A dash of magic has been liberally sprinkled over the traditional interior of this charming cottage and we’re big fans. The living room is cosy as you like, with a squashy pair of teal chesterfield sofas, an open fire and gilt-framed pictures. Upstairs, the bedrooms have a sumptuous boutique feel (we loved the luscious leafy look in one of them) and rural views that invite total relaxation. The unique dining nook is adorned with sheepskins, a chandelier made of antlers and characterful wallpaper depicting country scenes, making it a space fit for a (smallish) party of lords and ladies. The setting is rather lovely too, in a pretty Lincolnshire hamlet, with open countryside all around. Outside there’s a beautiful garden with a pergola and dining areas for those dusky summer evenings. Nearby Harlaxton, a five-minute drive away, is ideal for stocking up on basic supplies, as well as providing a slice of history with Harlaxton Manor. Drive a little further to take a stroll down Grantham Canal for gorgeous waterside views or explore the pale limestone streets of Stamford. Depending on the season, evenings are either about a glass of something cold in the garden, or a warming red in front of the fire – whichever way, it’s a delight.  

Lady’s Mantle

Nestled between the postcard-perfect towns of Burford and Stow-on-the-Wold, this cottage makes exploring the Cotswolds a breeze. Scenic walks are on your doorstep, while the sleepy village of Fifield offers a slower pace of life without shops or conveniences. It's the perfect spot to unwind and take in the surrounding nature. The large garden has a table for alfresco lunching. Head inside and you'll find a comfortable living space with a working fireplace to make things extra cosy. There are zip-and-link beds in one bedroom and adult-sized bunk beds in another, which makes sleeping arrangements flexible for all groups.

Gardener's Hideaway

Tucked away in the community-led village of Tackley, within half an hour’s drive of Oxford, Woodstock and the Cotswolds, this lodge invites guests to put their feet up. Flexible sleeping arrangements mean this place is suitable for any family or group of friends staying together, and there’s a private terrace for enjoying fair-weather days. If you’d like to make your stay even more memorable, your host provides a range of at home experiences, from cider tasting to yoga sessions.

The Little Cotswold Cottage

This bright and modern apartment situated in the heart of Welwyn Garden City is an ideal base for a couple or a solo traveller visiting this lovely part of the country – whether for business or simply to enjoy the many gorgeous sights on offer.

Parkway Fountain 

Nestled along the River Nene, this Grade II listed building offers a tranquil escape in the heart of Oxfordshire. Right on the river bank, this traditional mill house dates all the way back to the 18th century, boasting plenty of English charm thanks to large bay windows and green gardens. 

Speaking of the garden, this is a lovely spot to enjoy your morning coffee and watch the swans glide along the water. Once you're feeling refreshed and ready to explore, head into the local village to admire the thatched-roof cottages and quaint churches, or take the dog for a walk through the rich woodland of Bernwood Forest. Of course, no trip to Oxfordshire would be complete without a trip to the prestigious Oxford Univeristy – the Botanic Garden in particular makes for a relaxing afternoon. 

However you choose to pass the time, you'll always have a cosy home to come back to. Summer evenings were made for barbecues on the patio, followed by a glass of wine around the fire pit. When the weather turns chilly, head indoors to cosy up with a cup of cocoa in front of the fireplace, followed by a bubble bath in the beautiful roll-top tub.

In the idyllic Oxfordshire village of Stanton St John, this red-roofed barn conversation is the best of country and city. It may be a rural base, but the charming centre of Oxford is a fifteen-minute drive away. Stanton St John has everything you need with a village shop and farm shop within a five-minute walk. Plus, meandering country walks are right on your doorstep. The home itself has been beautifully designed, with honey-hued stonework fitting in with the rustic aesthetic and a wooden pergola dappled with climbing plants shading the outdoor seating area. Just next to this there’s a big lawn which creates the back garden. Glass folding doors open up to blend indoors with outdoors so you can listen to the hum of bees and smell the flowering lavender from the breakfast table. The living room is a cosy snug, dominated by the plush velvet corner sofa as oil paintings look on. Come bedtime, bedrooms in Victorian floral splendour provide a plush place to lay your head. 

Ivy & Lace

Whether you’re visiting Cambridge for business or pleasure, this place makes for a comfortable home-from-home. There’s a desk for remote working and a paved garden for alfresco cups of tea, not to mention it’s ideally located – indie boutiques, restaurants and cafes are all within walking distance. It’ll take around fifteen minutes to stroll into the heart of town but if you need to take a trip out of the city, Cambridge train station is a five-minute drive away.

Time for Heroes

With endless countryside views and a wonderful location, this home makes the ideal setting for a refreshing rural escape. It’s a short drive into the market town of Witney, while the close proximity to the Cotswolds means easy access to beautiful hiking and cycle trails. Private parking is available and you’ll have access to a peaceful garden with outdoor seating and hammocks. Inside, the sitting room lends itself perfectly to cosy evenings by the fire. There is also a snug on the first-floor which doubles up as a bedroom thanks to the sofa bed.

The Heart of Hertfordshire 

This old dairy, set on the Burghley Estate, is a peaceful getaway for large groups and makes a pretty picture for small celebrations. Throughout the restoration of the dairy and its conversion into cottages, an emphasis remained on the history of this building, and plenty of the original features remain to make this a charming and comfortable stay. With two wings, it also grants everyone plenty of space, though the mezzanine bedrooms can only be accessed through several ground-floor rooms, which might not feel the most private. Still, it's a beautiful space, and the estate is within the Capability Brown Parkland, first landscaped in the early 1700s and still as lush and inviting, perfect for walks with the dogs.

The Cottage Soul

There's lots to admire about this charming cottage, and that's before you factor in its sought-after Cotswold location. There's a ground floor bedroom and en-suite bathroom accessible to all, a grand living room with a log-burning fire, optional dining packages for lavish occasions, and a gigantic terrace and garden area with a gentle stream flowing at the bottom. Situated in the village of Little Compton, the home is within an hour of several regional staples – including Chipping Norton, Soho Farmhouse, Bicester Village, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Stow-on-the-Wold – and provides plenty of warmth and comfort after any day trips you may have planned.
