velvet feature headboard, while the twin room is a cheerful shade of sunflower-yellow. We love the little nod to Portuguese tradition in the azelujo tiles in the family bathroom. This place is in the modern neighbourhood of Saldanha, a haven of sleek shopping streets and ultra-modern coffee shops. A twenty-minute stroll sees you in the winding, cobbled streets of Alfama, crowned with a castle, or the grand streets of Baixa packed with local restaurants and bars.

Start mornings here with coffee while basking in the Lisbon sun or watch the sunset over the rooftops over a glass of wine. The two bedrooms, meanwhile, are relaxing retreats you’ll relish falling asleep in – we’re particularly fond of the master bedroom’s canopy bed and the second bedroom's sunny desk space. With an additional office space with access to the master bedroom and terrace, you’ve got everything you need for a comfortable, relaxing stay whether you’re here for business or pleasure. Outside of your home, you’ve got plenty to see and do, including taking strolls through Parque Eduardo VII (a fifteen-minute walk), shopping along Avenida da Liberdade (also a fifteen-minute walk) and discovering the historic beauty of the Alfama district, thirty minutes away on foot.

Sun Stripes

At the top of the Avenida de Liberdade, Parque Eduardo VII is a gorgeous, green beacon of the Santo Antonio district. And with the annual Lisbon Book Fair taking place here every August, this cultural hub doesn’t just offer lush lawns and perfect views of the Tagus. Eight minutes away on foot, this apartment (like the nearby park) is yet another example of a serene oasis in the middle of this vibrant city.

Without any typical Portuguese features, this home is in a world of its own. The host’s Saharan-influenced decorations create a relaxing atmosphere that transports you into nature. We love the cacti alongside wicker furnishings and rugged, handmade tapestries on the walls. Then ornate hanging lamps bring a desert vibe to the dining area, where the entire space is complemented perfectly by a sandy colour palette.

Kick back on the sofa and put the record player on while you settle into your new surroundings. As music softly plays, you might find yourself gazing at the geometric, monochrome artworks on display. Or when you need to ground yourself back in reality, take a look into the four arched mirrors – your reflection would look even better with a glass of douro in hand.

Four Arches

Located in the multicultural area of Martim Moniz, in vibrant downtown Lisbon – this modern apartment has a great address. The metro and iconic Tram 28 station are close by so it’s easy to explore this wonderful city. Several of Lisbon's main attractions are nearby too, including the historic Castelo de S. Jorge. The apartment itself is housed in a characterful blue-hued building, and unusually for an older building, it has a lift. Inside, you’ll find elegant light-filled interiors and several balconies to enjoy the views over Lisbon’s rooftops and beyond.

Although this home was built with functionality in mind, we found plenty to love about The Writer's Corne beyond its on-point location in Lisbon. Nestled in one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in Lisbon, Mouraria's narrow and colourful streets will show you a different side of the capital. Minimal interiors, soft furnishings and a laid-back design aesthetic give way to lots of natural light flooding through the space.  At the edge of the dining area, there's a great little spot with a chair and desk, flooded with light – perfect for writing your travel memoir or remote working. With the master bedroom featuring its own en-suite bathroom, leaving the main bathroom for the other guests - this home truly is the perfect spot for a small group of friends who want to lap up Lisbon with pure ease and comfort. For days of downtime and relaxation, make the most of the resident-only terrace and infinity pool that offers a breathtaking view of the historic São Jorge Castle. Head to the stunning Jardim da Cerca da Graça park, only a four-minute walk away for a coffee with some fresh air, before weaving in and out of the quaint streets of Mouraria or hopping on the tramway to venture further afield.

With unobstructed views of Alfama, Lisbon's charismatic medieval neighbourhood, this apartment will place you in the best location to explore the city's rich history. It's next to the Sé de Lisboa cathedral, so you won't have to walk far to see your first attraction. You're also no more than a five-minute walk to Baixa – the historical and geographical heart of the city – where you'll discover magnificent plazas, grand avenues and impressive Pombaline architecture. A timeless, rustic home with original azulejo tilework, antique wood-panelled walls, a standalone bath, and two reading nooks in the living room. There's hardly a corner in this home that couldn't feature in an interiors magazine as a prime example of rustic chic. The classical decor immediately had us in the mood to seek out another must-see/hear Lisbon experience, fado. You've got a few choices within a ten-minute walk, but the elegant Casa da Linhares stood out to us. Where better to listen to this mysterious and melancholic music while you dine on typically Portuguese dishes than in the foundation of an earthquake-ruined palace?

Blending traditional Portuguese stylings with Southeast Asian design elements, this beautiful apartment in Lisbon’s central Marquês de Pombal neighbourhood is a treat for those looking for a comfortable, stylish stay. 
 
Golden hues and Indonesian ornaments come together in the main living space to create a calm setting for relaxing on the sofa – a glass of Portuguese wine in hand – or while gathering around the dining table for a celebratory meal. 

We love the natural light that shines through from the private courtyard patio accessed via the living area and main bedroom – the ideal spot to soak up some rays over morning coffee or an evening tipple. 
 
With a desk space on hand to cater to any business needs (as well as high-speed wi-fi) not to mention two wonderfully comfortable bedrooms dressed in a pared-back style to maximise sweet dreams, you’ve got everything you need for a blissful time. 
 
When it comes to exploring the local area, walk eighteen minutes to take a stroll through Parque Eduardo VII or treat yourself to some retail therapy on luxurious Avenida da Liberdade. You’re also a twenty-minute walk from the Miradouro da Penha de França viewing point with its panoramic views over the city, while the historic Alfama district is thirty minutes away by public transport.
