Set on a hilltop in the beautiful countryside surrounding Frome, this renovated barn conversion makes for a splendid base for Somerset stays. It’s been lovingly renovated into a modern and comfortable home, with everything you might need for your visit to this pretty part of the UK. 

You can look forward to sunny afternoons in the garden, taking in the views of Orchardleigh Estate. Perhaps you’ll cook on the barbecue while the kids play. Evenings and rainy days will be spent around the log burner, playing board games or curled up on the oh-so-comfortable sofa. Your four-legged friends are welcome to join, too, so nobody has to miss out. 

It takes twenty-one minutes to stroll along the River Frome into Frome itself, where you’ll find independent shops and charming cafes. It’s a lovely town to mooch around, set amid Somerset countryside. Woodland walks are right on your doorstep, so make sure you bring your boots. The gorgeous National Trust property of Stourhead is twenty minutes away by car, and is well worth a run out. 


Vista Barn

Deep in the Somerset countryside, this cottage feels like a magical hideaway. Located in the tiny hamlet of Atherstone, this Grade II listed farmhouse stands out with its thatched roof, beautiful stonework, and trailing foliage on its exterior walls. Although ancient, it has been beautifully and elegantly refurbished in a relaxed, country style – and what could be more welcoming than a wood-burning stove? The large fireplace, exposed masonry, flagstone floors, and timber beams are some of our favourite features, but your host goes the extra mile to make it even more special. With fluffy bathrobes and a seriously high thread count on the bedding, you can’t help but notice luxury all around. You can even have a private chef come over and cook your dinner. If you don’t fancy a Sunday roast, light up the barbecue in the lush back garden on a sunny day. The quiet country lanes lead two miles to the nearby town of Ilminster where you can stock up on fresh, local produce and immerse yourself in rural culture. And as part of rural culture, you’ll have to take a trip to the pub to sample some fine English ales.

Step back in time with a stay at this magnificent Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house. And while there’s an abundance of charm and character, you’ll also find plenty of contemporary comforts to bring luxurious ease to your country escape. From the grand dining hall and billiard room to the elegant drawing room and cosy bedrooms, every detail has been considered to inspire optimum relaxation. It’s also the perfect venue for special events, weddings and intimate gatherings with catering and organised experiences available on request. Outside, explore ancient woodlands, historic buildings and an organic farm. It’s also just a short drive to the majestic Quantock Hills and less than two hours from London.

If you’re searching for a break on the Somerset coast, it’s time to stop scrolling. Nestled on the edge of Exmoor National Park, this charming barn boasts panoramic sea views and direct beach access – perfect for families and those on a break with their four-legged friends. Just a stone’s throw from Porlock beach, this home is all about the outdoor lifestyle. So, whether you fancy hiking the moors, mountain biking the local trails, kayaking, paddle boarding or pony trekking – it’s all available nearby.

The Porlock Pearl

What this cottage bungalow may lack in period charm, it more than makes up for in location. Tucked within the peaceful grounds of a Georgian Manor, you’re just a short stroll from Frome’s thriving high street. Private parking for two cars – a rarity in central Frome – makes arrivals easy, as does the nearby train station for day trips to nearby Bath. For downtime, a private suntrap garden and covered decking are prime for pre-dinner drinks, whatever the weather. A Town Dream

Sitting in the sprawling grounds of a family-owned manor house, this cute cottage is the Somerset countryside idyll. Wisteria creeps up the beautiful hamstone facade and the Grade II listed features have been carefully retained. Stepping inside the cottage, it’s surprisingly modern with a long, Scandi-chic dining table for ten at the centre of the open living space (there's dining for sixteen in the conservatory). Comfy blue sofas sit in front of the old hearth, now home to a wood-burning stove, and the kitchen is blissfully modern yet retains a country-style charm. Tuck yourself away in the family snug, set around the big TV for a movie night. Or, head outside and make the most of the fabulous grounds. The cottage itself has a private space with a wood-fired hot tub overlooking the fields and a big outdoor dining table for sunny evening barbecues. The surrounding landscape provides miles of stunning countryside to explore either by foot or bike, and local produce and wholesome meals can be found in pubs and grocery stores in the nearby town.

Pear Blossom

Felicity Orchard is a private affair. The huge enclosed garden offers stunning green views over the surrounding fields, as well as several hangouts where you can put your feet up and relax — from the little dining spot to the luxurious jacuzzi (this is covered, so you can enjoy the water and the fresh air whatever the weather). You'll also be sharing your space with some beautiful flowering fruit trees, so you're more than encouraged to grab an apple in the morning when the season is right. The insides are all open-plan so that you always have the best natural light, and in the evenings, you can curl up with a good book by the wood-burning stove when the weather is chilly. Nearby, you’ll find the beginning of the Grand Union Canal, which makes for a great walk. As you can see, there's always plenty to do in the area, but you can also drive to Exeter if you're in the mood for some urban exploration. 

Felicity Orchard

If you're looking for a classic country cottage – call the search off. With its idyllic walled garden and a luxury interior, this Grade II listed home is the perfect romantic retreat – just the ideal place to spend quality time with loved ones. Host Aisha has lovingly decorated this place with distinguished collectables and antiques, including the wonderful wardrobe in the master bedroom. Watch the sun set over the Somerset hills from the lush grounds – we love the stunning views from here. Later, relax in the hot tub or have a soak in the gorgeous slipper bath. When you're ready to venture out, the Georgian splendour of Bath is a twenty-minute drive away. Spend the day exploring the Royal Crescent, the Circus and the Roman Baths, as well as the many museums such as the Jane Austen Centre. Then unwind at the Thermae Bath Spa with its roof-top pool. For a more relaxed pace, there's a pub and café for lunch in Timsbury, around a five-minute stroll. Or put on your hiking boots and explore the glorious Somerset countryside.

The Parish Stone

Tucked away amid seemingly endless open countryside in Somerset, this home is a little bit special. It’s part of a larger estate – which includes an animal rescue sanctuary – but it has its own driveway so it feels completely private. It’s been transformed into a guesthouse from the ancient outbuildings, and the result is a dreamy bohemian space. 

The house is hidden in 20 acres of private grounds in Lottisham, a rural hamlet in pretty Somerset. You’ll be able to explore the surrounding countryside on foot using the many lanes and footpaths – is there anything better than a crisp country stroll with friends, followed by an afternoon in front of a roaring fire? You’ve also got all of Somerset’s delights to discover by car. It takes eighteen minutes to drive to Glastonbury, where you can walk up to the Tor to take in the view, and shop in the quirky boutiques for crystals and tarot decks. Castle Cary and its charming cafes are sixteen minutes away, and it takes nineteen minutes to reach beautiful Bruton. 

That said you might find that you don’t want to leave the grounds at all. The house is elegant yet warm, full of rustic charm and modern luxuries – everything you need for a relaxing stay is to hand here. You’ll spend your time cooking delicious meals in the stunning kitchen, or playing games in one of the sitting rooms. The outside space is just as lovely, with a huge terrace and a barbecue that makes alfresco feasts in the summer an absolute dream. You’ll be planning your return trip even before reaching the end of the driveway. 


Bohemian Bliss

This home is beyond characterful, inside and out. Dating back to 1880, the cottage is not only filled with historic charm but it packs a serious punch with its style and design. Once you've taken in the glorious facade, settle into a vibrant, warm, and artfully eclectic lounge. The kitchen has a contemporary farmhouse feel, and the rustic dining table is a stylish space to serve all your meals. The bedrooms are rich and luxe, and practically come with their own art galleries - filled with pictures and paintings. You'll be based on the outskirts of the Mendip Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pack your walking boots and a few good books for stunning hikes and picnics in the countryside. This striking home is a truly unique space in Somerset. Whether you're relaxing in the home or exploring the grounds, the view will be a knockout.

A lot of time and thought has been put into converting the historic chapel that is now The Burrow. Nestled in a tranquil spot of countryside surrounded by rolling hills, the space feels authentically rustic but still comfortable and elegant. The tall arch windows provide floods of natural light and beautiful views of the landscape, including the inviting (and heated) swimming pool. While remote location would be difficult for guests without a car, it also makes it a great spot for a romantic getaway.
