Staying in this charming Cotswolds cottage can make you feel like you’re a character from a Jane Austen novel. Located in a wonderfully secluded part of Wiltshire and surrounded by sprawling fields and farm animals, this home is a rural sanctuary of calm. French doors merge the comfortable living room with the natural light and country air of the outdoors – it's the perfect spot for relaxing with a good book, playing games or rustling up a home-cooked meal while socialising with friends and family. Grab a glass of your favourite and sit out on the garden patio, which overlooks picturesque views of the verdant valley. In the mood for exploring? This location gives you easy access to countless walking trails, and when you’re not wandering the fields or following footpaths, there’s a host of traditional pubs and local restaurants to take your fancy. While you’re here, it’s worth visiting the nearby towns of Malmesbury and Tetbury – and check your calendar, maybe your stay overlaps with the famed Badmiton Horse Trials or Tetbury Woolsack Race. 

Penny-Farthing

Even before you enter, it’s clear that there’s something special about Faerie World. The high position of the cottage gives a heavenly view of the stream below, and you can hear the babbling water from the terrace, which is itself surrounded by flowers, and makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale. Once inside, the living room and bedroom don’t disappoint. The bedroom in particular, with its Farrow & Ball colours, stands out. The kitchen doesn’t have the same aesthetic charm, but that’s a small gripe, and shouldn't give you any cause for concern.

Faerie World

Occupying the top two floors of a classic Grade II Georgian terrace, this thoroughly modern pad puts you within minutes of countless sights, including the Roman Baths, Pulteney Bridge and Bath Abbey. It’s not just its stellar locale that caught our eye, though. Decorated and previously owned by a superyacht owner, the space is all about glossy polished finishes and bespoke designer details, from the Andrew Martin furnishings to the main bedroom’s cushions by Westwood and McQueen’s former textile designer. More luxe additions include a boiling water tap in the kitchen, the bathroom’s freestanding tub and Egyptian cotton bedding. What’s more, you’ve got access to a beautiful communal garden –  a reminder of the former orchard here tended by the Abbey’s Benedictine brethren.


Georgian Benediction

When we think of the Cotswolds, we imagine honey-coloured, picture-perfect cottages in charming villages, and this home fits the bill. We love the exposed wooden beams and the wood-burning stove in the living room. This semi-detached cottage has two bedrooms – the second is compact with a small double bed, so it's ideal perhaps for the kids. There’s also a front terrace to relax in after a long walk with the dogs or a visit to the local pub, one-minute away. There’s no shop in the village, but there's a grocery store in Fairford, a five-minute drive. Other attractions in the area include historic Cirencester, Burton-on-the-Water, Burford and the Cotswold Water Park.

Sunny Cottage

This modern country escape on the outskirts of Bath is built on an old horse stable site, overlooking the gorgeous Somerset countryside – if that doesn't scream out sweet rural whisperings, then we don't know what will. It would make a great stay for a family or large group of friends eager to explore the UNESCO World Heritage centre of Bath – a twenty-minute drive away – as well as Bristol (20 miles), Stroud and the countryside around Charlcombe, where you can walk in the footsteps of Jane Austen herself – under half a mile from your estate. Return home after a blissful day spent sightseeing, walking and basking in the sunshine. Stepping in to look around the decor, you'll notice a uniquely designed home with five bedrooms, a slick marble-topped island kitchen and an open-plan living quarter with huge sofas and views over the fields beyond – courtesy of the stylish floor-to-ceiling and black framed windows. Outside, you'll find a private patio, complete with garden furniture – we can think of no better way to start the day, than with a sunny breakfast sat out here. Gaze into the rolling green fields as you work from home at the dedicated office space. Come evening, sit down for a slow feast with the entire group in the chic dining area. No effort nor expense has been spared in creating this retreat that feels fresh and contemporary, while still holding onto its idyllic country roots. 

Buttercup Meadow

This city-centre home perfectly evokes Bath's stylish and vibrant atmosphere. Set in the loft of a typical mews house, the first thing you'll notice is the original wooden beams and eye-catching colour scheme. Pops of orange alongside the sash windows ensure this home is filled with light, and modern art and plants keep the space homely. You'll find everything you need for a home-cooked meal in the kitchen and the TV is equipped with every streaming service you could think of for those post-sightseeing downtimes. Enjoy breakfast while admiring the views of the Georgian gardens outside, then step out and explore the local area. You're just a short walk from the historic Circus and Roman Baths, but you might be equally happy exploring the local shops, cafes, and restaurants in the neighbourhood. On colder evenings, curl up in front of the wood-burning stove with a book before making yourself comfy in the king-sized bed – room-darkening shades mean you'll be asleep in no time. This home also comes with a parking permit for nearby streets, but it's just a short walk to Bath Spa station if you're arriving by train.

Beaming Colours

One of the things that we like most about The Austen is the way that it has retained its sense of history. The building is over 250 years old, and the hosts have managed to keep many of the original features, including the wood panelling, fireplaces, and Georgian shutters. The home is also in the very centre of Bath. As in, less than five minutes on foot to the Roman baths themselves (and the same distance to the station, which while less glamorous, is also worth knowing). Even if it weren’t kept so well, it would be a good base for exploring the city, but as it is, staying here is simply a delight. 


The Austen

Avon Stream juxtaposes the old and the new oh so perfectly. From a Georgian façade and original fireplaces to modern furnishings and contemporary finishes – the home offers a contrast with elegance and style throughout. A lot of care has also been put into the quality of the furniture – we deem the mattresses to be a particular highlight. We also. love that the entire basement floor of this home is underfloor heated – blissful in the winter months when you can kick off your shoes and just unwind. Add into the mix, gig sash windows, high ceilings, and the central (yet surprisingly peaceful) location – and you've got yourself a pristine base from which to explore the picturesque city of Bath. Stroll just seven minutes to visit the historic Roman baths and explore the high street boutiques, cafes and restaurants that surround it. There's no need to drive or even use public transport here, as most of the city is within reach of a convenient walk from your apartment. 

Avon Stream

You can enjoy the views of the surrounding Georgian architecture and the river from this apartment’s terrace – it’s a great place to relax. Inside, the accommodation is split over two floors, and the stunning open-plan living area is perfect for cooking and socialising. There’s also free parking here, which is a bonus. Not that you particularly need a car, as this home has a super convenient address with many of Bath’s attractions a short walk away. These include the Jane Austen Centre, Pulteney Bridge, and the Roman Baths, to mention just a few.

The Georgian Loft

This renovated barn conversion overlooking the Somerset countryside has been thoughtfully designed to bring you and your guests a sense of ease. The space is stylish, with plenty of amenities to enjoy, including a brass bath, a log burner, a fire pit, a pizza oven, an array of board games, and an Amazon Firestick and Marshall Acton II Speaker for entertaining. If that wasn’t enough, your host provides a breakfast hamper awaits to pamper your mornings. Keep in mind there are neighbouring barns here, so you may see a guest or two during your stay. Location-wise, you’re a twelve-minute walk from Frome’s shops and restaurants, whilst nearby attractions include Longleat, The Newt Gardens, and Hauser & Wirth.

Set on the banks of Windrush Lake, this waterside lodge is the perfect retreat. Nestled within the Cotswold Water Park, there's an abundance of activities to try and places to explore – when you're not just hanging out on your waterside deck, that is. The home is spread across three floors, so every family member can seek out their own space to unwind and find a bit of solitude, and there's a homely feel to the place. Spend your days enjoying water sports on the lake, fishing from your garden, horse riding or walking the many lush trails. If that's not enough, the on-site attractions should offer something for everyone with tennis courts, croquet and football goals. Even if you're unlucky with the weather, the home has all sorts of streaming options so you can watch your favourite films, and there are board games and children's toys for a more low tech approach to rainy day entertainment. As the day winds to a close, light up the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco family dinner overlooking the water before hopping into that private hot tub.
