It may be a rural base, but the charming centre of Oxford is a fifteen-minute drive away. Stanton St John has everything you need with a village shop and farm shop within a five-minute walk. Plus, meandering country walks are right on your doorstep. The home itself has been beautifully designed, with honey-hued stonework fitting in with the rustic aesthetic and a wooden pergola dappled with climbing plants shading the outdoor seating area. Just next to this there’s a big lawn which creates the back garden. Glass folding doors open up to blend indoors with outdoors so you can listen to the hum of bees and smell the flowering lavender from the breakfast table. There’s a bit of magic at this home. It’s a windmill tower that dates back to the 1700s and has been carefully renovated into a fabulous romantic escape for two. You’ll enter the windmill via an oak door located on a grass roof and from there make your way up a stone walled stairwell to the second floor bedroom suite. Next floor up is a kitchen with everything you need to rustle up some tasty food. At the top of the tower, there's a lounge with panoramic views across three counties. When you’re not admiring the views or enjoying a drink outside, you might drive into Oxford or to nearby Blenheim Palace.

There’s parking here, so you can easily drive into the city, or hop on the bus just outside the apartment. The patio may not be the most inspired, though it’s a nice option for morning coffee. Similarly, the kitchen is a little dated, but it’s well-equipped for nights you feel like eating in. That said, you’ll find Headington's local pubs and cafes within walking distance.

Pretend you're an Oxford don for the weekend at this spectacular garden-level Victorian home in the heart of the world-famous university city. This apartment is steeped in history and has some gorgeous original features, including spectacular bay windows in the living room, an ornate stone fireplace and buffed wooden floors. But the styling is undoubtedly modern here, with an almost Scandinavian touch. We love the muted colours - creams, eggshell and dove grey - with the odd pop of colour in the bedrooms (check out the super-soft orange bedding) and geometric print furnishings in the living room. We can imagine a spectacular dinner party held at the industrial-style dining table, with its wooden top and steel legs, before retiring in the living room to admire the black and white Jackson Pollack-style artwork over a glass of wine. This home is in Summertown, Oxford's most bohemian neighbourhood, and well-known for its organic wine bars, buzzy restaurants and independent shops. The city's main sights - the university, cathedral and punting on the river - are all a 10-minute walk away.

Nestled in Oxford’s illustrious city centre stands this grand 17th-century home. As a Grade II Star-Listed building, every inch of the abode exudes luxury. Despite the rich tapestry and ornate finishes, this home is packed with mod-cons that make your stay extra special. 

From starting off your day in the rainfall shower to sinking into the Vispring elite mattresses, you’ll feel pampered from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep. Two of the bedrooms even get a view of the famed Oxford Castle – you get the full royal treatment here. The other two get an equally lovely view of the shared courtyard – you’ll love nipping outside in the mornings, savouring a freshly brewed coffee while catching up on the evening’s news.

Although this characterful home gives hints of its long history, you wouldn’t know it from the super-sleek, contemporary kitchen. It’s been kitted out to suit a modern preference, tempting even the most reluctant of chefs. But if you’re sticking to your word and not cooking during your getaway, a private chef can take care of that for you.

Grand Beginnings

On the outskirts of the picturesque village of Cuddington, this two-storey home had us smitten. While unassuming on the outside, it is well-equipped to be your home-from-home whatever the weather, with indoor and outdoor spaces for dining – if you're not heading to the village pub, that is. The skylights in the bathroom and bedroom are nice touches, and we love that there's a view from upstairs. That said, guests on the sofa bed downstairs might feel the area is a little cramped – we think the home is better for families or a couple.

Serenity in Cuddington

This home is just as charming as the idyllic town in which it sits. The interior eschews minimalism for full-on floral patterns, characterful pieces of botanical artwork and vintage-inspired furnishings — can you honestly say you weren't happy to see that four-poster bed?

While the kitchen may be on the smaller side and lacks a hob, oven or cooking facilities, fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants in Woodstock, from a brasserie to less formal pubs. In addition, Blenheim Palace and its surrounding parkland can be entered in three mintues' walk from your front door. Further afield, the walking routes and viewpoints of the Cotswolds AONB can be reached easily in the car.

We dare you to find an apartment in Oxford with a more central location than this, folks. With the mighty castle right around the corner and the famous Christ Church College and its riverside meadow just a seven-minute jaunt away, it's all going on here. Look even closer, and you'll find high-end bars, gourmet restaurants, and cosy cafes on your doorstep. Or if you're in the mood to shop, the Westgate Shopping Centre is just one minute away across the road. Now, how's that for a location? 

Back at home, there's a distinct Scandi feel about the modern apartment. Guests rave about how pristine and fresh the interiors are, and we'd agree. Crash out on the highly-sinkable sofas after days gallivanting about Oxford, and if you're in town on business, there's a handy desk to keep on top of emails.

But our favourite spot has to be the two balconies – an all-too-rare treat in central Oxford where outdoor space is scarce. It's an ideal place to watch the hustle and bustle with a glass of wine and snack on the goodies from the welcome hamper that your host leaves you. It would be rude not to.

Dating back to the 1800s, this Grade II-listed barn is now a comfortable home-from-home. Underfloor heating keeps toes warm for visits during the cooler months, and the indoor climbing wall and gym equipment will keep active types occupied. When the sun does shine, there’s a dining table and chairs on the decking for alfresco lunches. The Chiltern Hills are on the doorstep, and the Black Lion pub is a fifteen-minute walk away. If you’d like to swap the countryside for some hustle and bustle, High Wycombe is reached in less than twenty minutes by car.

This charming, tasteful apartment is located in Kidlington, a large Oxfordshire village just 5 miles north of Oxford. You’ll be close to the Begbroke Science Park and will have easy access to the Oxfordshire countryside, as well as the museums, restaurants, and shops of Oxford. The south Oxford canal is less than a mile away, with great pubs along the route. Ideal for short- or long-term stays, this apartment is comfortable and practical. There’s even a private courtyard to enjoy in warm weather.

Standing tall on opposite sides of a stately courtyard, these two 17th-century homes exemplify palatial elegance. With one housing four guests and the other housing eight, this is perfect for family reunions or big groups looking to explore all that Oxford offers. 

After late-morning lie-in’s in the beautiful suites – think chandeliers, panelled walls, and corniced ceilings – you can come together in the courtyard to sit down for an alfresco breakfast. 

Venture out into Oxford, starting with the Castle on the opposite street before walking to the iconic university and stopping off at museums, cafes and shops. Evenings can be spent dining out at one of the many surrounding restaurants or seeing a show at the theatre.

This beautiful award winning cottage has romantic country getaway written all over it. There are lots of cute touches in the design, like the vintage suitcase repurposed as a coffee table and the gold birds on the wall, but what's perhaps most impressive is the sheer amount of space at your disposal. The long kitchen has plenty of surface space for rustling up a hearty supper, while the shower cabin is easily big enough for two. Out the front door, there are plenty of spaces to sit outside during mild spring mornings, including an enclosed private garden which is dog friendly (the property accepts dogs). There are stunning views overlooking The Ridgeway National Trail from the cottage and you can follow this historic route through the Chiltern chalk hills. The glorious city of Oxford is just thirty-five minutes away by car and there are plenty of National Trust properties like Waddesdon and Hughenden Manor to visit close by.

Perfect for large families or groups of friends looking for a rural escape, this is a fun-filled countryside haven. Comprising six acres of luxury fittings, high-class amenities and verdant scenery – you could spend days here and never wish to leave.

The active types – usually the kids – are entertained by the dart board or the table tennis in the games room. Away from the splendour of your pastoral palace, there is a golf course, horse riding and cycling routes in the nearby area. 

For those of you that prefer a more relaxing break, fishing spots are an idyllic place to while away the hours. The interior benefits from large sash windows that let in oodles of natural light, while there's a distinct mid-century inspiration with the furnishings — our favourite being the Art Deco sideboard on which the Smart TV sits. The bedrooms are both large and finished in a relaxing palette of muted greys, while the master bathroom is a sleek treat, especially the tub after a long day exploring all that Oxfordshire has to offer. The sprawling grounds and stately home of Blenheim Park can be reached in just three minutes on foot, while the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is right on your doorstep and isn't short of breathtaking hiking routes to follow.
