This compact villa offers open-plan studio-style space which is best suited to a couple, although the two sofa beds in the living area could be used for children. From a few steps away, you can join the walking path that covers the dramatic volcanic landscape between Oia and Fira, with Oia a twenty-minute walk away and Fira around two hours in the other direction. Of course, if you want to reach the island’s capital a little faster, it’s a twenty-minute drive. Within Finikia itself, you’ve got a handful of pretty restaurants serving Santorini specialities and ancient churches looking out over the Caldera. 

At the villa, there’s no denying the highlight is the private terrace with its view over the patchwork of fields to the deep blue sea. A jetted plunge pool offers a place to cool off from the Santorini sun with loungers to dry off after. The views over the caldera from this cave home’s terrace in Oia are stunning. There are not one, but two Jacuzzis to relax in, one indoors and one outdoors with incredible vistas, while inside, the décor is classic and charming. A few things to note, we’d say –  the wifi can be a bit patchy, especially towards the back of the house. Also, you don’t get a sunset or sunrise view, but the vistas are fabulous even without them and it’s just a few minutes’ stroll to a sunset vantage point in the town. In fact, the location is ideal as you can walk to boutiques, restaurants and bars. 

A Bit of Blue Skies

From the moment we saw the views from this villa in the village of Firostefani, we were sold. Endless stretches of blue radiate from all sides, best enjoyed from the terrace and hot tub. There’s an alfresco dining spot too that’s just waiting to be used for Greek treats in the sun, and when the rays get too strong, you can retreat inside amid the villa’s cool whitewashed walls. There are a few signs of wear and tear in the decor and the kitchen is on the small side. But with Fira just a ten-minute walk away, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to sample the local fare. And when you’re ready for a dip in the sea, pebbly Gialos Beach is 3.5 kilometres from your door.


Sun Shores

If you're looking for a truly unique place to stay in Santorini, then it doesn't get much better than this stunning home. The former factory once produced wine, but has since been reborn as a beautiful collection of three adjoining apartments, perfect for groups who favour both style and space. 

The traditional white-washed exterior, which the island is so famous for, gives way to a cool, crisp interior.
