This villa grabbed our attention for its spectacular views of the Ionian Sea. Best appreciated from the poolside – where you can watch the sunset over the water – each room inside also has sea views. Add to this an infinity lap pool, a shaded alfresco dining area, and direct access to a rocky beach, and you have all the ingredients for a memorable holiday. Located on the island of Paxos, which is only 10 kilometres by three kilometres, nothing is far away here. We recommend hiring a car to visit the island’s three villages, Gaios, Loggos, and Lakka, and discover some of the many swimming coves along the coast.

When it's time to soak up island life, follow the ancient goat paths to your local beach, just five minutes downhill. Hop in the car to the sleepy village of Fontana with its authentic tavernas (just a five-minute drive away) or, just a smidge further, Loggos (a ten-minute drive). Its café bars, shops and boat hirers for a jaunt along the glistening bays is an afternoon well spent.

Cloaked in stone walls and wooden shutters, this secluded Paxos pad offers sweeping coastal views in an idyllic location. The villa is spread across three levels and boasts a triad of spacious bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen - coffee machine included - and a cosy lounge. 

Inside, neutral tones and natural materials complement the modern decor, while shaded balconies perched on every level invite you to marvel at the beautiful surroundings. We have a particular soft spot for the first-level veranda, home to an outdoor dining terrace and dressed to the nines with vibrant bougainvillaea and a jasmine tree. Here, you can gaze out to the nearby island of Panayia whilst sipping on your morning espresso, shaded from the Paxos sun by the wood and canvas pergola. 

For us, the real highlight is the villa's mosaic-tiled infinity pool overlooking the sea, nestled in a fortress of stone walls and olive trees. Also at ground level is a portable barbecue, minibar and covered drinks patio - perfect for sipping on champagne at sunset.

Just a fifteen-minute walk away is the charming fishing port of Gaios, the largest town in Paxos, home to waterfront tavernas and a bustling square of restaurants and shops. There are also two pebble beaches, reachable within five minutes on foot.

With a great hillside location close to the east coastline of Paxos, this villa has superb views of the bright blue sea and the Greek mainland on the very distant horizon.

Even just reading those words will tell you that it's an idyllic backdrop that makes it easier than ever to relax. Lazy afternoons can be spent gliding through the swimming pool, catching some rays on one of the loungers or seeking some shady respite under the woven-roofed verandah.

Inside, the array of glass doors and windows means that the Mediterranean sunshine is invited inside, too. We're big fans of the contemporary design, which puts emphasis on a soothing colour palette of greys and whites, as well as clean lines and industrial-chic lighting.

When you fancy a change of scenery, the nearest beach — Paralia Kamini — takes less than ten minutes to reach on foot, while there are shops and restaurants aplenty in the port town of Gaios, twenty-five minutes' walk away.

The beautiful island of Paxos is one of the quietest and most authentic in this group of islands and was said to have been created by Poseidon as a romantic retreat for his mistress. It's no surprise then it attracts those hoping to get off the beaten track and spend some quality time together – and this home near the main town of Gaios is the perfect spot to do just that. One of a pair of villas on this elevated plot, it looks out across the lush green island to the blue Ionian Sea. Surrounded by ancient olive trees, scented lemon trees and bougainvillaeas, it's Greece at its wild, natural best. 

The home is built for comfort and ease, with more than a hint of romance about the place. There's a cool, comfortable open layout to the living space, with modern sofas to lounge on, a central fireplace for winter stays and a place to sit and eat indoors. But we think you'll be rustling up meals, either in the kitchen or on the barbecue, to be eaten alfresco on the wonderful dining terrace to the side. From this shady spot, you can take in views of the pool and the sea while you feast on fresh local bread and fruit. 

By day, swim in the pool to your heart's content or walk downhill to the nearby beach, walk along the rocky coast or explore further afield by car – there are some stunning beaches to found on this small island. This villa caught our eye for its stunning sea views over Avlaki Bay. Surrounded on three sides by a small forest of pine and cypress trees, it’s in a peaceful spot, yet only a five-minute drive to the beaches, tavernas, and shops in Gaios. There are outdoor spaces aplenty here, with an infinity pool, a comfy seating area, terraces, and balconies to enjoy. And with Paxi being a small island – only 3 miles by 7 – everything it has to offer is within easy reach.

The Ionian Oasis

This home built on Paxos – the smallest of the seven principal Ionian islands of Greece – is made up of two separate villas allowing for privacy if needed. Each villa has its own private infinity pool that overlooks the stunning Ionian ocean. Spend quiet days lounging in the Greek sun before cooling off in the pool’s waters and swimming to the edge where it meets the ocean to enjoy the painting-like vistas.

Olive trees, lemon trees, jasmine plants, and blossoming fuchsia bougainvilleas surround the home proving a serene garden to relax in. Plus, from the bedroom balcony on the upper floor, you can start each morning right, gazing out past the greenery to the turquoise seas.

Beach days are close by to this villa with the beautiful sandy Plake’s beach a short eight-minute walk away. While Gaios Town, the island’s main port, is only a four-minute drive away. Here, you can visit the statue of Georgios Anemogiannis or see the Tripitos Arch – a naturally formed rock structure that is part of a collapsed sea cave. We suggest seeing Tripitos Arch at sunrise or sunset for the very best views.

Beautiful Lakkos Beach is ten minutes on foot or just under two minutes in the car, while Orkos Beach, backed by olive and cypress trees, is a few minutes more.

Then, as the sun paints the sky in balmy hues of pink and orange, gather around the alfresco dining area for a home-cooked meal and the evening's cooler temperatures. Come late evening time, the laid-back vibe of the villa's interior, adorned in beachy designs and a soothing white and beige colour palette, invites you to unwind and drift off to sleep in utter comfort.

Old meets new in the most glorious fashion at this lovingly-restored Paxiot stone cottage perched high in the hillsides yet just a five-minute drive from the postcard-pretty shores and harbour of Lakka.

Nestled within olive groves as ancient as the hills surrounding them, the setting of this villa couldn’t feel more secluded. But when you’re ready to dip your toes into island life, the bustling authentic tavernas of Lakka are an easy twenty-minute downhill stroll – though perhaps a little longer uphill when tummies are full. And just a smidge further, you'll find the pretty harbours and beaches of Loggos and Gaios should you fancy a change of scene.

Back home, this cottage has charm and character in spades, with lofty, vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls and fresh, crisp white interiors uniting the space. But it’s outside beside the stunning pool fringed with fragrant, mature gardens where we think you’ll be spending most of your time. Sunny mornings (of which there will be many) begin beneath that shady terrace for lazy breakfasts (mimosa, anyone?) before hopping between the sun-kissed terraces and that cool blue pool. And don’t even get us started on the fiery Paxos sunsets from here – alfresco dining never looked so good.

Beneath the Olive Tree

This charming Paxos villa is styled like an old mill, with a stone facade and round turret housing the bedrooms. The highlight has to be the Roman-style infinity pool which looks out over the hillside to the sparkling sea beyond. The stone patio feels typically Greek with urns sprouting pot plants and crickets clicking away in the olive grove that surrounds it. Spend days lying on a lounger, or firing up the barbecue for lunch in the shade. 

Two double doors lead to the living room, which is a big, open space alongside the kitchen and dining area. Pristine white sofas match the walls, and a brick fireplace can offer the tonic to chilly evenings. The distressed green cabinets in the kitchen feel suitably rustic and beachy, given the location. It’s just a five-minute drive to the nearest sandy beach and there’s a traditional taverna an eight-minute walk away.

We were charmed from the minute we clapped eyes on the dazzling sea vistas and countless sun-kissed terraces of this newly renovated villa. Perched high in the hillsides of Paxos and just a five-minute drive from the laid-back shores and authentic tavernas of Gaios, it's a postcard-perfect setting.

Sunny mornings call for bobbing about that glorious infinity pool surrounded by fragrant mature gardens. Then get together beneath the shade of the pergola for a lazy tapas lunch and drink up the shimmering sea views (and perhaps a glass of crisp retsina). If you fancy a post-lunch slumber with a good book (who wouldn't?), there are so many quiet seating nooks we've frankly lost count. Or take things inside to the light-filled living room united by breeze-fresh interiors and crash out on the modular sofa – those sea views will still be right there with you. While over in the three restful bedrooms bringing all the chic beach-house style, each room is as serene and immaculate as the next and all offer en-suite bathrooms for an added sense of privacy.

Postcard from Paxos

You’ll find this studio apartment in the heart of Gaios and within walking distance of Plakes Beach. It’s worth noting the central location may be too lively for those seeking peace and quiet, especially during the high season. Outside, there’s a small courtyard garden for enjoying a morning coffee and a roof terrace for watching the fishermen land their catch. Head inside, and you’ll find everything you need to feel right at home, including a well-appointed kitchen – not that we think you’ll use it much when there are tavernas right on your doorstep.

This villa boasts a stunning hillside location on the Ionian island of Paxos. The views from the terrace are breathtaking and can be enjoyed as you swim in the private pool and dine under the pergola – there’s also a grill when you feel like a barbecue night. While the interiors are fairly basic, they're inviting and practical for a coastal retreat. You’ll need a car to best explore the island, but there is private parking here. Kipos Beach is just a 2-kilometre drive away, and the Blue Caves lie just beyond. Closer to home, the traditional villages of Gaios, Lakka, and Loggos are charming options for day trips. 

Paxoi Paradise

Nestled on the hillside and only a short drive away from the beach, Gaios village and Loggos, this beautifully restored home isn’t just well connected, it’s completely charming too. Inside, under exposed beams, you’ll find a neutral colour palette and furnishings that work to create a homely atmosphere. We bet you can already see yourself in this living space, curled up with a good cup of coffee as you watch the flames dance in the statement fireplace. 

Outside, under the cover, is where you can sit down for an alfresco breakfast. Afterwards, hang out at the table, making plans with little intention of following through – and when you’ve finally admitted to yourself that you probably won’t leave the comfort of this home, you can spend sun-drenched days in and around the private pool. 

Other than the beach, or surrounding villages, you can take a walk to the local tavernas for lunch, but be sure to make it back home in time for sunset. Pour a glass of wine or grab an ice-cold beer and admire the ocean view just visible through the trees as the setting sun paints the sky a variety of colours. 

Spyo's Hideaway

Overlooking the pine-covered hills of western Paxos, this rustic home offers a peaceful island escape. Outside, leisurely days can be spent by the pool or admiring the views from the terrace. There are lots of steps here and some steep drops in the garden, so it won’t be suitable for children under 12 or those with reduced mobility. But inside, you’ll find the rooms hit all the right notes when it comfort, plus each of the bedrooms open up directly onto the terrace. From here, it’s just a fifteen-minute walk to the nearby village of Magazzia, while the nearest beaches and the main port of Gaios are just a ten-minute drive away.
