When winding up the path to this home, you'll be struck by its traditional beauty. Reminiscent of ancient Greece, the original lime kiln was built by the owner's family over two hundred years ago. Given the rustic look of this stunning villa, you wouldn't expect to see Smeg appliances, Smart TVs, and Simmons mattresses. The blend of the old meets the new is perfectly done. Imerovigli is quieter than some other areas of the island, and you can stroll through the picturesque streets admiring the architecture. Stop off at a local taverna for lunch, before following the walking trail up to the breathtaking viewpoint at Skaros Rock. And, with the town of Fira just over 2km away, you can easily visit the capital's cathedrals, museums, and even take a ride on the cable car.

From the moment we saw the views from this villa in the village of Firostefani, we were sold. Endless stretches of blue radiate from all sides, best enjoyed from the terrace and hot tub. There’s an alfresco dining spot too that’s just waiting to be used for Greek treats in the sun, and when the rays get too strong, you can retreat inside amid the villa’s cool whitewashed walls. There are a few signs of wear and tear in the decor and the kitchen is on the small side. But with Fira just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample the local fare. And when you’re ready for a dip in the sea, pebbly Gialos Beach is 3.5 kilometres from your door.

This unique villa on the Greek island of Santorini is located in Firostefani village known as the most beautiful secret of Santorini’s Caldera. Despite its quiet and private setting, the home is only a two-minute walk from Firostefani Central Square, which offers a variety of restaurants and cafes perfect for traditional Greek meals, as well as a great view of the caldera cliff-side while you eat. 

Slightly further away from the villa (but still within easy walking distance), you can reach Fira Town where you can visit The Museum of Prehistoric Thira, displaying artefacts from the destroyed Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri, ride the Santorini cable car down to Skala for some truly amazing views, or see the Three Bells of Fira with its iconic, blue-domed church. 

Spend relaxing hours back at the villa, lounging in the Mediterranean sunshine before plunging into the cool water of your private infinity pool. As you swim to the water’s edge and overlook the Aegean Sea, you will also be provided with a panoramic view of the island’s volcano. Situated underneath the Venetian-era Pyrgos Castle in Santorini, it's hard to imagine this beautiful setting being the site of a factory, but rather remarkably, this home has an industrial history. In a former life, the building was used solely for the production of wine and tsipouro.

It has since been refurbished to become a set of four self-contained homes that can be booked out all at once. There are still signs of its history, from the cave-like rooms and the massive piece of machinery that sits in the middle of one of the living rooms. 

However, there are plenty of luxurious touches that have since been added, like the swimming pool and Jacuzzi that sit in the middle of the outdoor space, as well as the dreamy rooftop terrace that looks out over the Aegean Sea and neighbouring islands.

The historic village of Pyrgos has medieval streets and alleys to peek around, as well as a handful of restaurants and the aforementioned castle. There's also an abundance of wineries in the local area if you feel inspired by the villa, as well as Kamari Beach, which can easily be reached with a car.

This stunning villa boasts breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and several nearby islands, including Naxos. Space is limited here and you won’t have a kitchen, but with views like this, we think this home still holds its own. You’ll likely spend your days soaking up the sun on the veranda or unwinding on the pool’s Jacuzzi bench. Pop open a bottle of Champagne and lounge on floor cushions to watch the sunset before heading out to dine at a nearby restaurant. Bliss.

Such is the beautiful landscape in abundance and the hilly terrain from which to appreciate it, it seems a waste to go to the Greek islands and not stay somewhere with a decent view. This villa on the highest point of Santorini's capital is, therefore, an excellent choice. From the terrace, guests are treated to a panoramic vista of the Aegean Sea and the Tholos Naftilos volcano sat in the middle.

As you would hope, there are plenty of places where you can sit and gawp at this pretty scene, including alfresco dining tables, lounges and a hot tub with an uninterrupted view of the caldera. 

Although your attention might naturally be drawn elsewhere, the home itself is a treat for the eyes, too. Although it has recently been reconstructed, it has been built in the neoclassical style popular with affluent residents that made the island their residence in the nineteenth century. As a result, you'll see domed ceilings, arched doorways and thick walls, as well as an eclectic collection of artwork and decorative items.

The prime location in the middle of Fira means that there are plenty of restaurants and cultural distractions within walking distance, including the Megaro Gizi Museum. The town's old harbour isn't too far away either.

When we think of Fira in Santorini – we imagine views of the inky blue caldera, and this studio apartment doesn't disappoint. You can enjoy them from the private terrace and heated hot tub. Another highlight here is the Greek breakfast with locally sourced ingredients which can be savoured in the room, terrace or the host's secluded courtyard (handy as there isn't a kitchen here). Inside, the suite is decorated in a simple, traditional style, reflecting the island. The location is fabulous too – it's 100 metres from the Megaro Gyzi Museum and 150 metres from the cable car which takes you to the old port. The centre of Fira and the Archaeological Museum of Fira are both just 200 metres away too.

Just a sixteen-minute drive from the white walls and pale blue rooftops of Pyrgos, the northeastern coast of Santorini offers more serenity off the tourist track. This tiny island is easy to cross by car, plus the Athinios Ferry Port is twenty-three minutes away for day trips farther afield. But when a host is as attentive as yours, you might want to stick around.

After a private transfer from the airport or port, you’ll arrive at a studio suite that appears beautifully traditional from the outside. We love the stone exterior and the country-style wooden door where you can enter your private patio. A parasol and slatted shelter create much-needed shade from the Cycladic sun, but your host can also help out. They’ll provide a refreshing basket of fresh fruit and local wine upon arrival, which you can nibble and sip peacefully in your serene, white, studio.

Sleep soundly in the bedroom through the archway, looking forward to waking up to homemade breakfast every morning in the restaurant. Your suite sits just below its terrace – how convenient.
