Perched on the hillside above the caster-sugar sweep of sand that is Polis Beach, the private patio faces west – so you can catch the golden hour reflecting on the water every evening. There’s a table for dining and drinks out here and a couple of sun loungers to make the most of the rays during the day. The villa itself is pretty in pink, and filled with Greek tradition inside. Think stone-built sofas, terracotta tiles and crisp white walls. A charming medley of darkwood furniture feels old-world. We love the sunny bedroom, with its window out to the bay and double glass doors opening straight onto the terrace.

Follow the private path straight down to Polis Beach, a short stroll away. In the bay, you’ve got a rustic kantina and pier where you can hire a boat for the day. That’s not to mention the horse-shoe of pristine, sandy beach. Heading just along the coast, the town of Frikes is a ten-minute drive away. Or, make your way further into the hills to find the village of Stavros, a five-minute drive or a twenty-five-minute walk (uphill).

Dating back to 1878, this home is absolutely brimming with character. Every inch harks back to the past, from exposed stone walls to whitewashed beams on the vaulted ceilings. The fuss-free interiors provide everything needed for a comfortable stay, while outdoors, you’re invited to make the most of the Mediterranean climate. If you’re travelling with little ones, just be aware there are multiple open-sided steps in the outdoor space, so they’ll need to be supervised at all times. That aside, hours of fun are to be had in the private pool or simply soaking up the sun on the terrace.

And while you could spend your days lounging by the pool, this is a great base from which to explore the nearby beaches, coves and picturesque harbour. Guests should note there are lots of steps here, so it may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility, but you will find a lovely terrace and your host can help organise a range of extra services – including excursions and local tours. 

A Beauty's Paradise

Created by the owner’s mother – this elegant villa has a wonderful location. The terrace, surrounded by scented lavender, has panoramic views of the Red Rocks, St. Jerusalem and Alaties beaches. There’s a private pool to cool off in and a gazebo for when you need some shelter from the Greek sun. You can enjoy the vistas from inside too – from the living room, the spacious attic bedroom, which is on a mezzanine above the living space and the another bedroom, which also opens out onto the terrace. When you fancy exploring, attractions nearby include the stunning Myrtos Beach.

The coast of Kefalonia is a rather special spot in the Ionian Sea. From the quaint and colourful villas on the waterside of Sami, to rugged clifftop landscapes with sheer drops to the water, spectacular contrasts make this island stand out from the rest. And just a four-minute drive from ancient Sami, this modern home adds yet another delightful contrast. 

This apartment is set just ten metres away from the sea, but has a truly earthy palette. As you step inside, there's an immediate sense of zen and a grounding feeling from sandy hues, wooden furniture, and wicker decorations. But something else stands out in this organic colour scheme – lime green. A fabulous feature wall and dining chairs create a pop of colour which brightens the space and makes your mouth water for a cold margarita. 

Mix up the cocktails and take them down to the lawn of your garden or the private balcony, where azure waters and leafy trees make up a gorgeous vista. Outside is also where you’ll find the residents’ swimming pool – not a bad place to cool off after a day in the Mediterranean sun.

The setting of this lovely home can’t be beaten. It’s in the village of Asos, between popular Myrtos Beach – a ten-minute drive – and Fiscardo. The villa is on a headland, looking out over Asos Bay. You’ll even have direct access to the clear blue sea, via a steep set of steps. If you’d rather cool off without exerting yourself, you can dive into your private swimming pool – the views from the terrace are wonderful. You’ll need a car to make the most of your stay, but you can reach waterside tavernas on foot. 

Sun Kissed Venus

This delightful apartment can be found just ten metres from the sea in the pretty village of Karavomylos. It’s one of a series of quiet, peaceful apartments, perfect for those longing for a restful visit to Greece – this isn’t party central.

You’ll likely spend your days at the beach, swimming in the clear water and soaking up the sunshine. It’s a two-minute walk from the apartment so you can sleep in and still nab a sun lounger at the shore. Stroll along the seafront and choose a taverna to pop into for lunch – as you’re on an island you really ought to sample some of the fresh seafood. 

The crown jewel of this village is Melissani Cave, a natural wonder just five minutes from the apartment. Boats take you into the cave, which has a hidden lake and forest inside – it makes for a romantic outing. 

The town of Assos is thirty-two minutes away, and it’s well worth the car journey. Wandering around the cobbled streets and admiring the colourful houses is a delightful way to spend a day, especially with an ice cream in hand. 

Returning to the apartment after busy days in the sun feels like returning home. Open a bottle of wine to sip together in the garden as the sun sinks in the sky.

With a sweeping panorama taking in Agia Kyriaki and Myrtos bays, this villa up in the hills of Agkonas is the perfect island retreat. Days can be spent by the swimming pool, lying on the flat loungers and taking in the views of mountains and sea. On the first floor, a bamboo pergola shades the outdoor dining area and a hanging chair looks out over the sprawling vista. 

Inside, it’s an industrial-style space of poured concrete and iron railings with a couple of vintage pieces keeping things characterful. There’s plenty of prep space on the concrete worktops in the kitchen and washed wood cabinets feel bespoke. In the master bedroom, the honey-hued stone wall on display sings of old Kefalonia, and the second bedroom has a distinctly Moroccan vibe.

When it comes to exploring the area, you’ll find a mini market within walking distance, and there’s a beautiful, unspoilt local beach a ten-minute drive away with a handful of cafés to choose from.

Perched on the hillside above a quiet, white-sanded bay, this villa has views for days. From the terrace, you can spot Polis Beach – a horseshoe of pristine sand and crystal water – which you can reach by private path in just a few moments. Down in the bay, you’ve also got a charming stone pier where you can charter a boat for the day. There’s a kantina here serving simple Greek food, or you can make the twenty-five-minute walk (or five-minute drive) to Stavros in the hills for a little more choice. 

It’s all about the terrace here, where the view is simply sublime, especially at sunset. When the sky is tinged powder pink and the water glows, it’s the perfect time to dine at the outdoor table, or just enjoy a tipple or two. Throw open the double doors to let the sea breeze flow into the living room. The dark wood furniture calls back to the good old days and the open-plan living area is a social space. Both bedrooms have direct access to the terrace, so you can step straight out into the morning sun after a good night’s sleep.

If you're keen to explore this stunning island but you're more interested in nature trails than tourist resorts, this magical home is aimed squarely at lovers of the great outdoors. Whether you're here to hike, explore the island by bike or just take it easy by the private pool, you'll find this place the perfect base. Set just metres away from the famous cypress forest trail, unspoilt beauty surrounds you.

Here you'll be tucked away in the village of Tselendata – a traditional, quiet spot that's a real slice of authentic Kefalonia – and just a five-minute drive away is the pretty harbour of Fiscardo, where you can watch the coming and goings of the private yachts and fishing boats.

Freshly renovated, this stone villa mixes old and new, with typical village architecture, blue shutters and two terraces looking out over the trees. And somewhere in between the two, Melissani Cave offers a tranquil lake inside a rocky cavern which you simply cannot miss – which shouldn’t be too difficult, at just an eight-minute stroll from this apartment.

In the village of Karavomylos, this charming home also offers views of the Ionian Sea, ten metres from the water’s edge. If you can drag yourself away from these vistas by the glass sliding doors in the lounge, it’s worth taking a look at the elegant decor. Blushing tones of orange and muted reds create a welcoming and warm vibe, inviting you to sink into the plump sofa with a glass of fresh fruit juice in the morning. With wooden and woven elements peppered throughout, the home stays true to the natural splendour of the island.

As you step out to your leafy, private terrace for a bowl of olives before dinner, you can also look out to the residents’ pool below. Or an alternative would be to head to our favourite spot – the secluded, peach-coloured courtyard. Sip cocktails on the armchairs beneath the lush, green foliage surrounding this cute terrace.

We think you’ll do most of your socialising outside, thanks to the summer kitchen and private infinity pool. Loungers provide views of mountains and olive groves, and the covered terrace is the ideal spot for cocktails. The interiors are straightforward yet comfortable, with each double bedroom having its own en-suite and private outdoor space. Just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll find beautiful beaches, traditional tavernas and bars in and around Lourdas village.

By choosing this abode, you're perfectly placed to explore the best of the island. Assos, a picturesque paintbox village, is within easy reach. Spend the day and visit the crumbling Venetian castle, built in the 16th century to protect against pirates. Even closer to home, you'll find the tiny Fiscardo. This quaint fishing community is a worthy pit-stop if you're in the mood for fresh seafood or a boat trip around the island.

This lovely apartment has home-away-from-home charm in spades. If you’re planning a romantic visit to Kefalonia and want somewhere cosy and attractive to return to each day, you can’t do better than this apartment. 

The apartment is mere metres from the sea, so the balcony offers lovely views. Watch boats bobbing in the water while you eat your breakfast al fresco – the distant mountains make a beautiful backdrop. This is such a pretty part of Greece – we’d definitely be heading out on day trips to make the most of the location. 

Myrtos Beach, which featured in the film version of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, is twenty-five minutes away by car, with its dramatic stretch of white pebbles and beautifully blue water. Of course, there’s a beach just two minutes away from the apartment so you can paddle any time. 

The magical Melissani Cave is just five minutes away on foot, in Karavomylos. After taking a boat trip through the cave to discover the lake and forest within, meander through the village. Pop into a taverna for some meze and a cocktail or two – sit outside so you can watch the sunset over the sea. This place is perfect for romance.

After waking up with the sun on your pillow, take your coffee to the balcony to start your day slowly – you’re on island time now, after all. Beautiful Assos is thirty-two minutes away by car, and well worth the trip. The town is known for its colourful houses, traditional architecture, and the ruins of a Venetian castle. It’s one of the most picturesque spots on Kefalonia, so make a day of it – there are countless attractive spots for a sunset meal and cocktail.

The views are hard to beat, the rooms are elegant and it’s just a short drive to the beautiful beaches of the coast – the nearest is 1.8km away. You’ll also find the pretty harbour of Fiscardo within easy reach – making this an ideal location from which to explore the island as well as relax in your own private sanctuary. There are two pools (one is shallow for little ones) and a hot tub, plus the terrace has a barbecue for al fresco dining. You’ll also find an adjoining annexe with a small kitchen and two bedrooms – providing plenty of space for groups to stretch out and spend quality time together.

If visiting an ancient village and boating across a crystal-clear lake sounds like your sort of afternoon, this coastal landscape of Kefalonia might fit the bill. Just a four-minute drive from the town of Sami, and an eight-minute walk from the sapphire waters of Melissani Cave, this luxe apartment offers a base where you can brush the sand off your feet and let your swimwear dry for the day ahead.

Merging into the organic scenery of this island, the home offers a calming decor of sandy tones, reminiscent of nearby beaches. Wicker and wood furniture add to this natural vibe, which continues from the dining space into the bedrooms. One of only three villas to enjoy private access to sandy Polis Beach, this home is a treat indeed. From the hillside vantage point, you’ve got uninterrupted views of the horseshoe bay below, where crystal shallows lap at bone-white sand and boat charters await at the stone harbour. A leisurely twenty-five-minute walk into the hills (or a five-minute drive) sees you in the town of Stavros, where you’ll find a handful of tavernas, cafés and supermarkets. Or, make the ten-minute drive along the coast to Frikes for a bigger selection of places to dine.

While away the days on the terrace, which juts out of the hillside, overlooking the bay. There’s a dining table out here for candle-lit dinners as the sun sets, and a row of loungers to soak up the rays during the day. Inside, we like the old-world touches like the apothecary coffee table and stone-built sofa in true Greek island style. The duck-egg blue kitchen is reminiscent of farmhouse pantries and both bedrooms have double French doors opening up onto the terrace.

History lovers can head to the Archaeological Museum of Kefalonia, which houses treasures from the Mycenaean, Hellenistic and the Roman period. The iconic Lighthouse of Saint Theodore is situated a couple of kilometres away from Argostoli and is also well worth visiting.

The view from this home in an elevated position just north of Skala is to die for. The glittering sea extends right across your field of vision from the enormous terrace, with a glass safety barrier so absolutely nothing interferes with your view. Out here, which is where we think you'll spend most of your time, you'll be able to relax on the sun loungers, sip drinks on the sofas and eat at the table under the stars. And just when you think this outside space couldn't get any better, there's a beautiful private pool too, with hydrotherapy and swim-against-the-stream settings.

Inside, it's a fully modernised villa that has maintained some of its character features – so expect a glossy new kitchen and fabulous new bathrooms, along with a pretty fireplace in the open-plan living space and vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms.
