It goes without saying that the outdoorsy type will fall truly in love with this address as guests will have access to fishing, cycling, canoeing, walking and bird-watching – all in less than a twenty-minute drive away. If you're looking for a countryside retreat for a larger group – it's worth knowing that the host also has three other cottages on-site which in total can sleep up to sixteen guests.

Oxfordshire's Finest

When the sun shines on the stone exterior, sit out on the dreamy garden table next to the water. Idyllic and peaceful, it's a serene spot to tuck into breakfast or just sit with a glass of wine. 

If you fancy heading out of the home, Baston is formed by scenic walking trails along the river. If you're taking your dog, they'll love the open green spaces and woodland areas.

For the days where you fancy some urban comforts, Peterborough and Stamford are just a short drive away. Stamford is a postcard-picture town – cobbled streets are lined with homely pubs and authentic cafes. Spend a day perusing the shops, exploring the market and sipping a beer in the pub garden.

Grain Of Water

This Georgian abode began its life as two 18th century coach houses and was expertly combined in the 1930s to create one impressive golf pavilion. Now a swish family home, the place is a seamless blend of contemporary design, plush materials and old-world charm. You’ve an acre of grounds to explore and a Summer House for stolen moments with your favourite book plus a sunken trampoline for big and little kids alike. Yomp through the surrounding countryside, bask in nature at Draycote Water (a twenty-minute drive away) or visit the famous town of Rugby – it’ll take you no more than fifteen minutes by car. 

Dandelions & Daisies

With more than enough room to comfortably accommodate six guests, this gorgeous barn conversion in the Bedfordshire countryside is sure to wow even the most selective of guests. From the moment you step inside, you'll be wowed by soaring double-height ceilings, vast windows looking out over the gardens, plus a beautiful blue kitchen that will get your culinary juices flowing.

Elsewhere, the ground floor offers a sociable seating area set around a woodburning stove, a separate snug for when you want some time to yourself, plus a bedroom with direct access to the outdoors. Make your way upstairs, and you'll uncover a further two master bedrooms with en-suites and far-reaching vistas over the surrounding landscape.

Step out through the chic Crittal-style doors to discover a beautifully manicured garden with plenty of outdoor seating for dining and relaxing. Make the most of the west-facing garden and jump in the hot tub for a soothing soak as the sun dips below the horizon.

Away from this spectacular home, the charming university city of Cambridge is under an hour's drive away. We'd suggest a self-guided tour of the colleges before heading downriver on a punt. And while you can do this on your own, we've seen too many people fall in, so we'd suggest hiring a pro punter to help you navigate the water. Nearby, Grafham Water offers more opportunities to get out on the water, either at the sailing club or the giant inflatable water park.

A Rose by Any Name

This characterful townhouse can be found in the heart of Oxford's Golden Triangle. Outside, it’s just a short stroll to independent shops, bars and cafes on Cowley Road. You can walk into the historic city centre in just twenty-minutes and there are great public transport links – making it easy to explore further afield. Parking is available and there’s a sweet little garden for warm weather drinks. Plus, the rooms are perfect for families and groups in search of simplicity and ease. You’ll also find all of the bedrooms come with desks – making this a great option for remote workers. 

I'll Keep You

You’ll find this cottage in the most historic part of picturesque Burford. Grade II listed and dating back to the 1500s, this home blends old-world charm and modern comforts. Curl up beside the wood-burning stove beneath wooden beams, and listen to the church bells ring on the hour. The classic country cottage garden is a wonderful spot for a barbecue – you can see neighbours coming and going thanks to its higgledy piggledy nature. Discover atmospheric pubs a few minutes away, set off on country walks, and visit beautiful Bourton-on-the-Water, just 9 miles away. 

The Bell Ringers

Situated right on the lakeside with its own private, wood-fired hot tub this fantastic glamping pod offers comfortable accommodation for up to six guests within its light and surprisingly spacious feeling interior. The pod is part of a farm park, so kids and adults alike can enjoy meeting the alpacas, lambs, pigs, and other farm animals with free entry. 

Venture off the farm and into the town of Hertford and you will find a range of local shops, restaurants, and traditional pubs as well as the historic Hertford Castle, the grounds of which are perfect for a picnic on a summer's day. There are also loads of walking trails nearby, such as the Chadwell Way Sculpture Trail which follows a five-mile route through the towns and countryside of Hertford, Ware, and Great Amwell, in Hertfordshire, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to get out moving out in the fresh country air.

The Lakeside Glam-pod

It’s a ten-minute stroll to Burford’s quaint high street, where independent shops, art galleries and pretty tea rooms await. 

Burford Blossom

Situated within the idyllic Gotha Gardens at Pembroke Farm, this cottage stays true to its farmhouse heritage without giving up on any modern luxuries. Whitewashed beams adorn the ceilings in the living room, vibrant flatwoven rugs lay on oak floors and an ornamental fireplace takes centre stage. It’s tucked away in the countryside – but close enough to pubs and restaurants to be practical – so the views are glorious. You can spend your time curled up in front of the log burner, or sipping champers in the hot tub on the balcony.

The house is an eight-minute drive to the town of Thame. It’s at the foot of the Chilterns, so if you fancy stretching your legs there are lots of walks for you to enjoy. Otherwise you can spend your time strolling around the town, shopping in the markets that are held several times a week, and admiring the medieval, Georgian and Victorian architecture. 

If you’re anything like us, though, you’ll find it hard to tear yourselves away from this home. Your every need is catered for here so you’ll be in the lap of luxury. Open up the bi-fold doors to the garden in summer and dine alfresco, enjoying the outdoor space. Soak away your troubles in the magnificent bathtub, before slipping between the softest sheets.
