More is more here with curiosities in every corner, but there’s plenty of space to relax too. Unwind in the foliage-filled conservatory, lie on the sofa in the living room where a traditional Persian rug pops against a terracotta floor, or take a walk amidst the daffodils in the garden outside. If you can ever peel yourself away from this magical gem, Newark historic market town – known for its indie shops, antiques and old buildings – is only a fifteen-minute drive from your door. After looking around this home, you probably wouldn't guess that the property has been standing for more than a quarter of a millennium, but that's a testament to the care and attention that has gone into the renovation.

Aside from the odd exposed stone wall and the original fireplace, the interior is as contemporary as they come, but great importance is placed on cosiness, too. Underfloor heating and a wood-burner will get you warmed up once again after bracing country walks, while the huge kitchen has plenty of space for whipping up hearty feasts. If the weather's playing ball, you can even eat outside, which will give you an opportunity to admire the bucolic scenery.

With two wings, it also grants everyone plenty of space, though the mezzanine bedrooms can only be accessed through several ground-floor rooms, which might not feel the most private. Still, it's a beautiful space, and the estate is within the Capability Brown Parkland, first landscaped in the early 1700s and still as lush and inviting, perfect for walks with the dogs.

From the underfloor heating to the wood-burning stove, romantic roll-top tub and sweeping views of the Peak District fields and valleys, there’s a storybook warmth and cosiness here that instantly makes you feel welcome. This charming apartment is tucked away in the heart of the Peak District. It’s the perfect base for a couple looking to spend a few romantic days away in the countryside. Beautiful Bakewell is a fourteen-minute drive, and Chatsworth House, with its rich history and stunning gardens, is eighteen minutes away. 

This is a home with comfort at its heart. After days spent touring historic houses and meandering around scenic villages, it’s a delight to return to. You might spend the morning hiking in the countryside surrounding the farm, and then head back here to curl up with a good book. The courtyard garden is a lovely spot for an alfresco lunch, and boasts gorgeous views.

Lovingly renovated and carefully restored, Clare and Paul have turned this barn into a contemporary but warm home. Expect bold florals in the main bedroom, inviting sink-in sofas in the living space and a fully-equipped kitchenette for cooked breakfasts on slow-start mornings.

One side of the barn overlooks rolling hills and patchwork fields, so you can watch the sheep grazing while you relax with a mug of tea on the royal blue loveseat. Then there’s the outside space, which boasts a hot tub for soothing tired muscles after long hikes through the Peaks and a seating area for cream tea in the sunshine.

If country walks are on the agenda, there are a number of public footpaths by your front door and the serene Combs Reservoir is a mere seven-minute walk away. If you’re keen to explore a little further afield, the charming spa town of Buxton is reached in fifteen minutes by car. And when the day draws to a close, sip a gin and tonic in a nearby pub before heading back to your pad to watch a purple dusk fall over the countryside.

This unique home was a bakery in the 1950s but it was converted by the host's parents, who both worked at the Lincoln School of Art. As well as being a day job, they also had a strong interest in artistic endeavours and they filled the interior with hand-crafted ceramics, fabrics and paintings. Today, much of their collection remains and it lends the feel of part-museum, part-period home — especially with the hardwood floors and wood-burning fireplace. The large garden is equally special too, with a pond full of frogs and plenty of lawn space on which to lie back with a book borrowed from the packed shelves in the dining room. When you fancy exploring your surroundings, the city of Lincoln is thirteen minutes away in the car, while the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty can be reached in just over twenty. The award-winning Callow Hall is five minutes away, and Thor’s Cave – one of the beautiful hiking trails of the area – can be found at the other end of a twenty-minute drive. 

But we bet we had you at rural peace, didn’t we? You’d be right to embrace it and there’s no better way than soaking up all that quiet from your position on the sunlounger. In the summer months, you can ward off the heat by slipping into the beautifully clear, private pool. Autumn and spring would best be spent strolling the large garden – you might even pack a basket and thermos for an impromptu picnic when you find a spot that you’re particularly drawn to.
