Looking to the African desert for design inspiration, this Eixample apartment is dominated by earthy tones, natural materials and a few houseplants to add a burst of bright colour. Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

And when it comes to sightseeing, you don't have far to venture from your front door. The mighty Sagrada Familia is less than a quarter of an hour's walk, as is Parc de la Ciutadella in the opposite direction. You're especially well served by cafes and restaurants in the surrounding streets, too.

As far as homes in La Dreta de l'Eixample go, Caletre is a solid representation of the neighbourhood's architecture. Adorned with Modernist masterpieces, this part of Barcelona boasts great architecture on every corner and even the insides of an unassuming building like this one show some masterful craft. True, the street you'll be staying on is a little bit noisy, but we think that easy access to the cultural heart of town more than makes up for it.

It's clear that Gingerbread Cinder was designed by a professional – original vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls are a challenge to pull off, but these guys succeeded using minimal, high-quality furniture. This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. Located in Barcelona's 'it' neighbourhood El Born, you'll be within walking distance to the most famous sights, as well as local hidden gems.

Ronda Universitat is close to Plaça Catalunya and the Modernist sights of Eixample. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. And of course, if you do plan on venturing further afield in the city, you'll have bus stops and metro stations within less than five minutes reach too.

And you’re in the right neighbourhood to do so. The surrounding streets are archetypical of El Born - Barcelona’s ‘It’ neighbourhood, don’t you know. You’re only two minutes from heaps of trendy bars, coffee shops, and independent boutiques, as well as the imposing Basilica of Santa Maria Del Mar. Start your day with a spot of people watching at an outdoor café before heading on to one of the many sights located nearby. In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Located on Rambla Catalunya – Barcelona’s main shopping street – this apartment puts you in a prime position to explore the city’s many central bars, restaurants and boutiques. Given its spot in the heart of the action, you may need to contend with some street noise throughout your stay. But there’s plenty to appreciate inside, not least of all the pad’s private terrace – perfect for sunny breakfasts and evening glasses of wine. The decor isn’t the most inspiring here but a sizeable kitchen will be appreciated by chefs of the group. And the home’s locale close to Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and Plaça de Catalunya makes sightseeing a cinch.

You'll find it in the Eixample, tucked away in an elegant alleyway and offering a quiet refuge from the tourist hustle and bustle. Go shopping on Passeig de Gràcia, picnic in Ciutadella Park or marvel at the Sagrada Familia – all less than a twenty-minute stroll from your doorstep. 

Inside, spacious rooms flaunt high ceilings, large windows and stylish decor, while contemporary amenities promise a want-for-nothing stay. We especially love the balcony. Offering leafy views, this is the perfect place to sunbathe. It's right on the iconic Las Ramblas with its street performers, cafes, restaurants, markets and shops, and it's close to some more of Barcelona's most famous streets. Pedestrianised Calle Ferrán, which leads to the Barcelona City Hall and Plaça Reial, one of the city's most beautiful squares, are both nearby.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

In the evenings, the Port Vell's nearby promenade is filled with great restaurants and cafes, but if you walk the other way towards Poblenou, you won't be hungry either. This is a simple, luminous home, whose design is focused more on functionality than aesthetics. Still, the beautiful view and comfort make it a good option for a small family or a group of friends.

The architectural details in Cinder Symmetry are the most characterful part of this comfortable, bright home. Even though it's a rental property, the professional touch of an interior designer is evident in the selection of high-quality, minimalist furniture that doesn't clash with the busy walls. El Born is close to the Gothic Quarter, but has a completely different character –  think fewer tourist hotspots, and far more award-winning tapas bars.

This apartment offers a central location in Barcelona's Gothic Quarter and a practical pad to call your own. Just a short stroll from Barcelona Cathedral, Plaza Catalunya and the various shops, restaurants and bars, you really couldn't be better placed for exploring the city. The home's bedrooms vary in size, with limited space so you'll want to pack light. That said, we think the modern design, which benefits from traditional Catalan touches, makes for a lovely home to come back to after a busy day of sightseeing.

We really loved the chic and sociable breakfast bar in the kitchen area – it's the perfect spot for drinking your morning coffee while mapping out the day's itinerary. And with so much to see and do here, that may take some time.

If you don’t feel like cooking you’ll find eateries aplenty on your doorstep, and when you crave a spot of greenery, a visit to Ciutadella Park is a must for a fresh-air stroll.

After relaxing up here, head down to street level to check out the bars and restaurants of El Born. It's also a fifteen-minute walk to the beach and just over five to the Parc de la Ciutadella. But if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by all the incredible options, your friendly host is here to help. This flat's earthy tones and use of natural materials gives the space a warm and cosy vibe – and we adore every inch. Design-wise, the style here is rustic and a little bit bohemian, with rattan furniture, crochet artwork and swoon-worthy exposed brick walls. Everything you'll need is taken care of by your lovely hosts – the glossy kitchen has basic ingredients and cooking gear, the flatscreen comes equipped with Netflix and Apple TV services and the home manual is the most thorough one we've ever seen. And despite the shared lobby entrance being off a busy road, the apartment is sat at the back of the building and is relatively quiet, making it an excellent spot to relax, unwind and sprawl out after a busy day exploring. Speaking of, you'll find this flat in lively Eixample, a hub of cultural attractions, Gaudi architecture and high-end boutiques. The Cathedral of Barcelona is only a thirteen-minute walk, while Mercado de La Boqueria is ten minutes on foot – head there for fresh produce and local ingredients when you feel like cooking. Whether you want to grab brunch or stroll through a museum, people-watch in a square or dance the night away at a nightclub, this area is rife with adventure.

Staying in this part of town, you'll have easy access to lots of attractions, including Sagrada Familia and Arco de Triunfo.

Floating Cinder is only available for longer stays, and as such we think it has to be judged slightly differently to places that are destined for short trips. For example, we wouldn’t recommend using the sofa bed (though of course, it’s your choice), but equally, the extra space and the decent kitchen weigh heavier in our verdict. It’s really important to be aware that this listing represents several flats. They are all identical, and all in the same building, but we can’t say specifically which one you’ll get.

With a direct view of Gaudí's masterpiece Casa Batlló, this luxury home's location is an indisputable superpower. So, take a seat on the balcony with the complimentary bottle of cava and admire the vista here or from one of the beds. Spend all day unwinding in the open-plan living area or head downstairs for a quick workout in the communal gym before setting off to see what the city has to offer. From Barceloneta Beach to Plaça Reial, all the major attractions are within touching distance here, and we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to make the most of it. Soak up the gorgeous architecture of Barcelona Cathedral, head to Port Vell for a seafood feast with your fellow guests, or get a cab to Eixample where you’ll find plenty of places to dance the night away.

What’s better than waking up to a fresh cup of coffee? Waking up to coffee accompanied by views over one of the world’s most beautiful cities. At this sleek Barcelona bolthole, you’ll have the perfect backdrop for your morning pick-me-up, courtesy of your supreme vantage point from the sixth floor of a classic apartment block. While we love the airy free-flowing living and dining area, we think you’ll want to spend most of your time exploring: get your Gaudí architecture fix at Casa Batlló and La Pedrera (both within a five-minute stroll), stand in awe of the mammoth Plaça de Catalunya (ten minutes on foot), and hop on the metro at Passeig de Gràcia station – practically on your doorstep – to explore the rest of the city. Come dinner time, head out to the local tapas bars or whip up your own Catalan feast in the super spacious kitchen, before settling in for a movie or to catch up on your favourite shows on the digital TV.

Back up in this secluded apartment, which sits in a beautiful building, you'll find the tall ceilings and regal furniture will make you feel like royalty. Take lunch or dinner beneath the chandelier, and admire the works of art and views of the city. Watch the widescreen TV on the antique sofa and armchair, before climbing up to the mezzanine and retiring to bed. If you're staying up, head out to the Plaça de Catalunya just outside and enjoy the nightlife.

You’ll find this comfortable apartment on a leafy street in the Eixample district. Inside, there’s a laidback homespun charm with an eclectic selection of artwork and inviting soft furnishings. We loved the original brick and beam ceilings, as well as the double set of French doors in the living space, allowing for plenty of sunlight and a fresh Spanish breeze. Put together a charcuterie board in your kitchen and serve at the dining table or head out for tapas in your trendy locale. There’s a good spot three doors down, not to mention an endless array of bars, rustic tavernas and upscale restaurants within no more than a ten-minute saunter. The famous Passeig de Gracia with its high-end stores and feats of Modernist architecture is reached in less than ten minutes by foot. But should you fancy a break from the city heat, Barceloneta Beach is an eighteen-minute bus ride away.

We love the way the sunshine streams into this smart, modern home on the corner of one of Barcelona's most exclusive streets. Set in a typical period building, but with clean, contemporary styling, it's a fabulous choice if you want to be at the very heart of this bustling city. The spacious, open-layout living room has views of Carrer de la Diputació and the Rambla de Catalunya, and it's just steps from some of the best bars, cafes and restaurants in Barcelona.

If you're cooking at home, your apartment has a fully kitted-out kitchen with a dining table for six, and if you're working from home there's a little desk in the corner of the room. Both bedrooms are bright and uncluttered, and they'd suit a small family as well as a group of friends – with a dedicated bathroom for each room.

Café Carajillo

An outdoor terrace is always a nice addition to a home regardless of the location, but in a sunny city like Barcelona, it's even more welcome. This apartment's large alfresco space complete with a shady pergola and a couple of loungers is sure to be appreciated during the height of summer.

We're happy to report that this address is far from a one-trick pony, however. There's a wealth of space inside and bountiful amounts of natural light from the large windows, which is allowed to flow through the interior thanks to the clever use of internal glass panels. Although the design is largely pared-back, there are a few characterful touches that caught our eye, including the patterned tiled flooring in the kitchen and the hanging egg chair in one of the bedrooms.

What's perhaps most impressive is that this large home isn't on the outskirts of the city, but a mere three minutes' walk from Plaça de Catalunya and the start of La Rambla. With Eixample just to the north here as well, you're never going to be short of galleries, restaurants or historic attractions within strolling distance of the front door.

This home emanates a true sense of relaxation. With a playful interchange between the gentle white colours, rough wood, and exposed brick, Spectre has a lot to offer for lovers of rustic minimalism. Natural Light is a key element in creating a pleasant, warm atmosphere, aided by the semi-transparent curtains. Located in Eixample, the heart of the action in Barcelona, Spectre is surrounded by delicious cafes and restaurants – not to mention the numerous central sights, including the famous Casa Batlló.

We particularly loved the ornate ceiling mouldings in the living space. When you arrive, throw open the curtains and step out onto your Juliet balcony, feeling the warmth of Barcelona’s glorious sunshine as the breeze ripples through the quiet leafy streets below. It’s hard to believe this home is a ten-minute walk from the buzzing Plaza Catalunya, often regarded as Barcelona’s most central point. From here, you’ll find the Passeig de Gracia, with its emblematic Modernist buildings, high-end boutiques and upscale eateries. Better yet, the trendy El Born neighbourhood, famous for its artsy crowd and boho feel is only a fifteen-minute walk away.

This apartment makes a great base for an exciting city stay. Located right in the heart of Barcelona, it’s just a 100-metre stroll to Las Ramblas, while the beach is just 2 kilometres away.
