Modern, stylish and in the heart of charming Whitby, this home ticks all the boxes for a memorable stay on the North Yorkshire coast. Honeycomb print livens up licks of trendy grey and we particularly loved the subtle nods to Whitby’s history and maritime identity in the living space and bedroom. A dining table with zesty yellow chairs takes centre stage – come together for a home-cooked breakfast and hot cups of tea before throwing on your sun hat and heading to the seaside. You’re a ten-minute walk from the beach – fifteen if you stop for an ice cream. Cross the River Esk and climb the 199 steps to reach the famous Abbey. With all of that exploring, you’ll have worked up quite an appetite, so pick up a fish supper from an award-winning chip shop and enjoy overlooking the harbour. 

Beehive Cottage

Once the home to horses and coaches, this former stable has been converted into a modern country bolthole with a few traditional touches. The master bedroom sits up in the eaves where timber beams are still on display, but the sprawling king-size bed is a world away from a stable boy’s straw mattress. Downstairs, the living area is an open, social space with a bespoke kitchen. The sleek breakfast bar is a great place to gather and plan your day, while the Belfast sink adds a bit of country charm. Works by local artist David Stead depict the Yorkshire countryside just beyond your doorstep.  It’s all peace and quiet here as the home looks out over the courtyard and gardens, with an outdoor seating set on the patio if you fancy a tipple in the evening sun. The great bonus is that you’re on the outskirts of the charming cathedral city of Ripon, and it’s just a ten-minute walk into the centre.

Riding Boots

It seems quite fitting that a home situated in the heart of the picturesque and historic County Durham should be equally charming – and this cottage nestled on the edge of the village of Hurworth fits the bill perfectly. Surrounded by lush woodlands and steps away from the river Tees, this is an ideal spot to base yourself if you wish to enjoy the tranquillity and natural beauty of this region. 

While the cottage retains its original character, the inside has been fully renovated and restored, offering all the modern comforts to make your stay a restful one. Step through the front door to be greeted by a bright and welcoming interior, with a cosy living room, perfect for lounging about and enjoying movie nights and evenings of wine and conversation by the fire.

Just minutes down the road you'll also find the Rockliffe Hall Golf Hotel & Spa resort, set on a 365-acre estate and boasting one of the UK’s largest spas, an 18-hole championship golf course and multiple restaurants including fine dining options.

Let's Walk By the River

A luxurious, modern conversion, these former stables and coach house once belonged to the nearby manor. Set in extensive grounds but with its own garden, this is one magnificent place to stay in North Yorkshire. Thoughtfully designed by the owners who have put their personal stamp on the stunning interiors, there's plenty of space for groups to socialise – both indoors and out. The high-end kitchen is perfectly equipped for cooking family feasts, plus there's a smaller on the other side of that house that's perfect for whipping up a quick snack. Each bedroom is unique and they all come with spectacular bathrooms, ideal for relaxing after long walks or getting ready for a slap-up meal in town. You'd be forgiven for thinking you're in the middle of the countryside but here you'll be just a short walk away from the city of Ripon, with its endless places to eat, drink and shop. And being right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales means keen walkers and cyclists will love it here too.

Unbridled

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.    

Yorkshire Homestead

Live in ‘Gentleman Jack’ luxury style in this five-storey Georgian townhouse located in the heart of Whitby that will truly make for a memorable stay on the North Yorkshire coast. With a stunning balcony terrace and bar area on the top floor of this home, you are afforded incredible views over Whitby, stretching all the way to the Abbey, which can be enjoyed as you sip your morning Yorkshire tea or as the sun sets over cocktails at happy hour. 

On the other side of Whitby, you will find narrow medieval streets with boutiques and pubs. Plus, roughly a twelve-minute walk from your door, you can also discover the ruins of Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s classic gothic novel, ‘Dracula’. What’s more, you can even go on a ‘Dracula’ experience, reachable in just six minutes on foot from this home. 

To make the most of your seaside escape, the Blue Flag West Cliff beach, and promenade are just a five-minute walk away. While nestled on the West Cliff, lining Pier Road – which can be reached in eight minutes on foot – you’ll find arcades for hours of fun on rainy days and Whitby’s famous fish restaurants serving the catch of the day because it simply wouldn’t be a beach holiday without fish and chips. 

On sunny evenings, take advantage of the courtyard on the ground floor of this home, and dine alfresco before ending the evening with drinks on the balcony to admire the views one last time. Then curl up on the comfy sofas to relax after an exhausting day of exploring and climbing the famous 199 steps up to the Church of Saint Mary. Finally, slip into the plush bedding and luxury linens to ensure you have a great night's sleep, ready for another day of adventures.

A minute's walk from the front door is a natural spa in which you can book a session and be pampered, while you can also try your hand at various outdoor activities, including archery and axe-throwing. There are even onsite private catering options, just in case you'd like dinner or afternoon tea delivered to your door. 

When it comes to getting to know the local area a little better, you're spoilt for choice when it comes to historic market towns, country parks and walking routes, while Scunthorpe is only a ten-minute drive away when you need shops and restaurants.

Old Mother Nature's Recipes

Whether you’re curled up in front of the log-burning stove or allowing your cares to melt away in the outdoor hot tub, this quaint cottage will wrap you up in a blanket of comfort and calm. The place is charmingly rustic, in keeping with its old granary heritage – think exposed timber beams, low ceilings, wood elements and cosy furnishings. Get to know your neighbours on arrival – your home is situated next to the paddock where Dave the llama and Bob the pony roam and graze. When you’re ready to explore, lace up your walking boots and delve into the surrounding Yorkshire countryside, or head out to York city centre, just a twenty-minute drive away. Shop along the medieval Shambles before checking out the wealth of characterful restaurants, bars and cafes. 

Granary Cottage

Right on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and on the banks of the River Swale, this beautiful home certainly ticks the box for a picturesque setting. From near the house, you’re able to follow walking trails along the river, allowing you to unwind and rejuvenate in the fresh country air. But the home itself also offers plenty of opportunity for peace and quiet. 

Between striking colour choices, plush furniture, captivating art, and an outdoor area that offers sunshine and privacy in equal measure, you can find the space to sit quietly with a cup of coffee, throw your phone aside and enjoy a board game or puzzle, dine together at the beautifully made dining table, and lie in late. Treat yourself to a bubble bath and glass of wine, read in the kitchen nook, get competitive in the games room, and sit out after dark to admire the brightening night sky.   

Supply runs can be made in the little market town, where cobbled streets will lead you past cafes and artisans, with Richmond Castle always looming in the background. Pick up specialty cheeses, crackers and wine to take back for an alfresco cheese board, but not before visiting Richmond Castle and stopping off at the Georgian Sundials on the way back. 

As a Grade II listed building, there is undoubtedly plenty of history between the walls of this restored home, but staying here also gives you the opportunity to make your own.


Olde Stone

With bright living spaces, stylish bedrooms, a glossy high-spec kitchen and sleek bathrooms, this home is as fresh as a spring daisy. Set over three floors, every inch here is cool and contemporary, with plenty of room for a family or group of friends to spread out and get comfortable. We love all the mod-cons – think rainfall showers, a double oven and an EV charger in the driveway – and the private garden is the icing on the cake. Open the bi-fold doors and feel the breeze as you share a meal around the dining table, followed by a game of football in the yard as the sun goes down.

Location-wise, this home is nestled in the village of Briggswath on the cusp of North York Moors National Park. We think this locale offers the best of both worlds. Whether you fancy a delicious pub lunch (there's an excellent inn five minutes away), a country walk (there are miles of trails through the Esk Valley heading towards Grosmont) or a day at the beach (Whitby is less than ten minutes away by car) – there's something for everyone to enjoy in this neck of the woods.
