With sweeping views from almost anywhere, you find yourself in the home, gaze out at the blue waters of the Mediterranean and let your thoughts float away to the rhythm of the waves lapping into the shore. Ideally situated for swimming, snorkelling (with the villa's snorkelling equipment), sunbathing, surfing, and other water sports, from here, you'll be just a five-minute walk away from the nearest pebbled beach with an array of bars and eateries. Meanwhile, many other sandy beaches can be reached within ten to fifteen minutes' driving distance. 

Designed to accommodate the discerning traveller, this villa located in the quiet agricultural village of Koutsouras incorporates the refreshing use of natural eco-friendly materials through its designs. With an abundance of home amenities here, you'll never be short of things to do. Whether you are swimming in the pool, relaxing at one of the many indoor and outdoor seating areas – notably out on the pool inflatables, sun loungers, hammock or shaded loungers under the tamarack trees. Not a minute will pass you by without getting to enjoy the panoramic sea views that surround you. Due to the villa's southwestern outlook, sunset views are also equally beautiful. There'll be no need to go inside to the kitchen when grabbing a drink to enjoy over the sunset as the pool bar is equipped with an ice maker, coffee machine, fridge and sink for your convenience. After dark, when the sparkling moonlit sky lights upon the horizon, take the opportunity to do some stargazing through the telescope. 

Since you'll be stationed just off a bike path, why not use the villa's bicycles which allow guests to explore the island on two wheels. Cycle over to the tourist town of Makry Gialos, where you'll find plenty of bars, restaurants and boutiques to explore, just 2 kilometres away. Also situated within very close distance is a spot in front of the villa, which permits a prime location for fishing – with the use of the villa's fishing rods, why not have a go at catching some fresh fish to grill up on the barbecue?

This lovely family-friendly home can be found in a pretty seaside village. The area isn’t quite as touristy as other parts of Crete, so you can appreciate the authenticity and natural beauty of the place while getting your R&R. 

The villa is bright and cheerful, with plenty of room for you and your guests. You’re within strolling distance of bakeries, supermarkets and coffee shops, so we recommend you start your day with pastries and coffee on one of the balconies. The outside space here is plentiful and attractive, with seating for everyone. Rock gently in a hammock, or sit in a wicker chair and take in the view of the olive grove below. 

Trees surrounding the property ensure that it’s not overlooked, so you can float in the pool or laze in the sunshine in peace. If you do fancy a little more action though, you need only walk four minutes to reach the beach. Beautiful Paralia Koutsouras is a swimming beach with calm, clear water and pretty pebbles. There are beachside restaurants and cafes so you can really make a day of it. 

When you’ve had your fill of swimming, snorkelling or snoozing in the sunshine, meander back to the villa to enjoy a soak in the tub. Order food in from a local restaurant or get to work on the barbecue. Sitting up late at the alfresco dining table is the best way to end your day.

Amidst the mature garden featuring pine trees providing shaded refuge from the sun – relax by the swimming pool on the day beds or perched in one of the egg chair swings with a refreshing drink in hand. Breathe in the sweet air fragranced by the fresh flowers, Cretan herbs and fruit trees dotted around the garden. 

Inside, bold pops of colour seen through the furnishings and artwork create a vibrant space to kick back in after a day on the beach (a four-minute walk away). With en-suite bathrooms in each of the bedrooms, guests can enjoy their own slice of privacy for blissful moments of solitude if needed too. 





A Place Beyond the Pines

What's better than one luxury villa? We think two luxury villas. This plot in the east of Crete is composed of twin homes, each with their own living areas, meaning there's plenty of room for groups of friends or families who want their own space. 

Inside, these houses have a welcoming, homely feel – look out for the antique furnishings that have been passed down in the host's family for generations. Some of the bedrooms have their own access to balconies and patios, where you can enjoy your morning coffee in perfect peace. Head out to the main outdoor space, and you'll find a glittering swimming pool where you can cool off from the heat, along with a hot tub, hammocks, and plenty of sun loungers. And, when you get thirsty, simply pick some fresh lemons from one of the trees in the garden to garnish your drink.  

The water's edge is just 100m away from here, and there's a second beach just four minutes' walk away which is ideal for swimming. You'll also find a selection of restaurants and tavernas nearby for when you need to refuel. If you have a car, we recommend spending a day exploring Crete's stunning coastline, stopping off at the little harbour villages along the way. Or, head inland and hike through the Dikti Mountains – jaw-dropping views are guaranteed.

We're paraphrasing slightly, but we believe they say that when life gives you a stone villa in the south of Crete complete with a lemon tree growing in the back garden, make lemonade. Well, that's just one of the ways to pass your time here. The spa pool in the middle of the outdoor space is pretty inviting, as is the lounge area and hammock found underneath the grape-vine-covered pergola.

The inside of the home has plenty of distractions, too. There's another Jacuzzi tub in one of the bathrooms should the weather be a little too cold to relax outside — in which case, the fireplace will be a welcome presence too. Although the address has been renovated in recent years, there are still traces of history to be found, from a handmade wooden bed dating back to the fifties, plus curtains and bed covers hand-loomed by the host's great aunt.

You can be standing on the beach — Paralia Koutsourus, to be exact — in two minutes' walk and there are further options along this stretch of coastline. The Dasaki Schlucht hiking area can be reached in six minutes' drive, but there are plenty of tavernas and restaurants in the local area if that sounds a little too active for your tastes.

Homespun and unfussy, this stone villa is the ideal place for relaxing with your loved ones – that is, when you’re not stretched out on the shores of Istron Bay (less than a ten-minute stroll from your doorstep).

Cook up traditional Cretan cuisine in the farmhouse-style kitchen, then serve at the outdoor dining table on the flagstone terrace. While away the hours in the pool or from the comfort of a lounger – the south-facing position of the abode means you get sunshine all day long. 

The quiet bedrooms demand cat naps in the afternoon but if you’re itching to explore, the nearby hotel has a variety of amenities to keep the whole family busy. Practice your drop shot on the tennis courts as the little ones let off some steam in the children’s club. Retreat to your pad in the evening for a glass of wine alfresco as the sky turns pink.

We were sold when we first saw this home's panoramic sea views – and we're pretty sure you will be, too. Perched on the hillside, just outside the sought-after resort town of Agios Nikolaos, this villa is all about rest and relaxation. Admiring the stunning vistas across Mirabello bay, the islet of Agioi Pandes and the Sitia mountains is likely to be at the top of your agenda – whether you're enjoying the infinity pool, sun terrace or alfresco dining area. This stunning villa immediately made us want to pack our bags and go. It hits the nail on the head when it comes to an unforgettable holiday – from a private pool and hot tubs to beautiful living spaces with sea views. We love the little touches, like a welcome basket upon arrival or the telescopes in the home for late-night stargazing. While these are all enough reasons to stay put, the beach is right on your doorstep and restaurants, cafes and bars are only a stroll down the road.

The huge outdoor space at this contemporary villa caught our eye. There’s a well-kept lawn, a heated pool, hammocks and a shady dining area to enjoy, all with fantastic sea views. Inside, the open plan areas have been designed to let in lots of natural light and the decor is simple yet stylish. There’s even a private sauna here, which you don’t find in many Greek villas. And when you’re ready to explore, the nearest beach is within walking distance and the buzzing town of Heraklion is just a short drive away.

Overlooking the garden and situated footsteps from Almyros Beach, this comfortable suite provides rest and relaxation for a couple or solo traveller. Fully staffed with a maid, chef and a team of gardeners, you need not lift a finger but keen cooks will enjoy getting to grips with the well-equipped kitchen and the barbecue, or just head into town for a meal at one of the many excellent restaurants. Just be sure to be back in time to see the sunset over the sea from your garden – it's really something special.

At first glance, this villa perched on top of a Cretan cliff is an architectural marvel, but the most impressive aspects lie beyond its appearance. The architects behind the project used ecologically sensitive practices during construction, from natural paints and installing energy-efficient fittings to choosing sustainably sourced stone.

This should give you a sense of quiet satisfaction while you wind back and relax here, which is remarkably easy to do. The infinity pool has glorious views of Mirabello Bay, as well as cascading waterfalls and a Jacuzzi. After a dip, there are numerous terraces on which to take a breather, including a pergola with a barbecue underneath if you're feeling a little peckish.

In this corner of western Crete, you're not only spoiled for beaches, but history abounds in this area — the nearby island of Spinalonga can be reached by boat from Elounda and has an impressive fortress from its time under Venetian occupation.
