Take a load off and unwind in Megève, surrounded by gorgeous alpine scenery. Boasting a game and cinema room, as well as a well-equipped gym and plentiful ski storage, this home is as practical as it is comfortable. The private spa offers the perfect place to relax after a day hitting the slopes of Mont Blanc – and hit the slopes you shall. There are multiple ski lifts within walking distance, as well as the charming village of Megève right on your doorstep.

Alpine Oasis

Right upstairs from a row of restaurants and cafes, this little home not only has a fantastic location going for it, but it also peers right out onto Old Port. Wake up early morning and open the window to let the fresh breeze in as you brew a coffee. With the beautiful aroma still lingering, get back in bed with a book and spend a lazy morning getting lost in a pirate novel. When you’re ready, head downstairs to any of the eateries for breakfast before setting off to explore the historic city centre. We recommend doing this by foot, so you can easily stop to take the perfect holiday photos, but if you want to hire a bike, La Rochelle is a great city for it. A slow stroll to the shops will allow you to really take in the Renaissance patrician houses and old half-timbered houses that stand shoulder to shoulder here. 

There’s an aquarium, bowling alley, and exhibitions to visit too, but we won’t argue if the waterfront is where you want to be. Return to the quay as you have a drink at one of the cafes or stop off to buy a pain au chocolat – or five – to take back to the apartment. After a refreshing shower, simply collapse into the plush sofa as you munch and read.

Portside

Nestled away in the peaceful village of Mesbrecourt-Richecourt, there are parts of this address that date back to 1670. There are other aspects, however, that are no more than a few years old thanks to a recent renovation. Together, this heritage and modernity combine to make for a home that's full of character.

One thing that's immediately noticeable is the bountiful amount of natural light the interior enjoys from the tall windows and glass doors, and this asset is put to especially good use in the stark white kitchen and dining room. In the neighbouring lounge, there's a loft-like feel to the design thanks to the exposed brickwork and metal staircase sourced from an old sugar factory.

We've done very well to get this far without mentioning the wonderful outdoor space here. On summer afternoons, there's plenty of seating out in the garden and games equipment to make the most of the heat, while the south-west-facing perspective means that it's a prime spot for catching the sunset, too.

In the local village, there's a shop and cafe that are reachable on foot, as well as walking and cycling routes through the north French countryside to embark upon. A little further afield, the medieval city of Laon is only 24km away and has more than enough historic architecture to appeal to history buffs.

Nothing Tastes as Sweet

With such quaint and historic surroundings, this 17th-century terraced brick apartment aims to keep things tranquil and to let Lille do the talking. Explore this medieval principality - that once encompassed parts of northern France, as well as Dutch and Belgian provinces - from your centrally-located home.

Its modern interior brings 21st-century ideals to this otherwise historic neighbourhood with a statement black kitchen, modernist white furnishings and bold accent walls. The open plan dining area is an idyllic spot to spend quick breakfasts with coffee and croissants you picked up from the boulangerie Au Fournil de Jade Abdelkader, just five minutes walk, as well as candlelit dinners made with your market haul selection from Halles de Wazemmes, a fourteen-minute drive or twenty minutes if you’re optioning for the metro. 

Explore the Flanders capital’s distinctive Baroque architecture, its old town, Vieux Lille, and the former coal-mining site which is now the contemporary, Musée du Louvre-Lens. For dinner, stop into Le Présentoir for their seasonal delights and natural wines - our pick is a seat at the banquette with the oxtail terrine. 

Lille Light

Set in over a hectare of forest, this beautiful Paley home makes getting back in touch with nature a pretty stately affair. Once you’re through the wrought-iron gates, drive up to the home and immerse yourself in the tranquillity from the moment you set foot on the grounds. Immediately surrounded by an exquisite garden, you’ll soon find yourself itching to explore the woodland beyond by taking one of the beautiful walks through the forest. 

Inside, manor-house elegance combined with countryside chic results in a cosy space that’s just palatial enough for you to daydream about living out your own Jane Austen novel, but without it feeling like a space where you can’t just as easily lounge around in an oversized jumper all day. 

Fontainebleau is around thirty minutes away and the chateau will make for a beautiful backdrop to a group photo when you’re there. Stop off for lunch before stocking up on supplies and returning home. 

Dine together under the chandelier in the dining room, play games spread out on the floor of the living room, walk the gardens together, and plan picnics in the woods. Carry cups of coffee outside after dark to enjoy as you make yourself comfortable on the lawn and gaze up at the stars. 

Symphony of Trees

This wooden house nestled in the most beautiful part of South-West France offers a rare treat – a stay in a tranquil and secluded countryside abode, with easy access to stunning sandy beaches, wild lakes, and hectares of pine forests. 

Boasting a modern and environmentally conscious design, the house will welcome you with its cheerful exterior, set against the vibrant green of the surrounding woods. You’ll have plenty of outdoor space to relax and enjoy the comfy garden furniture, perfect for organising alfresco meals under the stars. There is also a state-of-the-art wooden pool out here, ideal for taking refreshing dips on those hot summer afternoons.

The inside is no less impressive – we love the bright and airy living room, with gorgeous wood accents and a statement-making staircase leading up to the bedrooms. The light-filled modern kitchen will inspire you to create delicious feasts to be served either at the dining table or outside on the wooden patio.  For quiet evenings of French wine and movies, you couldn’t ask for a more cosy setup than the plush sofa nestled next to a warm fireplace, with the unbelievably high ceiling above. 

Get a good night’s rest in the comfy bedrooms and wake up refreshed and ready for a day of exploring – and there is a lot to see here. From the beautiful lake a twenty-minute walk away to the countless nature trails you can discover by bike. And of course, for surf and water sports enthusiasts there’s the world-famous Atlantic coast with miles of sandy beaches and the vibrant resort town of Mimizan Plage, a fifteen-minute drive away. 

In the Land of the Pines

Originally built as an old farmhouse, this beautiful home combines rustic charm with a light colour palette to create a space that feels both cosy and light, and certainly inviting enough for you to relax in. 

We can imagine lazy starts followed by freshly-brewed coffee at the dining table, right next to the statement fireplace. Unfortunately not in working order anymore, the design of the old hearth is still a beautiful focal point to the dining space. Scramble eggs in the minimal kitchen to enjoy alongside fresh croissants, cheese, and caffeine before getting ready for a day of exploration. 

Venture to Cadran Solaire – only minutes away by car – where you can hike the trails and explore the native foliage. In Nérac, about fifteen minutes away, you’ll find the night market and open-air cinema, but it’s also a great place to grab a bite to eat during the day. 

On those days where you find your itinerary completely clear, you’ll delight in the peace on offer at this home. Open the curved doors of the living room and read on the sofa, or head outside where you can walk the grounds until you find the perfect spot for an impromptu picnic. Enjoy sunset drinks on the terrace, barbecued dinners, and collapse onto the lawn every now and again for late-night stargazing.

Rustic on Green

Nestled in La Croix Valmer, this villa boasts a heated private pool and plenty of space for sunbathing. Daily cleaning and night security mean you won't need to worry about a thing during your stay, so you can focus on relaxing. Spread over a main house and a guest house, we think it's a great choice for families and friend groups travelling together. Sylvabelle Beach is within walking distance, but you'll want a car here for getting up to Saint Tropez with its restaurants and historic quarter.

The Green Vineyard

The views from this French home will blow you away. Whether you're swimming in the private pool or sipping champagne on the sunny terrace, you can admire the sweeping panoramas that span Hyères to the sea. Even inside, floor-to-ceiling windows put the scenery front and centre. But they don't do all the talking – we love the colourful, quirky style and attention to detail. Your host provides a range of extra-special add-on services – private chefs, boat trips to the Golden Isles, yoga classes, you name it – and the location is perfect for coastal activities up and down the French Riviera.

The Hazy Horizon

Resting quietly in the picturesque village of Gouaix, you’ll find this charming townhouse. Lovingly restored, it offers a comfortable place to stay on your French adventure, while still showcasing the original features that make this home so special. The grand spiral staircase and exposed stone wall are particular eye-catchers in the living area and the lightness of decor throughout make this a tranquil retreat truly befitting of its location in this peaceful village. There’s even a mezzanine office area should you need to catch up on work while you’re away, although it will be hard to focus when there’s so much to explore around you.

If you’re itching to get outdoors, the nearby National Nature Reserve of La Bassée is a must-see, where an abundance of fauna and flora await. For those who love a little history, a visit to the mediaeval city of Provins, a Unesco World Heritage Site, promises a memorable day out. Further afield, Paris is only an hour away, should you fancy a visit to the city of love. 

Closer to home, there are some fantastic hikes from and near Gouaix. After expending some energy, return to your cosy retreat, uncork a bottle of fabulous French wine, and relax with loved ones as you reminisce over the day.

Truly Tranquil

Set amidst lavender fields and the rolling hills of the southern French countryside, wake up to the freshly fragranced air surrounding this magnificent setting in Provence. Ideally located in the heart of authentic Luberon, this Provincial country home is a dream come true for those seeking a true taste of rural France at its best. With easy country walks available from your front door and short driving distance to the nearby market towns, and an abundance of old French charm, a break here is like stepping into a carefully curated Pinterest board on the beauty of Provence. 

Smell the lavender and feel the sun on your skin as you wander around the quintessentially Mediterranean gardens with a view overlooking the valley of the Luberon park and the Mourre Nègre. Down the cobbled stone steps, you'll find a hidden terrace that features a heated infinity swimming pool, lounge terrace and breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape. 

Inside, the traditional country style 17th-century maison features seven large bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom making it an ideal spot for large families or groups of friends. The open living areas present plenty of space to enjoy as a group – as you'll find two kitchens, a piano, a ping pong table, petanque and board games. 

For those travelling with children, the house also has a dormitory-style bedroom which allows up to eight children to spend unforgettable moments together in one large suite with its own bathroom and double shower.

Although the home is in the middle of the countryside and completely tranquil, all supermarkets and shops are located within just fifteen minutes from the town of Apt, where you'll find several spots to pick up the shopping (including Intermarché, Leclerc, Auchan and LIDL) as well as local stores offering regional fare at the independent butcher's, fruit and vegetables store and bakery. 


Lavender Bloom

Located in a small Dordogne village, this Château was originally built in the sixteenth century, but then in the mid-1800s, it was unusually split into five apartments. This home commands the right-wing of the Château and it has been lovingly restored while retaining much of its original character with four-metre high ceilings, exposed beams, antique mirrors, and wood panelling in the elegant salon decorated with rich tapestries, rugs and stunning Baccarat crystal chandeliers. 

Why not start your mornings here with croissants for breakfast at the bistro table in your private south-facing garden as you listen to the sound of church bells? Then, journey to the river Dordogne – reachable in eight minutes by car – and canoe up the waters to enjoy some beautiful countryside views. 

Wine lovers are in a perfect location here with vineyards – some of which are biodynamic – surrounding the village. Tours and tastings are, of course, on offer with three wine-tasting cellars which can be reached in as little as five minutes on foot. In the evening we would love to enjoy the bottle of wine from our welcome hamper or our favourite pick from a wine tasting, sipped alfresco in our private garden. 

For dinner, you could wander to one of a handful of local restaurants in the village – one of which even has a pool. While in the summer, a pop-up pizzeria appears weekly. Or, indulge in the full relaxing holiday experience and hand over the reins to a chef while you unwind in regal elegance in the home’s salon. This magnificent and historic apartment is a truly wonderful base from which to explore this beautiful part of Southern France.
