While you can find plenty of Bajan homes that are classical in style, there aren't too many that look to modernism for inspiration – that's what makes this striking home built by a local architect half a century ago and recently renovated all the more special.

Inside, you'll find high vaulted ceilings, spiral staircases and a soothing colour palette of bright whites and neutrals. The taste in furnishings is understated but chic, while the kitchen packed full of appliances and bathrooms both lie on the contemporary end of things.

This being the Caribbean, you're probably wondering what's happening outside. Well, the swimming pool in the middle of the gardens is sure to be appreciated during the summer months, as will the covered terrace complete with an alfresco dining table and barbecue ready for feasts.

In the local area, it'll take you all of two minutes on foot to reach the nearest beach and there are a couple of seafront restaurants to be discovered a little further on. For a wider choice, the island's capital – Bridgetown – is a twenty-minute-or-so drive.

Of course, the fun doesn’t end there because you’ve got the Platinum Coast at your fingertips. Speak to your host about arranging a private catamaran to take you along the shore or hop in a hire car and head into Holetown, where you’ll find a whole host of activities to keep you busy. Then, when you’ve had your fill of being out and about, come home to an authentic Caribbean meal prepared by your housekeeper Cheryl and dine alfresco as you listen to the crashing of the waves. Soak up the sun in absolute serenity at this wonderful townhouse, situated just a short stroll from the stunning Gibbes Beach, boasting powdery white sand and vibrant turquoise waters. It's surrounded by leafy palm trees, giving it a luxurious feel, and both bedrooms feature king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms so each guest feels like a VIP. Outside, there's a private roof terrace with sun loungers where you can catch the rays in peace, as well as a lovely shared pool for cooling off on hot days.

After the Groves

The phrase 'a stone's throw' is overused to the point of cliche, but for this villa, we'll make an exception – even those not terribly skilled at ball games would be able to lob a stone from this home's garden and hit the golden sands of Gibbes Beach. It really is that close.

This proximity to the Bajan coast also brings some rather calming views of the deep azure Caribbean Sea from the terrace, which benefits from a hot tub in case you want to catch the sunset from the comfort of bubbling waters. When you can manage to prise yourself away to give your living quarters a little closer inspection, you'll find some of the sleekest interior design to be seen anywhere on the island, with a wealth of natural light, clean lines and sleek surfaces throughout the rooms. Even the path to the entrance is made rather glamorous thanks to the addition of a lily pond running underneath.

Aside from the beach mere footsteps away, there's a great range of bars and restaurants running along the coastline in either direction, while Speightstown is just under 3km to the north. In the centre of the island, there's everything from golf courses and caves to botanical gardens to explore.
