Tucked away on the coast of Cornwall, this multi-story home near Portwrinkle isn’t just a winner because of the stunning sea views it has from the balcony – and they really are breathtaking – but step inside and you’ll see what the fuss is about. 

Complete with a home cinema, indoor swimming pool, hot tub, statement fireplace, and table tennis, it practically ticks the boxes on both fun and comfort, and it’s not bad to look at either. With bold patterns, a mix of sleek fittings and rustic fun, and a beautiful attention to detail, this space feels homely from the outset, and once you’ve spent a lazy morning sprawled on the sofa or nursing a cup of coffee on the balcony, the home-away-from-home feeling will be undeniable. 

The elegant cinema set up will make every movie night feel like a personal screening and we encourage as many snacks as you can manage to carry when spending time with the family here. When you’re not busy making yourself through the list of everyone’s favourite films, you can sit out on the terrace admiring the view with drinks in hand and food on the barbecue. 

Dine at the beautiful table where you can keep an eye on the sea and have the family musician entertain you with songs on the piano as you sink back on the sofa to watch the dancing flames in the gorgeous, stone fireplace. 

Golfers can enjoy the course only one minute away whilst the rest of the family head to the beach. Hike the coastal paths around the home before stopping off at the pub for a pint. 

Stones & Glass

The seafront architecture of British coastal towns are known for being grand and this penthouse on Elliot Terrace is no exception. Newly refurbished and spanning across 110 square metres, this penthouse boasts south-facing panoramic vistas over the Hoe and Plymouth, then east towards Dartmoor. Original features including arched windows, stone balconies and intricate details create a bold facade that makes a statement on the seafront. Did we mention that previous residents include one of the richest families in the country? With Nancy Astor being Britain's first female MP residing at No 3 and Arthur Conan Doyle at No 6  – visitors that have made history include the King and Queen, Winston Churchill and even Charlie Chaplin. Step outside and breathe in the fresh sea breeze as you hear the gulls fly by and dare we say – that you may even feel like you're abroad when the sun is out. Inside, the apartment's slick furnishings, luxurious bathrooms and large living room create a feeling of simple sophistication with the added bonus of being by the seaside. The central location within Plymouth makes it easy to walk to restaurants, galleries and boutiques in under fifteen minutes. Meanwhile, Dorset and the Cornish coastline sit on either side of Plymouth, meaning this spot is an excellent base for day trips to beautiful beaches and National Trust coastal paths – so we're not surprised that Plymouth is one of Devon's most popular holiday destinations. Pack up a picnic and head out to the beach, just two minutes across the street, or sample some local English food at one of the many cafes and eateries in the area. 

The Sea Lark

Once upon a time, this waterfront home was a coastguard's cottage. Since then it has since been completely renovated to create a fantastic holiday home for up to four guests, plus a furry friend. 

On chilly evenings, you can throw a log on the fire and curl up with a board game or a good book. The bright and airy dining space is perfect for long, lavish dinners cooked using fresh ingredients from the verdant Cornish countryside. Best of all, there's plenty of outside space to enjoy when the sun is shining. Sip a tipple on the patio, then fire up the barbeque for an alfresco feast with a sea view. And, there's no better way to round off your day than with a long, luxurious soak in the outdoor hot tub – bliss. 

You only need to take a few steps down to arrive at the waterfront, where you can dip your toes in the sea or go paddleboarding. If you prefer a long, sandy beach, then Tregantle Beach is only a short drive away. And, when you fancy a day trip, head into Plymouth to learn about the port city's rich maritime history. 

The Coastguard

Set within the coastal village of Kingsand, this pet-friendly cottage is full of quirky charm. From the outside, its tall, narrow facade gives it a lighthouse-feel, while inside it's cosy and homely. The living room is small but snug, with a log-burning fire and picture-perfect sea views. And the location? Kingsand is quieter than many villages along this stretch of coastline, offering a quaint, laid-back atmosphere, with pubs, restaurants, scenic hiking paths and the beach all just a few minutes' walk away. 

Lighthouse Cottage

Imagine waking up to the calming sound of the waves gently rolling in at the beach situated beyond your home – this is exactly the sort of peaceful retreat that awaits you at this beautiful Cornish home. Perfect as a base for a family or a group of friends, you’ll enjoy a memorable holiday, with all the comfort and picturesque beauty to help you leave the pressures of everyday life behind. 

Step inside to find a dazzling single-level home, filled with streams of natural light flooding in through the huge picture windows. The open-plan living area is a cosy haven, ideal for leisurely afternoons of reading or games and warm evenings by the fire with a good movie and a glass of wine. We love the sleek, wooden floors and bright, plush furnishings, creating an inviting ambience. 

You’ll get inspired to create delicious meals in the modern, well-stocked kitchen, featuring all the necessary gadgets to make rustling up a family supper a work of moments. You can savour your meals at the dining table inside or gather for an alfresco feast outside, where the lush garden, comfy seating and those stunning ocean views await. 

Before you head to the comfy bedrooms for a night of restful sleep, why not treat yourself to a relaxing bath in the spa-like family bathroom. 

Outside your oceanside oasis, you’ll be able to take dreamy nature walks by the beach, as well as enjoy all that the village of Downderry has to offer, with a charming local pub and a restaurant just moments away. 

I Wake Up With the Ocean 

Located along Devon’s Jurassic coast, this modern farmhouse is an idyllic place to call home. Sitting just above the sands of Boivsand Beach, you and your loved ones can make the most of your coastal location, while Plymouth’s bustling centre is just a short drive away. The contemporary country-style kitchen invites you to get creative though there are great restaurants in nearby Plymouth if you prefer to dine out. Everyone will be getting a good night’s rest here, courtesy of the comfy bedrooms, and come morning, welcome a new day with a cup of coffee out in the private garden overlooking the sea. 

Magnolia Sunset

This delightful home overlooks Plymouth Sound and boasts one of the best locations in the city. With only Hoe Park between you and the sea, spend your stay strolling along the waterfront and visiting the Barbican area’s pretty harbourside restaurants, less than a ten-minute walk from your doorstep. 

The apartment itself has beautiful sash windows, which flood the rooms with light. Wooden floors, mustard velvet upholstery and a modern kitchen make the open-plan living space a comfortable and stylish place to relax after a day of exploring. But the highlight of this home has to be its views, which you can enjoy from the balcony. We think it’s an experience best enjoyed with a locally distilled gin in hand as the sun sets into the water.

Italianate

Why choose between coastal and rural settings for your holiday when you can have both? That's what you get at this serenely quiet Cornish retreat. A collection of three beautifully presented homes – including two former barns and a Victorian Gothic-style cottage – it’s located in forty acres of private countryside. On the farm estate, you'll find your own private riverside shingle beach to walk to, and further afield, sandy beaches just 13 miles away. Highlights of the estate include three hot tubs (two electric, one wood-fired), three wood burners, and three flat-screen satellite televisions and DVD players, along with a selection of books, board games, and DVDs. You’ll also have use of the tennis court, orchard picnic area, basketball hoop, communal games room with table tennis, woodland, and nature reserve. For that extra special touch, the hosts can organise private wild food foraging workshops, stand-up paddle boarding tuition, spa treatments, or afternoon tea. Basically, it’s a fantastic group trip destination, whether you’re a party of four or fourteen.

Family On The Farm

Stylish and classic at every corner, this home has been beautifully decorated and oozes elegance from its walls. Located only moments from Plymouth Hoe and the picturesque sea, you’ll have convenient access to quaint shops, beaches and entertainment venues to fill your time – although this is a home you won’t want to stray far from. Feature fireplaces are a cosy touch if visiting during winter months – enjoy a warming tea in the morning from the confines of your duvet, with the coal fire a toasty addition to the sun peeking through the bay windows. With the option to bring your four-legged friends along for the ride, they will have a sweet spot to curl up next to. With so much within walking distance, they will happily put their paws up at night. 

If you do like to be beside the seaside, enjoy an evening off cooking and pick up some traditional fish and chips for dinner.
