If you like the idea of going eco-friendly for a while but don't want to completely give up on comforts, this cosy barn powered by renewable energy could just be a happy compromise. 

The renovated cob and stone property sits within six acres of idyllic riverside woodland and is built out of natural materials, including oak, lime, cob, pigmented clay plaster and locally sourced slate. Inside, there are a few rustic features, such as the exposed stonework and wood-burning fireplace, but otherwise, it's undeniably contemporary thanks to the conservatory, sleek kitchen and pristine bathrooms. The fact that it's powered by a wind turbine and a heat pump is pretty impressive, too.

Given the peace and tranquillity of the surrounding grounds, you'll be happy to hear that there's a natural swimming pool close to the home — shared only with the host, who lives on the site, and one other barn — as well as a barbecue and some spots for an alfresco feast. 

Although it feels like you're in splendid isolation at this address, you can head back to civilisation pretty swiftly if you wish. The town of Truro takes a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, while Perranporth Beach on the north and south Cornish coastlines can be reached in just under twenty-five.

We loved this home’s wooden deck – with stunning sea views, a dining table, barbecue, two loungers and Adirondacks facing the ocean, it’s fully equipped for time well-spent outside. Factor in that you’re less than a ten-minute walk from the beach and you have a real winner. Meander down the South West Coast Path to laidback Sennen Cove with its stretch of golden sand and tropical-blue water. Here Cornish fishermen brush shoulders with tousle-haired surfers. We recommend renting a board and catching a wave – there are two highly-rated surf schools in the area. When you return home, hit the outdoor shower and set your wetsuits to dry in the warm utility room before heading inside, where you’ll find it’s just as lovely as its surroundings – smart and minimal with touches of nautical chic. We especially love the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area. Kick back on the sofas and play a board game or puzzle all together. Then gather around the light wood table for a feast before retiring to the bedrooms for some restful sleep, knowing there’s another beautiful seaside morning waiting for you when you awake.

If you love the thought of drifting to sleep while gazing up at the stars, this dreamy cabin could be the holiday home for you. The cabin is tucked away in a lush garden in a romantic setting that will make you instantly forget any of the worries of day-to-day life. It’s a studio-style cabin with one wall entirely made of glass, blending the interior and exterior. A skylight above the bed means you’ll go to sleep each night staring straight up at the stars. 

The cabin is based just outside of Launceston in Cornwall, close to the border of Devon. It’s brilliantly located for outdoorsy adventures, whether you’re keen on surfing or prefer to explore the countryside on foot. Dartmoor National Park is twenty-seven minutes away by car, with its wealth of wonderful hikes and cycling trails. You might take a day-trip to St Isaac to paddle in the sea and eat fish and chips and ice cream at the shore – it takes forty-three minutes to drive there, and it’s well worth the trip. 

After a day of exploring Cornwall and its gems, you can look forward to sipping wine on the terrace. Perhaps you’ll cook dinner on the barbecue before enjoying a relaxing bubble bath in the beautiful copper tub. Or to take the romance to the next level, you might soak in the hot tub under the stars. It’s impossible to leave here feeling stressed out.

A short twenty-minute drive away is the Gannel Estuary, which separates neighbouring Crantock village from Newquay. Have a go at canoeing in the estuary, or try your hand at paddle-boarding over in Crantock. On quieter days, why not go for fish and chips followed by some ice cream in idyllic fishing villages such as Mevagissey, Mousehole or Gorran Haven, all within an hour's drive? You can slip into your own wood-fired hot tub just outside the back door, and the host has been thoughtful enough to provide a generous stack of logs to get you started. Meet the farm animals or set off alongside the private Nature Reserve to discover the private shingle beach on the River Tamar. Later, take advantage of some of the farm's other surprises — a communal games room with ping-pong, a shared tennis court, a hammock hidden away in the orchard, and a basketball hoop. With a number of extra activities also bookable, you can take part in a foraging workshop, try out stand-up paddleboarding or get involved in local wine tasting. Alternatively, you can drive to the port city of Plymouth in about forty minutes and visit the National Marine Aquarium.

You could sneak in through the back at this apartment in a Regency manor, but that would take away from the grand entrance worthy of a Jane Austen heroine. The home faces a quiet lane leading to the centre of the bustling and charming town of St. Ives, where you'll find excellent seafood restaurants, cafés, indie galleries and soft-sanded beaches. A Sea Of Calm

Set in a former hotel, this home is an excellent choice for exploring some of Cornwall's prettiest corners while avoiding the crowds. It’s a minutes’ drive from the bustling port of Looe, where we love to mosey around the model village, gorge on the catch of the day at a restaurant or perch on the sheltered beach. Polperro is also close by, a ten minutes’ drive away, with its cobbled streets and local pubs. Back at home, you’ll find a relaxing bright environment with beachy vibes. We love the different coloured wood in the kitchenette, the blue tiles in the bathroom and the wicker lamps. The loveseat has a clear nautical theme, perfect for afternoon lounging, while the bed is luxurious and welcoming at the end of the day. Enjoy breakfast at the small wooden table, or outside in finer weather, and map out your plans for the day. For the more adventurous, there are several canoe, kayak and paddleboarding shops in Looe, with the choice to hire or go on a guided tour. Otherwise, hit the gorgeous coastal walking paths, following the cliffs and coastline and even passing a few sheltered little beaches.

Quaint Cornish living and refined elegance come together in this stunning home. It’s in a wonderful location in beautiful Padstow, and has been recently redesigned to guarantee that guests have the most luxurious stay possible – it ticks every box. 

The house is just a seven-minute walk from the centre of Padstow and its pretty, characterful harbour. Perhaps you’ll stroll into town first thing for breakfast in one of the many cafes and restaurants, before making your way to the beach. Lower Beach is our favourite, and it’s just an eighteen-minute walk from the house. Take along your bucket and spade and make memories in this most picturesque part of the UK. 

When you make your way back to the house, sun-kissed and sandy, fire up the barbecue. Spend your evening in the garden, admiring the views of the Camel Estuary and watching the sun slowly set. The garden is the jewel in the crown of this lovely home, with comfortable seating and bi-folding doors than can be opened wide to give the living space a holiday feel.

For a unique and unforgettable experience, stay in this operational lighthouse on the furthest point of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula. The sea views are second-to-none, whether that’s from the sunny patio or the detached observation room – complete with a fireplace for cosy storm watching. Seeing as this lighthouse is operational, expect to hear automatic fog signal on misty nights and see maintenance people from time to time. Other than that, the cottage is private with no public access. You’ll park in the National Trust car park – it’s a 300-metre steep path down to the cottage from there. Guests should also be aware that the home isn't suitable for children under 14, including babies. But there's a lot to love here. You even have easy access to a beautiful beach.

The large windows, open living space and terrace present a spanning view of the water and natural surroundings. As you enter the home, The front door leads directly into the open-plan living room with oak flooring and full height sliding doors leading out onto a south-east facing balcony framing the panoramic waterfront views. With the waterfront vistas stretching through to the bedrooms too, it couldn't be easier to stretch out, unplug and relax away from the daily grind of working life. Boat lovers are in for a treat, as you can access the river via the private pontoon and explore the Cornish coastline without having to head to a port. With direct water access onto the estuary for about three hours on either side of high tide, enjoy canoeing or crabbing directly from the private pontoon. This, coupled with the dingy slipway offers the perfect waterfront lifestyle. The Peninsula is dotted with pretty fishing villages and unspoilt beaches, which provide excellent seaside adventures. It's a truly idyllic spot for families or groups of friends looking for a rural getaway and to enjoy nature's charm with outdoor activities and a slow pace of life.

Set in the vibrant Cornish sailing community of Fowey, alongside several Victorian buildings, this apartment is like something out of a fairytale. Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

A big family home in the ever-popular town of Padstow, this place has plenty of wow factors – from rare private parking to stunning views across the River Camel estuary. Set on a slope, its three floors make the most of its position with views getting better and better at the top of the house. Inside, it's a tasteful blend of period features and contemporary styling, with a subtle nod towards its coastal location in its palette of whites, greys and blues. The Edwardian home has been thoroughly updated to provide a perfect spot for a large family getaway. There are two living rooms to choose from (one for the youngsters to hang out in, perhaps?) and a big kitchen diner with an Aga and everything you'll need to cook on night's in. We particularly love the big bedroom on the top floor, with its panoramic estuary views all the way across to Rock, and the semi-covered patio at the back where you can barbecue on sunny afternoons. The garden goes up in steps from the house, finally reaching a raised deck with a dining table and chairs – the ideal place to enjoy the sunshine and that famous view. Just minutes away on foot, Padstow's beautiful harbour and legendary dining scene offer all sorts of options, and it's just a short hike along the coast to the nearest beach. Or catch the foot ferry and paddle in the clear waters at Rock.

An 18th-century building carefully restored to its original plan, it expertly showcases the building’s past through the use of exposed Cornish slated walls, original beams, restored feature fireplaces, and other raw materials that combine in a perfect mix of old and new.  

Formerly a listed Manor House, Courthouse, and Mill, the building is filled with a sense of history as well as its own unique character and sense of place. Lounge in the luxurious living spaces or enjoy a special meal together with your loved ones in the grand dining room that's flooded with that inimitable Cornish coastal light. The fantastically well-equipped kitchen means there has never been a better time to dust off the old chef's apron and put your culinary skills to the test. Here you'll find not one but four ovens, a pizza oven, Braai, and much more – so something tasty to eat is never far away.

One of our favourite things about this home has to be the garden, and we think it is the perfect place to sit back with a glass of wine and really savour that holiday feeling. Fancy a little something extra? For an additional fee, you can have the hot tub at your disposal throughout your stay. Perfect for soaking any tired muscles or simply enjoying an evening of unadulterated relaxation.

Part of an old farmhouse that's been braving the Cornish weather for over seven hundred years. Sitting outside in the morning sun of the east-facing courtyard makes you appreciate the old rugged stone façade, especially compared to the sleek and cosy interior. You'll get a whole wing to yourself, complete with two dining spots outdoors and comfortable loungers in the garden. In the colder months, you'll be spending more time in the sitting room, surrounded by books and a large flat-screen TV with Technics cinema sound for an immersive experience. For a bit more peace and quiet, escape to the reading room which has even more books available, or relax in the pleasantly quiet bedroom. From here, the French doors open up to a cosy spot for two where you can admire the sunrise and plan your day. The nearest wild beach is well within walking distance, but the headline attraction is up the road in Bude. If you're up for some sightseeing, take the car down to Tintagel to see the ruins of King Arthur's mythical castle. 

Coastal Soul

Located in the picturesque village of Harrowbarrow, with sweeping views of the Cornish countryside and Tamar Valley, this Grade II-listed building is sure to impress. Inside, it’s thoroughly up to date with a sleek white and grey colour scheme. The double-height ceilings and clever use of glass make the place feel extra spacious and bright, while a wood-burning stove adds a sense of cosiness. When the weather is on your side, spill out onto the south facing patio for sunshine all day long. After a tasty barbecue lunch, ramble through Kit Hill Country Park or take the thirty-five-minute drive down to Tregantle Beach for wind-whipped walks along the unspoilt sands. Come home in the late afternoon, salty-haired and ravenous, and dig into hearty fare at the traditional pub, just a fifteen-minute stroll from your doorstep.

From here, it’s just a short refreshing stroll to the cafes, shops and award-winning restaurants of St Ives. Our highlights include wandering through the Tate Gallery, walking barefoot on the beach and watching the sunset with locals in the harbour.

Designed to celebrate and honour Cornwall’s rich mining heritage, this stylish apartment sets a striking note with its copper palette, mining prints and subtle antique touches alongside its contemporary decor. Housed in a Grade II listed townhouse dating back to1809, history may be in its bones but its aesthetic is nothing but 21st-century chic.
 
The sociable open-plan living area is bathed in light thanks to the large sliding glass doors that lead out onto a private patio garden. This is the ideal spot to enjoy your morning coffee on the bench while soaking up some rays and the table and chairs here invite alfresco meals aplenty – you’re even free to help yourself to the herb garden to liven up your homecooked feasts. 
 
Tucked away at the back of the apartment, you’ll find the copper-accented bedroom. You’ll have no trouble slipping into sweet dreams in this quiet spot, leaving you rested and ready for an exciting day of sightseeing upon waking up. 

Speaking of exploring, you’re right in the centre of Truro with countless shops and restaurants on your doorstep, as well as some of the city’s most famous sights, including Truro Cathedral (a three-minute walk), the Royal Cornwall Museum (a five-minute walk) and Victoria Gardens (an eight-minute walk). Elsewhere, you’re just a twenty-minute drive from both sandy Perranporth Beach – the only UK beach to have a pub on it – and St Agnes, where you’ll find surf schools, local ale pubs and myriad independent boutiques.
