Sunsets are magical moments from the terrace of this cute little villa for two. Perched on the hillside above the caster-sugar sweep of sand that is Polis Beach, the private patio faces west – so you can catch the golden hour reflecting on the water every evening. There’s a table for dining and drinks out here and a couple of sun loungers to make the most of the rays during the day. The villa itself is pretty in pink, and filled with Greek tradition inside. Think stone-built sofas, terracotta tiles and crisp white walls. A charming medley of darkwood furniture feels old-world. We love the sunny bedroom, with its window out to the bay and double glass doors opening straight onto the terrace.

Follow the private path straight down to Polis Beach, a short stroll away. In the bay, you’ve got a rustic kantina and pier where you can hire a boat for the day. That’s not to mention the horse-shoe of pristine, sandy beach. Heading just along the coast, the town of Frikes is a ten-minute drive away. Or, make your way further into the hills to find the village of Stavros, a five-minute drive or a twenty-five-minute walk (uphill).

Summer in Kefalonia is best spent outdoors. At this particular villa, you'll find landscaped gardens, a private pool, loungers, an alfresco dining area with seating for four people and a balcony that simply calls out for a fresh Greek coffee. Perched on the hillside above a quiet, white-sanded bay, this villa has views for days. From the terrace, you can spot Polis Beach – a horseshoe of pristine sand and crystal water – which you can reach by private path in just a few moments. Down in the bay, you’ve also got a charming stone pier where you can charter a boat for the day. There’s a kantina here serving simple Greek food, or you can make the twenty-five-minute walk (or five-minute drive) to Stavros in the hills for a little more choice. 

It’s all about the terrace here, where the view is simply sublime, especially at sunset. When the sky is tinged powder pink and the water glows, it’s the perfect time to dine at the outdoor table, or just enjoy a tipple or two. Throw open the double doors to let the sea breeze flow into the living room. The dark wood furniture calls back to the good old days and the open-plan living area is a social space. Both bedrooms have direct access to the terrace, so you can step straight out into the morning sun after a good night’s sleep.

Stand on the terrace, gazing out across the Ionian Sea to Meganissi and the mountains of northern Greece and trust us, you’ll understand. Whether you’re dining alfresco or soaking up the sun on a lounger, the view is something you’ll never tire of. You can dip your toes into the coastal waters in a three-minute stroll, or it’s just ten minutes on foot to Frikes with its selection of harbourside tavernas for a bite to eat. 

Calm on the Coast

Wander down to the nearby Fiskardo village from this romantic villa to buy fresh Greek produce, perhaps stopping for a dip in the sea at Foki Beach, a pretty cove backed by lush forest. Dating back to 1878, this home is absolutely brimming with character. Every inch harks back to the past, from exposed stone walls to whitewashed beams on the vaulted ceilings. But don't let that fool you. There are plenty of 21st-century comforts here, too – be it glossy showers or a sleek kitchen filled with all the bits and bobs you'll need to rustle up Grecian feasts.

And don't even get us started on the dazzling views. Pad outside and be greeted by the Ionian Sea sparkling on the horizon and Kefalonia's tree-studded peaks standing proud in the distance. Our favourite spot to admire the scenery? The private pool, where long, lazy afternoons relaxing in the water are a given. You also can't beat the vistas from the balcony or the terrace. But, the cherry on the cake for us here is the outdoor space. With far-reaching views across Fiskardo Bay, it’s impossible not to relax. So, take your pick of places to soak up the Mediterranean sun – the balcony, terrace, or private pool are all waiting. 

Blissful Horizon

It’s just olive trees and the glistening sea for as far as the eye can see from the poolside perch of this characterful villa fringing FIskardo – a blissfully quiet corner of Kefalonia. Inside, while the traditional interiors might not appeal to everyone, you can’t help but swoon at those balconies leading off every bedroom, each with a separate bathroom. Location wise, you’re just a lazy twenty-minute stroll down to the local beach. And even closer, you'll find a family-run taverna for meze plates and a glass of crisp Retsina. After something buzzier? FIskardo’s harbour-side restaurants (just a five-minute drive) are just the ticket.

Set above the picture-perfect coast of northeastern Kefalonia, this home captured our attention at first glance. The views are hard to beat, the rooms are elegant and it’s just a short drive to the beautiful beaches of the coast – the nearest is 1.8km away. You’ll also find the pretty harbour of Fiscardo within easy reach – making this an ideal location from which to explore the island as well as relax in your own private sanctuary. There are two pools (one is shallow for little ones) and a hot tub, plus the terrace has a barbecue for al fresco dining. You’ll also find an adjoining annexe with a small kitchen and two bedrooms – providing plenty of space for groups to stretch out and spend quality time together.

An ideal spot for two couples or a small group of friends, you'll have a private plunge pool, sun loungers and an alfresco dining area from which to enjoy the Kefalonia sunshine. You'll be within easy reach of the local tavernas and supermarkets alongside Foki Beach – all around 2 kilometres away. Plus, the town centre and sandy shores of Fiscardo can be found only a 3.6 kilometre drive away.

One of only three villas to enjoy private access to sandy Polis Beach, this home is a treat indeed. From the hillside vantage point, you’ve got uninterrupted views of the horseshoe bay below, where crystal shallows lap at bone-white sand and boat charters await at the stone harbour. A leisurely twenty-five-minute walk into the hills (or a five-minute drive) sees you in the town of Stavros, where you’ll find a handful of tavernas, cafés and supermarkets. Or, make the ten-minute drive along the coast to Frikes for a bigger selection of places to dine.

While away the days on the terrace, which juts out of the hillside, overlooking the bay. There’s a dining table out here for candle-lit dinners as the sun sets, and a row of loungers to soak up the rays during the day. Inside, we like the old-world touches like the apothecary coffee table and stone-built sofa in true Greek island style. The duck-egg blue kitchen is reminiscent of farmhouse pantries and both bedrooms have double French doors opening up onto the terrace.

With sweeping views across Asos and beyond, this home delivers the ideal setting for a refreshing coastal escape. And while you could spend your days lounging by the pool, this is a great base from which to explore the nearby beaches, coves and picturesque harbour. Guests should note there are lots of steps here, so it may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility, but you will find a lovely terrace and your host can help organise a range of extra services – including excursions and local tours. 

A Beauty's Paradise

Created by the owner’s mother – this elegant villa has a wonderful location. The terrace, surrounded by scented lavender, has panoramic views of the Red Rocks, St. Jerusalem and Alaties beaches. There’s a private pool to cool off in and a gazebo for when you need some shelter from the Greek sun. You can enjoy the vistas from inside too – from the living room, the spacious attic bedroom, which is on a mezzanine above the living space and the another bedroom, which also opens out onto the terrace. With a sweeping panorama taking in Agia Kyriaki and Myrtos bays, this villa up in the hills of Agkonas is the perfect island retreat. Days can be spent by the swimming pool, lying on the flat loungers and taking in the views of mountains and sea. On the first floor, a bamboo pergola shades the outdoor dining area and a hanging chair looks out over the sprawling vista. 

Inside, it’s an industrial-style space of poured concrete and iron railings with a couple of vintage pieces keeping things characterful. There’s plenty of prep space on the concrete worktops in the kitchen and washed wood cabinets feel bespoke. In the master bedroom, the honey-hued stone wall on display sings of old Kefalonia, and the second bedroom has a distinctly Moroccan vibe.

When it comes to exploring the area, you’ll find a mini market within walking distance, and there’s a beautiful, unspoilt local beach a ten-minute drive away with a handful of cafés to choose from.

With one of the best views we've seen on this beautiful island, this newly-built home is an understated slice of magic. Set on a green hillside overlooking the glittering sea, it'll be an effort to do anything but sit and stare when you first arrive.

Part of a small cluster of similar homes, this one stands apart from the others so it's perfect if privacy is high on your agenda. Handbuilt by the owner in a traditional style, there are two floors – each with its own kitchen and independent entrance but linked internally by stairs – so it offers some flexibility. And best of all, there's plenty of outside space to enjoy that view from.
