This monochrome delight in the centre of Thessaloniki first caught our attention with its cool and consistent colour scheme. We especially love the sleek black kitchen, ideal for the budding chefs in the group, and the balcony with its view of the local area. Unfortunately, there isn't enough sofa space for everyone in the living room, but the home's excellent location means you'll have plenty of excuses to head out – you'll find a myriad of parks, museums and restaurants just a short stroll away.

The abode is located in a complex with three other villas in close proximity, so there may be little privacy. Inside, space is tight for a group of ten, so the place is better suited for those who like to spend their time in the sunshine. Outside, there’s a pool and a well-kept garden with a terrace for both dining and relaxing.

Where the Aegean Sea laps the shores, this tiny complex of homes has a special feature that almost trumps your private pool  – a private beach. From dipping your toes in the warm waters, it’s less than a minute back to your three-floored, modern villa. From an elegant exterior of white walls and wooden panels, olive trees and lush lawns surround this 21st-century palace, letting nature in through enormous glass doors and windows. 

Step in from the garden with a chilled glass of local wine in hand, to admire the fresh, minimalist decor in the living space. Its colour scheme of beige, cream, and wooden features creates a zen-like atmosphere, continuing up the spiral staircase and into every bedroom. And from up on these tranquil balconies, you can survey your kingdom of seas, mountains, islands, and beaches beyond.

This delightful villa is part of a complex of eight homes in the beautiful village of Hanioti. There are shared facilities including a gym and indoor pool, but you’ll also have your own outdoor pool and garden to enjoy. The neighbouring villas are fairly close to this home so it’s not entirely private, but you’ll have everything you need for a comfortable stay in Greece. The best feature of this villa is undoubtedly the view – you’ll likely spend all of your time gazing out to sea here. If you can tear your gaze away, the nearest beach is just five minutes away. 

Luxury in the Hills

Close to the Church of Holy Apostles, this cosy apartment makes for the perfect base for exploring Thessaloniki. Though the kitchenette is small, it does have all of the key appliances needed to whip up a home-cooked meal, though we’d recommend sampling some of the local eateries. Featuring a double bedroom and a single sofa bed, we think this home is best suited to a couple looking for a romantic break or a small family. Paid parking is available close to the apartment, but with so many bus stops close by it’s easy to get around the city on public transport. 

Greek Oasis

In Nea Skioni, Halkidiki, this villa is just 50 metres from the nearest sandy beach. It’s a short walk into the coastal town, where you’ll find seafood restaurants and family-run tavernas galore. Days can be spent by the poolside, or indulging in long, lazy lunches on the terrace outdoors with the sea shimmering in the distance. Although it’s one of four similar maisonettes within a holiday complex, the traditional Greek touches inside – a stone fireplace and beachy bric-a-brac on the open-plan living area – save it from feeling generic.  

Paradise on a Hill

This modern apartment is a fuss-free base to return to after days spent exploring sun-soaked Thessaloniki. We recommend hiring a car if you want to visit the beach or attractions such as the Church of Saint Paul and the White Tower. You will, however, find restaurants close by, which is handy, as the kitchen here is only suitable for light bites. The home also features a private balcony for enjoying a cup of coffee, and the pared-back bedroom is plenty comfortable.

You’ll find this home in the heart of Thessaloniki, making it a perfect base for exploring the city. Though not the biggest, this is a comfortable home for four guests and the balcony is a nice touch, offering a sunny spot for your morning coffee. Parking can be tricky and you’ll need to pay in the city centre, but transport links are just five minutes away at Aristotelous Square, and with local amenities and sights within walking distance of the apartment, we’d recommend exploring on foot.

Located in beautiful Halkidiki, this villa is ideal for a large family looking to spend time together surrounded by nature and with the beach within a short walk. Its modern interiors of clean lines and an expansive garden shaded by ancient pines make this home conducive to switching off from the rest of the world. Lie on one of the decadent loungers by the large private pool, or chill out in the fabulous sunken Jacuzzi. Children can tire themselves out on the basketball court and enjoy a movie on the full HD 150” projector. If this home offers something above all else, it's views. Out front, you can gaze out over the Aegean Sea, while the terrace behind faces out toward the imposing Mount Olympus. But it doesn't just have views – a seven-minute stroll will take you to Fourka beach, while the restaurants and bars of Fourka village are even closer. Back at home, the large garden, while rather empty, is perfect for family football games. Let the kids tire themselves out before bed, and then enjoy the sunset views peacefully from the outdoor seating area.

Home on the Green

A short stroll from the cobbled streets, bars, eateries and shops of Ladadika, this home serves as a practical base for exploring Thessaloniki. With the sleeping arrangements including a sofa bed, we think this home is better suited to families. While the home might be a little cramped at full capacity, the balcony makes for a great spot to spend golden hour, and you've got everything you need here for an extended stay, including a washing machine. Outside, you'll find yourself a short stroll from the shoreline.

Seized at Sea

Situated on the sublime Diaporos Island, surrounded by white sand beaches and impossibly blue water, this perfectly positioned villa is ideal for families or friends looking to spend quality time together.

Floor-to-ceiling windows not only illuminate the ocean-inspired interiors but also provide panoramas of craggy coves and glimpses of the mythical Mount Athos. When you’re not lolling about in the sitting rooms or stealing a moment to yourself with a good book in the private studio, you’ll be out on the sprawling terrace, soaking up every last drop of the Grecian sunshine. 

Float about in the pristine pool, watch the world pass by from the balcony and lounge on the daybed with an ice-cold drink in hand. When it’s time to eat, call upon the private chef to cook up something tasty and feast together under the pergola. 

In the afternoon, take a stroll around the unspoilt islet. Snorkel in the Blue Lagoon, a five-minute walk away or stretch out on the pristine shores of Myrsini Beach. If you’re keen to explore a little further afield, charter a boat and sail to the town of Vourvourou.

You'll find this apartment in the heart of Thessaloniki. Restaurants on your doorstep, landmarks within walking distance, the sea only a short stroll away – how's that for a top-notch location? The apartment itself isn't bad, either. We like the jungle themed-design, and although some rooms are a little dated (namely the bathroom), there's a decent amount of space here for families and friends. But our favourite is the small balcony overlooking the street – it's the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine in the salt-tinged air.

Grecian Jungle

With history and nature at every turn, Greece’s Halkidiki region offers a wealth of activities in its turquoise waters and lush greenery. One of its ancient villages, Ouranoupoli, is surrounded by a thick forest on one side, and a fantastic beach on the other for swimming and fishing. Visit its Byzantine Tower before taking a cruise to Mount Athos – but don't worry, this will all come easily when your villa is a six-minute drive away.

Modern, angular, and with fantastic use of glass, the exterior doesn't quite have the whitewashed walls and blue tiles you might be expecting. As you approach, you’ll pass over a well-kept lawn (perfect for picnics) and stone patio on the way to your heated plunge pool. It's certainly worth pausing here for a second while you pour a glass of wine at the alfresco dining terrace and admire the views of Ammouliani Island.

When you’re ready to head indoors, modernity awaits yet again. We love the sliding doors where you can enter into a bright, sophisticated sitting room. With a wicker armchair and soft flowing curtains, this space has a zen-like quality that you’ll truly come to appreciate after a long day out hiking these striking landscapes.

Small but perfectly formed, this Thessaloniki home sits in a prestigious spot in the very heart of the city, so it's a fantastic choice for those who want to live like a local and be within walking distance of all the best sights and spots. It's a studio apartment, so it's on the cramped side – but it's ideal for an adventurous couple or solo traveller. The host has arranged the home in a clever way, to maximise every inch of space, so you'll find you have everything you need for an easy stay.

Cool Cocoon

Set in a boutique complex with lavish community spaces, Sirtaki is for guests who do not hold back on a luxurious holiday. With sweeping views of the Toroneos Bay toward Mount Athos from your private pool and ample decadence in the high-spec kitchen and well-fitted bathrooms, it can be a challenge to leave the home. But when in Halkidiki, you must explore the stunning beaches (some of which you can walk to) and peninsulas. We happen to be a tad bit partial to Chroussou, a pine clad beach that is a favourite with children and lovers of classy nightlife alike-at walking distance as well. Be it snorkelling, boat trips or simply swimming in clear waters, you have the perfect home to come back to.
