With its thatched roof and rural village location, this former barn, dating back to 1790, is now a sweet homely hideout for two. The open-plan living space is made for hunkering down – curl up on the plump leather sofa with a cup of tea, then sit down to a hearty meal at the oak dining table. In warm weather, step out onto the patio and soak up the glorious sunshine. 

If you’re keen to explore, grab your binoculars and head over to Upton Fen to catch sight of buzzards and march harriers. When nothing but a crisp pint in a pub garden will do, the White Horse is a fifteen-minute walk away. Spend balmy afternoons strolling along the unspoilt beaches of Caister-on-Sea, reached in twenty minutes by car, or head into the city of Norwich to sample the fantastic selection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants.

This charming cottage provides scenic views of the Norfolk Broads right from its living room. Sit with a book by the electric fireplace, occasionally pausing to gaze out at over the green hills of East Anglia. The cute, country-style kitchen is compact but has everything you need for self-catering. 

Embark on a hike, straight from your front door, stopping for birdwatching and fishing by Womack Staithe. Back at home you can sunbathe in the courtyard and plan a picnic in the shades of the towering oaks in the communal garden.

This rural home in Ludham is a little traditional, and you won’t find any modern features here, though it’s a comfortable and cosy space to return to at the end of a day at Horsey Gap Beach. If you’re looking for a real away-from-it-all retreat that’s truly one of a kind, then look no further than this home on the Norfolk Coast. Featured on Channel 4's Homes by the Sea, it’s located right next to the dunes at Winterton-on-Sea, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A former working lighthouse, it’s perfect for a peaceful stay with a surreal fairytale quality. When we visited, we were particularly impressed by the unusual round rooms that stack up on top of one another. Once filled with nautical equipment, these are now well designed spaces with beautiful furniture and objects, including an impressive library, bunk-bed room for kids, living room, and finally a lofty viewing platform bedroom (not for the faint hearted). Down on ground level you’ll find a contemporary open-plan space where you can cook in the shiny stainless steel kitchen or bask in the warmth of the wood burner as you eat dinner in the relaxed dining area. Folding doors give access out into the small garden for picnics or al fresco breakfasts. Families in particular will love the easy access to seaside life, including great fish and chips, good local pubs, parks and boat-trips. The Norfolk Broads is also nearby; the UK's largest wetland area, it's perfect for boating, cycling and walking. In short, this is a great home for those who want to experience everything a Norfolk staycation has to offer, while staying somewhere with real wow factor.

Although the Norfolk coastline is only half an hour's drive away, you don't even have to get in the car if you fancy a refreshing dip while staying here. Out in the garden, a heated swimming pool will be the place to play and relax all throughout the summer months.

When the British weather has other ideas, however, there's plenty to like about the home's interior, too. The long living room benefits from big windows at either end so there's plenty of natural light, while the kitchen is both generous with surface space and finished in a fetching shade of mint green.

In the local area, there are distractions to appeal to guests of all persuasions. BeWILDerwood theme park takes seven minutes to reach in the car, while Wroxham Barns is a twelve-minute drive away. There's no shortage of walking routes and watersports opportunities in the surrounding Norfolk Broads as well.

If you're after a home that's got space for you and your beloved pooch(es), we've found one that's just 'paw-fect' (we can't promise that won't be the last dog pun). A gorgeous barn conversion close to the wind-whipped Norfolk coast, this home has been set up with dog lovers in mind. There's enough space for up to four of your furry friends to join, with a lavish fleece-lined bed for each, throws for those that just won't stay off the sofa, an enclosed garden and a special dog hamper to welcome them. Two-legged guests will love the open-plan living and dining area, the AGA in the kitchen, comfy sofas and plenty of games. You'll definitely want to keep the dogs out of the bedrooms, though, as the Egyptian cotton bedding is far too sumptuous to share. Nearby there are lots of dog-friendly woodland and beach walks, and local pub The Star Inn will be happy to welcome you and your tail-wagging companions. After a day out exploring the best of the north Norfolk coast, treat yourself to a soak in the hot tub looking out over the surrounding fields. If you want to explore further afield, head twenty miles north to Cromer, known as 'the gem of the Norfolk coast'. We think it makes for the 'ulti-mutt' escape.

With its thatched roof and shuttered windows, you couldn't ask for a cuter cottage than this Grade-II listed address sitting in the middle of a country estate in rural Norfolk.

Although it dates back to the 19th century, the interior is a little more contemporary than you might expect, save for the wooden beams and winding staircase. White walls and framed pictures lend the feel of an art gallery, while the cosy kitchen with a Belfast sink retains a rustic air. And what could be a better way of ending the day than with a long and languorous soak in the freestanding bathtub?

When the weather forecast makes for kind reading, the home has a private patio complete with a hot tub, barbecue and plenty of furniture to help you make the most of it. Alternatively, it doesn't take too long to reach the Norfolk coastline – Sea Palling Beach is twenty minutes' drive away, for instance. The city of Norwich is only half an hour away in the car, too.

Perfectly placed, walk to sandy Great Yarmouth Beach in less than twelve minutes and be at Nelson's Monument and the lively town centre in under half an hour. We'd especially recommend a trip to the Merrivale Model Village if you're after a fun family day out – as with most of the popular attractions, it's well within reach here.

Perched a five-minute stroll away from Caister-on-Sea Beach, this spot offers an idyllic setting for a family to come together for a refreshing break by the sea. Cosy and charming, this chocolate box cottage dates back to 1714 and is absolutely brimming with traditional character. Original fireplaces and bread ovens, exposed brick walls and wooden beams – no wonder it's Grade II-listed. And, surprisingly, it's super roomy, with multiple living spaces, a high-spec kitchen and a small conservatory that's the perfect spot to sip a cup of tea in the sunshine. After rustling up dinner in the country kitchen (which is has everything you'll need to cook), sprawl out on the squishy leather sofas for a movie night – there's Prime, Netflix and Disney+, so you'll have plenty of options. On summer days, take your relaxing out into the enclosed garden, nursing a glass of wine or firing up the barbecue as the kids (and dogs) let loose in the fresh air.

Nestled in Salhouse in the idyllic Norfolk Broads, this area calls for long walks through the beautiful countryside and boat rides down the River Bure. There are two fantastic village pubs and a quaint tea room within walking distance, plus many more along the water in the Broads. It's a twenty-five-minute drive to Caister-on-Sea if you fancy a beach day, and fifteen to Norwich when you crave a bit more pace. All in all, this is a lovely spot for the whole family to unwind and recharge.

An ideal starting point for inspiring coastal walks to Hemsby, Winterton, or Great Yarmouth; there's plenty of Norfolk's expansive coastlines to discover from here. Or for a spot of culture, head to Caister's 15th-century old castle (five-minute drive away) - now home to a royal range of vintage cars. When tummies start to rumble, there are pubs for hearty grub within walking distance and, of course, an obligatory fish and chip shop. Or head home for a barbecue in your private enclosed garden, where kids and dogs can roam free with sandy toes. Inside, this home is perfectly set up for an easy family holiday. Upstairs there are smart, clutter-free spaces, including a nursery room with a cot ready to go. Downstairs, the large breakfast bar in the kitchen is a fantastic spot to all come together to rustle up breakfast and hatch plans for a day exploring. Before you adventure through your surroundings, drop your bags, get the fire roaring and make yourself comfortable in the cosy living space. Should you start to feel peckish, there’s a fully-equipped kitchen at your disposal – take your plates outside to the well-kept garden if the sun shines. Once you’re refuelled and raring to go, frolic on Sea Palling’s Blue Flag beach before quenching your thirst with a well-deserved pint at Reefs Bar, a ten-minute stroll from your doorstep. Just beyond the village, you’ll find designated bridleways and a National Cycle Route if you’d prefer to explore on two wheels. Jump in the car and visit The Broads’ picturesque waterways, a twenty-five-minute drive away or pop down the coast to visit the pups at Horsey Seal Colony – and be sure to try the food at the 1940’s inspired tearoom.

Part of a striking period building close to the centre of this buzzing seaside town, the home is modern, spacious and effortlessly cool. Once a post office, this building still retains features like its impressive windows and partially tiled, loft-style walls. But the real showstopper is the incredible vaulted ceiling, with exposed metal struts and a clever mezzanine level above the open-plan living space. Here you and your group can spread out on the comfy sofa, cook meals while chatting over the unique breakfast bar and eat at the industrial dining table. And we absolutely love the vast master bedroom up in the eaves. Surrounded by steel girders and with its own lounge area and bathroom, it's a luxurious and quirky place to sleep. Here you'll be just a ten-minute walk from the seafront and beach, with all sorts of attractions, shops and restaurants right outside your door.

Dating back as far as the 1470s when Sir James Hobart (a confidante of Henry VII) built a family estate, This home is one of the most spectacular places we’ve ever seen and truly perfect for family gatherings, breaks away with friends, weddings, and more. Step into history oozing with the finest luxury afforded to the home's guests, including ample space as, on top of the main hall, there’s also the Gatehouse, the Cottage, and the Garden Rooms, as well a separate barn for hosting events, and of course the grounds. The history of this home has been preserved immaculately, while at the same time, modern comforts are around every corner. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

The facilities available at the hall are second to none, with no need or whim uncatered for, including perfectly equipped kitchens, games room, library, a wealth of entertainment, cosy open fires and woodburners, lawns and meadows, and even a moat, and should you wish to prize yourself away from this phenomenal home and head on out to explore, the bustling seaside town of Great Yarmouth is just a twenty-seven-minute drive away, while the Norwich city centre can be reached in twenty-two minutes by car, and is perfect for those shopping needs. We highly recommend trying out the cosy pubs around the area for a good pint and perfect company.

On the River Bure, adventurous types can bring a canoe or paddle board, and even paddle along to the nearby riverside pub. You'll have your own fishing spot if that's how you prefer to spend your afternoons, or just bring your binoculars and look out for otters, kingfishers and more. Indoors, it's a bright and modern space, with a sociable living area and stylish kitchen – complete with a huge island. Patio doors open to a private terrace, and we love the vaulted ceilings and stripped-back original beams. There's a bedroom on the ground floor, with direct access outside, and the family bathroom is on that level too, while the master and third bedroom are upstairs (the third having a unique, low level window overlooking the dining room). With fifteen acres of land to explore, there are great walks to be had from your doorstep, and here you'll be about twenty minutes by car from Norwich in one direction, and the stunning Norfolk coast in the other.

Gently Down The Stream

We may have just found the most adorable home in Norfolk — and it's pet friendly. Located only a short walk from Happisburgh beach, this stunning barn conversion is a fantastic spot to bring your loved ones and let loose. While the pups are playing in the garden, you can chill out in the shade with a cocktail recipe that took you mane iterations to perfect and play scrabble to showcase your enviable vocabulary. Take the tribe to the beach whenever you feel like and when the weather is nice, have a picnic there too. On lazier days, you might only make it as far as the orchard garden, but that's more than fine as long as you remember to relax. When you feel like embarking on a day trip, Norfolk will provide plenty of fascinating destinations ranging from war memorials to famous tearooms. 

Happyburgh

Just on the outskirts of the pretty village of Filby, a short walk from the broad and a seven-minute drive from the sea, this home is in the perfect spot for exploring the best of Norfolk. Tucked away in a quiet country lane, it's a charming home with tonnes of character, ideal for a family or a small group of friends.

There's nothing dull or neutral about the interior, decorated with bold colours, quirky ornaments, vintage treasures and modern art. The heart of the home is the family room and kitchen, with its stone floor and huge kitchen island. There's a dining table as well as a breakfast bar and squashy leather sofa, so it's a big, sociable space with skylights and double doors out to the garden. A snug just around the corner is the perfect place to cuddle up in front of a film and there's a log burner for added cosiness in the winter.

But what we really love about this place is the outdoor space, which had us trying to work out how we could copy it at home. The gravel patio features an outdoor sofa for drinks in the sun while the lawn is flat and safe for children to play on. And at the end of the garden, a beautiful oak-framed shelter means you can barbecue and eat outdoors no matter the weather. Complete with bunting, a little bar and a mini-fridge, it's more than a little dreamy.

From here it's just a short stroll to the nearby pub and village shop, with Norfolk's beautiful beaches at Caister-on-Sea less than a ten-minute drive and Great Yarmouth just a little further.

Hello blue Sky

Welcome to a true slice of rural paradise. Situated five miles inland from the gorgeous Norfolk coastline, this cosy home is perfect for small families or groups of friends looking for a wholesome escape in the Norfolk Broads.

A quaint stone exterior, cloaked by fresh greenery and colourful flowers, guards an interior brimming with modern luxury. You'll love the intimate vibe of the cosy living room – a snug haven of comfort. Warmed by a modern fire, the comfy sofas provide the perfect sanctuary to curl up with a book and cup of tea.

With a sprawling garden, tree house and a games room that kids will approve of, this Norwich cottage is a solid option for family holidays. Outdoor seating, a hot tub and a barbecue round out the wrap-around garden. Perfect for spending sunny days outside. The house itself is cosy and comfortable, with more than enough space even with up to five guests sleeping on sofa beds in the living areas. As for your locations, this cottage is tucked away in the 'Capital of The Broads', close to the Broads National Park. Norwich is a short drive away, and a few beaches dotted along the coast lies within driving distance. 

Thatched Haven

There are too many good things about The Hobart Spring to list, but suffice to say that it’s every bit as good as it looks. Most of the buildings date to the 1470s, when Sir James Hobart (later attorney general to the king) built his family home. Our favourite room (not an easy decision) is the kitchen, which looks beautifully traditional, but alongside the Aga, has an electric oven, gas hob, espresso machine and more. You can also pick herbs from the raised beds in the back. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

The Hobart Spring

This lovely home is perfect for those who don't want to leave their dogs behind when going away on holiday. The property is expertly crafted to accommodate pooches so they can also have a wonderfully comfortable stay. There's plenty of space within the house as you wander through, admiring the beamed ceilings and rustic wooden features throughout. Snuggle up together in the living space, including the dog of course, to watch a movie on the TV as you sip on a toasty cup of coffee. You've got a choice of where you'd like to tuck into meals too, whether you opt for an al fresco lunch in the courtyard, a hearty homecooked plate at the indoor dining table, or a light bite while sitting at the breakfast bar.

The outdoor space is a fantastic spot to enjoy a picnic with your loved ones on the grass or on the picnic bench, as your loveable dogs run around and play. In fact, you may even spot a range of wildlife during your stay here as red deer and hares have been seen amongst the rural surroundings.

Not only is the house great for dogs, but the surrounding area too. With relaxing walks along the Weavers Way as you traverse through verdant trees and bushes – a beautiful getaway from the hustle and bustle of busy daily life. A short drive takes you to the market town of Stalham where you can treat yourself to a delicious portion of fish and chips. Sea Palling Beach is a fifteen–minute drive away from the house for a day out by the ocean – your dogs will love running up and down the sand here. 

Daydream For Dogs

Nestled in the cosmopolitan heart of Norwich, referred to by some as the "Notting Hill" of the area, this bright apartment boasts plenty of charm. Set over two floors and filled with interesting touches, this is a city pad with personality. 

We love this home’s quirky vibe, owed in no small part to its bold use of colour. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the lounge area, with its eye-catching Chesterfield sofa and ottoman, both promising a cosy snug. The living area is split-level with the kitchen raised up above the sitting room, a stage for cooks to perform their culinary theatrics. Luxury in the bedrooms is a little more understated, a soft palette ushering you into a gentle night's sleep under the skylights. 

Open your front door and you're in the heart of an area with a lively mix of restaurants, cafes and bars, plus numerous green spaces dotted about. You get the magic of the city centre, located just a fifteen-minute walk away, without too much of its hustle and bustle, and with all of the comforts at your disposal, there’s everything you’ll need here for a truly relaxing stay. 


Market Aubergine

This elegant coastal home set a mere 0.1 miles from the beach in the postcard-pretty village of Happisburgh, had us charmed with its country garden and summer house alone. And that was before we'd even seen the slipper bath and four-poster bed of its swoon-worthy interiors.

Inside, every corner of this Norfolk home feels like an interior magazine brought to life. Antique pieces and objets d'art nod to the home's 18th-century beginnings, while pops of colour add a dash of modernity.

Set out over one level, there's room for you to all spill out in style here. When the sun shines, pad out into the enclosed wraparound garden for alfresco breakfasts. Then savour that second coffee beneath the dapple of the apple tree while kids and furry friends run off some energy on the lawns.

When you're ready to meet the locals of this otherworldly village, Happisburgh's traditional inn dating back to 1550 is just around the corner for upper-crust grub. Or follow the iconic red and white striped lighthouse down to the seafront for afternoons of picnicking and sandcastle building.

As evenings draw in, head home to run yourself a bubble bath (there are fluffy robes and slippers at the ready) before nestling beside the fire and breaking out the home's board games. Then all that's left to do is sink into that hug of a king-sized, four-poster bed – it's got dreamy slumbers written all over it.

If you're travelling with furry friends in tow, look no further than this thatched-roof cottage close to the Norfolk coastline. 

Throws for sofas, dog bowls, bags and biscuits all come as standard. Tiled floors downstairs mean there’s no need to worry about muddy paw prints on carpets, and if you don’t fancy one of the many great walks on the doorstep, you can just let them exercise themselves in the garden. Even the local pub — the Lessingham Star, a couple of minutes’ walk — is dog-friendly.

Of course, you don’t need a hound to enjoy this fantastic house. The owners are former residents and it still very much has the feel of a family home. Downstairs, there are plenty of cosy living rooms and snugs in which to rest up after long rambles. In the country-style kitchen, there's an electric range oven for the full rural fantasy, although there's a barbecue out on the terrace if the weather's on your side. Come nighttime, you might be able to see bats or hear owls, foxes and deer from the nearby woodland.

When you want an afternoon out, there's a hedge-lined grassy track that will take you to Sea Palling beach in twenty minutes' walk and the Norfolk Broads can be reached in no more than five minutes in the car. The city of Norwich is a forty-five-minute drive away, too.
