Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer.

With two outdoor terraces, you can enjoy your breakfast alfresco while the horses roam around you, or fire up the barbecue for a dinner under the stars. Factor in the DVDs, books and board games on hand and there’s plenty to keep you entertained on rainy days – but with so much nature to explore, we recommend grabbing your wellies and venturing out into the great outdoors. Walk around your home to discover the secret walking trails through the woods and ask your host to show you the megalithic Rocking Stone nearby. Visit Robin Hood’s Stride (eleven minutes by car or an hour’s walk), take a dip in the swimming hole at Youlgreave (an eight-minute drive) and spend an afternoon at stately Chatsworth House, fifteen minutes away by car.

Located in the heart of the town, you'll be close to all the action, but still have your own private space to relax in. The apartment features a mix of antique and contemporary decor, creating a unique and cozy atmosphere. The spacious living room is the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring, and the fully-equipped kitchen is ideal for whipping up a home-cooked meal. Bakewell Bliss

The medieval town of Shrewsbury is the truly historic heart of Shropshire, with nearly 700 listed buildings in a town of just over 70,000 people. With such a striking skyline and such fine examples of 15th-century construction techniques, it’s no surprise that your home is another architectural marvel. This terraced house has been completely refurbished in a superbly modern fashion. Our favourite spot has to be the bright and airy open-plan living space. With its wonderful bi-folding doors, this clever design essentially removes the wall between your home and your south-facing courtyard garden (perfect for the unpredictable English weather). Mid-century furniture looks stylish in the lounge, while the roll-top tub up in the master en-suite brings a vintage edge to proceedings. For more on local history, take a stroll through town to reach Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery in just eighteen minutes. Another fantastic walk is along the River Severn. Your home is just three minutes from the riverbank, from where you can follow it all the way across the border to Wales. It’s definitely one for experienced hikers with a strong pair of boots though, at just over ten miles away.

Town of Flowers

Originally an 18th-century multi-purpose garden building, this lovely getaway is located within a 1000-acre estate on the border of Shropshire and Staffordshire. It boasts some great features, such as an orangery, ideal for enjoying your morning cups of tea, as well as an open fireplace for those colder evenings. Being on an estate with regular events throughout the year may mean you're lacking a bit of privacy, but on the flip side, you get to enjoy the beautiful parkland, on-site brasserie, children's adventure playground, and miniature railway.

A Common English Song

A cosy getaway for two, this charming cottage is packed with character and has idyllic views of the Peak District to match. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking – imagine lush green fields, grazing cattle and tree-dotted hills, all spread out before you – and the best place to admire the rolling countryside is the garden. Sharing a bottle of wine as the sun goes down will become your evening ritual – with views like that, it'll be hard to tear yourself away. There's also an excellent outlook from the bedroom, which you'll wake up to daily.

Make yourself comfortable on the squishy sofa following a long day wandering the Peaks and snuggle up for a movie night – you can sign in to your Netflix, Prime and Disney+ accounts, so there are plenty of films to choose from. When you grow peckish, the kitchen is well-stocked and well-suited to rustling up delicious meals, but if you don't fancy cooking, Foolow's village pub is only a twelve-minute stroll away and serves excellent food and refreshing local ales.

And speaking of exploring, there's a network of public footpaths on your doorstep – simply lace up your walking shoes, head out the front door and the Peak District is yours to ramble and roam. Also close by is Bakewell, home to an array of shops, restaurants and a weekly Monday market – it’s just fifteen minutes by car.

Your morning coffee comes with a view here, as many bedrooms step directly out onto the terrace, while the large alfresco dining area will be popular when the sun's out. Indoors, the games room and indoor swimming pool will compete for your attention during the day, and there's even a cosy cave bar for nightcaps. And although you'll feel far removed from the city here, you're just a few miles from several local pubs, and Wrexham and Chester are a quick drive if you want to explore.
