Its historic interiors have been beautifully restored and paired with modern amenities, including an orangery with a pool table, private bar, outdoor terraces, and five sumptuously appointed bedrooms. Five bikes are provided if you wish to cycle to the nearby 14th-century village, where you’ll find a wealth of history and culture. With 1.5 hectares of lush gardens to explore, this historic home is a departure from the ordinary and offers a truly unique stay.

Revelling in History 

It's not every day you find a place with two outdoor spaces in the heart of a city. This gem of a home is putting an end to the idea that being in the city centre automatically means forfeiting space. Here, location, style, comfort, and luxury have beautifully been combined to bring you a showstopper. 

There's a lot to love here, from the contemporary interior to the fantastic location, but the outdoor space takes the cake. There's something wonderful about waking up in the morning and stepping straight outside to feel the sun on your face, and here, you get that small but special treat from each bedroom. Invigorating fresh coffees in the sun are the perfect way to start the day. Whether you're on the rooftop terrace or the patio, you'll feel a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Bordeaux city centre, despite being close to all the action.

Exploring Bordeaux comes easy here. You're just a five-minute walk from the tram, which takes you all across the city. Or, you can take to the wine metropolis on foot – you're just 1.5km away from the historic centre. There, you can take a walk along the famous promenade which is lined by restaurants and bars, discover the city's museums, and spot some notable sights, like the 11th-century Bordeaux Cathedral. 

However you spend your day, you'll love coming home to your bright, welcoming home. Take the spiral stairs up to the rooftop terrace, armed with a bottle of local wine, to watch the sky envelop into hues of reds and oranges at dusk. When dinner rolls around, your kitchen is perfectly equipped for whipping up meals at home. But if you don't feel like cooking, there are several brilliant restaurants nearby, ready to welcome you. 

City Tropicale

You’ll find this wisteria-clad château on the banks of the River Lot, set within forty acres of woodland and landscaped gardens. The place boasts period furnishings, as well as a few modern luxuries – there’s a heated swimming pool, a cinema room, and a gym. When it comes to sleeping arrangements, the home is split into six separate suites – handy for families travelling together. After exploring the private grounds, why not go further afield? Nip across to the village of Penne-d'Agenais or hike over to the small fortified town of Pujols.

Riverbank Retreat

The epitome of countryside charm, this home is situated on a hilltop overlooking the picturesque landscape of Moncrabeau. From the private heated pool and covered terrace, you can admire views of rolling hills and sunflower fields – it’s an idyllic setting. You can even pick fruit from the trees and grapes from the vines for the meals you’ll prepare in the small summer kitchen. Children will love the trampoline and table tennis, while grown-ups will enjoy the 3-kilometre walk into the riverside village of Moncrabeau for the weekly market. 

Sunflower Bliss

Sit back, relax and drink in Bordeaux's unforgettable charm at this cosy hideaway in the heart of the historic city centre. Just a short walk from Rue Sainte Catherine, Place de la Bourse and Grosse Cloche, you'll be incredibly located for whatever tickles your fancy, be it sightseeing, shopping or sampling the region's most famous wines. 

A stroll along the Garonne River will get your day off to a great start, as will a delicious pastry from a local boulangerie. Following an alfresco lunch, discover the city's renowned museums in the afternoons while evenings call for dinner, drinks and a grand night at the Opéra National, also within walking distance.

If you prefer a laid-back approach to your travels, this third-floor apartment is just the ticket. Nestled in a stone building dating back to the 19th century, there's plenty of character to fall in love with here – we're talking exposed stone walls, wooden beams and typical Parisian-style windows with wrought-iron balconettes. 

Come home after a long day, kick off your shoes and unwind in style. Prepare your own take on classic French dishes in the kitchen – best served, of course, with a glass of Bourdeaux's dry red at the stylish island. A soak in the bathtub is the perfect way to end the day, or simply snuggle up with a book on the sofa before bed, instead. 

Decanter

Doze in the sunshine and let the scent of peonies, magnolias and roses drift over you on a gentle breeze. This idyllic Dordogne home is a haven, set in a valley of rolling countryside. When you’re not stretched out on a sun lounger, you’ll be swimming laps in the solar-heated salt-water pool, and listening to the fountain trickle softly in the background. Tuck into alfresco feasts on the terrace – there’s a barbecue and pizza oven to make cooking as easy as can be. When the sun has set, settle around the fire pit with a bottle of local wine, and sit out late spotting constellations in the clear sky above. 

The house itself is wonderful. The contemporary living space is the heart of the home, with high ceilings and plenty of light. There’s enough room for everyone to gather together here, though there are also peaceful corners for those quieter moments – we love the reading nook. 

In addition to its wonderful charm and beauty, this home is in an excellent location. Hop on bikes to cycle into the village for a coffee and a bite to eat in a cafe-bar, or to shop locally. The Friday morning market in nearby Ribérac is one of the best in the area – head there to pick up local produce for dinner. Aubeterre-sur-Donne, one of France’s prettiest villages, is just a short drive away. There’s so much to see and do here, you’ll want to return time and again. 


Peony Blushes

Once an ancient fortress, before becoming a palace in the seventeenth-century, Cypress Way is more than a beautiful holiday home. Set on twenty-five acres of private land, there's plenty to see and do in this beautiful part of France. The entire property is made up of the main house, as well as a guest house – making it possible for up to twenty-four people to stay here. Whether you want to celebrate a special occasion or simply live your best life, Cypress Way could offer a dreamy escape from your daily routines.

Cypress Way

Tucked away in the Cote de Bourg area just north of Bordeaux, this fairytale 19th-century chartreuse overlooks beautiful vineyards and the rolling landscape beyond. The seclusion makes this a tranquil getaway – especially when swimming in the private pool or enjoying the ample seating outside – but with this being an active vineyard, it's also a unique way to experience the French countryside. The interior, all rustic rafters and palatial furnishings, might not be everyone's cup of tea, but there's plenty of space and charm here. It is worth noting that there are only three bathrooms to share between fourteen guests. The country house is bold and full of character, and the pool table is a nice touch too.

Comte de Montagny

Hidden among ancient cedars and lush farmlands, this nineteenth-century home offers guests sumptuous levels of privacy, while still being within easy commuting distance from local amenities and opportunities for adventure. Boasting eight beautifully appointed bedrooms, ample entertainment, and alfresco dining opportunities, all within extensive, manicured grounds. This home is perfect not only for those looking to holiday in large groups, but also for those looking for the perfect backdrop for elegant affairs and weddings.

Featuring seventeenth-century stone fireplaces, picture galleries and a grand piano, as well as a games room, fenced tennis court, private pool and onsite ancient woodland, holiday photos will never look grander, while just a short ten-minute walk from the chateau medieval villages offer a wealth of bars, restaurants and shopping opportunities to satiate those retail needs.

We highly recommend a visit to the town of Moissac to soak in the atmosphere of lively weekend markets, and wonder at the breathtaking splendour of the Saint-Pierre Abbey and an extension of the Canal du Midi.

Château de fête

Tucked away in the lush countryside of the Dordogne, in a hamlet between the medieval towns of Monpazier and Beaumont du Périgord, sits this beautiful home. The renovated farmhouse and cottage date back to the 16th century, and have been restored with so much love and care. The character of the buildings has been cherished – they’ve just been brought into the 21st century so you’ll have everything you might need during your stay. 

You can look forward to original beams, terracotta tiles, and a centuries-old larder and stone basin. An enormous fireplace with a wood burner keeps things oh so cosy – there’s no finer place to curl up with a glass of wine on chilly evenings. 

This charming home sits in 2.5 acres of gardens, with the scent of lavender and rosemary carrying in the breeze. The beautiful stone exterior of the farmhouse is decorated with clambering wisteria, roses and jasmine. It’s like something from a children’s story – a real idyll. There are peaceful corners where you can sit and enjoy a moment of tranquillity, revelling in the views. 

In the morning, stroll through the gardens and pick fruit from the trees. Sit in the sunshine for a breakfast of fresh nectarines, cherries and figs. The heated salt-water swimming pool has been positioned to benefit from the most glorious views, so we’d be spending much of our time there. When you’ve dozed in the sunshine and are ready for more action, you might take to the pétanque court, or perhaps you’ll play boules, badminton, football, or table tennis. You can even practice archery – there’s no chance of getting bored here. 

The jewel in the glittering crown of this home is the summer kitchen. Originally a barn, the outdoor kitchen now boasts a barbecue and a shaded space for you to host get-togethers. Languid lunches turn into evenings spent under the stars in this pretty and atmospheric space. You’ll never want to leave.  


Jasmine On Stone

Enjoy good times and quality wine with this modern apartment as your comfortable base in Bordeaux. Located in the city's historical centre, the space mixes modernity with old-fashioned charm through a combination of classic and new home furnishings.
