Perched right in front of the sea and offering views of Messinian Bay, this apartment delivers on location. Exploring Kalamata on foot is easy, with local taverns, restaurants, and bars within easy reach. The beach and port are also just across the street. Back home, you can rest your feet in the modern living space. Although the lofted main bedroom is comfortable and contemporary, it isn't the most private since it overlooks the lounge. Guests five and six will also be sleeping on a sofa bed, so we think it's best for shorter trips. Overall, the home lacks some creature comforts – including a washing machine and proper air conditioning – but it's a convenient place to unwind between adventures.

The whitewashed interior is instantly calming upon entrance and follows a minimalist approach to design. What few driftwood decorations and framed pictures there are do add a rustic charm. We should mention that the kitchen is certainly on the smaller side, but there's everything there needed to cook the group a hearty dinner. 

Although there's a table inside, there's another out on the terrace outside from which the locale's tranquillity can be truly appreciated. The invitingly blue outdoor swimming pool shared between all of the onsite villas is an equally pleasant spot to do this from, too.

When you fancy reentering civilisation, Mavrovouni Beach takes all of five minutes to reach in the car and the coastal town of Methoni is a twelve-minute drive when you're after restaurants and markets.

This pretty stone villa overlooks the ocean on the idyllic island of Zakynthos. It’s a leisurely twenty-minute stroll to the beach at Kaminia or an easy four-minute drive. If you fancy a night on the town, Zakynthos Town buzzes to life after sunset and is just a ten-minute drive away.

Back at the villa you’ve got plenty to keep you occupied. Like the glittering swimming pool on the huge terrace looking out over the Aegean. Our favourite spot out here has to be the suspended day bed, swathed with curtains. A ground-floor apartment in a small, exclusive villa complex of just four homes, this colourful place read all the rule books about Greek all-white interiors – and then tore them up. Definitely not one for fans of minimalism, its traditional interior features a fireplace and tiled floors, while its walls, kitchen units, doors and window frames are all painted in a rainbow of different colours and paint effects – an artist's paradise. Not only can you catch a glimpse of the clear blue sea, but the village's famous 13th-century castle and the island of Sapienza are also on the horizon. It's the perfect place to toast your holiday with a glass of wine from the welcome basket and watch the glorious sunsets. Meanwhile, afternoons are best spent floating in the crystal clear pool and dining alfresco on the patio – if some fun in the sun is what you're after, you can't do much better.
