Away from it all, yet within walking distance of the village pub, this place really has to be one of our favourites in this neck of the woods. A converted farm worker's cottage, it's been lovingly updated to create a modern and comfortable stay. As soon as you walk in, you're welcomed by a warm and classically furnished home, with every little detail already thought of. There's an impressive stone fireplace in the open-plan living room, fitted with a log burner for cosy evenings in, no matter the weather outside. On sunny days, open the French doors to the pretty garden and sit outside on the terrace – the sunsets here are amazing. Thanks to its prime coastline location and eclectic history, Whitby has been drawing in tourists for hundreds of years and if you're tempted to pay a visit, this home is a great base from which to explore the Yorkshire town.

Rather ironically, it's what lies outside that makes this apartment special – gaze out through the windows and you're treated to a sublime view of the North Sea. There's also a private balcony just off the kitchen in case you fancy starting the day with coffee and the sun on your skin – can't we be optimistic?

There's also a lot to like about the interiors, too. The design in the living room is a quirky mix of vintage and contemporary, as seen with the tan leather sofas sitting underneath a grand chandelier. You'll find the kitchen to be decently enough sized for bouts of home cooking and there are no complaints about the minimalist bedrooms, either.

So, what's there to do nearby? Well, quite a lot as it happens. West Cliff Beach and the promenade are about five minutes' walk from the front door, while the famed Whitby Abbey and 199 steps are just over twenty minutes away on foot, crossing the River Esk in the process.

Despite the plain bedrooms and basic bathrooms, overall, we think it's a good option for families keen to explore North Yorkshire.

Located in the quaint Victorian Spa town of Saltburn, this home is a pretty wonderful example of the phrase ‘dynamite comes in small packages’. Sure, it’s a studio, but far roomier than you might expect, and actually rather perfect for a romantic getaway. Draw the curtains to let the light stream in and spend a lazy morning in bed with coffee and a crossword puzzle before finally dragging yourselves out of bed and into the kitchen for breakfast. Head out from there on a romantic walk through town and toward the promenade. 

There are also plenty of hiking options or walks through the maze of The Valley Gardens. If you’re not walking – arm in arm is best – then you can always hop in the car for a road trip with an epic playlist. After a meal at a romantic restaurant, snuggle on the coach with the fire crackling in the wood-burning stove, and just appreciate the space, the moment, and each other.
