Situated in the charming area of Graça, this luminous flat is a cosy retreat in one of Lisbon's most authentic neighbourhoods. The sun-kissed private terrace is our favourite spot. Begin the morning out there with a strong cup of coffee and pasteis de nata in the fresh air – your host can also arrange breakfast – and close the day with a glass of Vinho Verde come nightfall. You'll also have access to a communal garden, which is perfect for picnics in the late-afternoon sunshine. Inside, the sleek design is complemented by brilliant pops of red. Sprawl out on the sofa for a post-sightseeing catnap or gather around the table for a typical Portuguese dinner. 

Another thing we adore is the location. You're a bit further away from the hustle and bustle in the city centre, but with the famous 28 Tram a short walk away, you won't have to travel far to see the sights. Here, narrow streets are flanked by local restaurants, bakeries and open-air cafes, all serving up delectable regional dishes. Make sure to take in the panoramic views from the hilltop observation points – our favourite is Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, easily reached on foot. Or, explore in style and ask your host to arrange river cruises, helicopter tours and other experiences.

Vermilion at Dusk

Small but mighty, this bold home in the Graça district has some of Lisbon's most iconic landmarks within walking distance. The National Pantheon, Sé Cathedral and São Jorge Castle lie minutes away, and Feira da Ladra, the famous flea market, operates close by. Although the apartment is compact, it has enough room for a small family, and there's a balcony – with fantastic city views, no less – where you can enjoy alfresco breakfasts or late-night drinks. You also have all of Lisbon at your feet, but it's worth mentioning it's a steep walk back up to the home, plus another flight of steps to reach the first floor – luckily, there's a tram stop nearby.

The Emerald One

Carefully curated, this laidback apartment is brimming with charm. There’s a focus on natural textures – think wood, wicker and linen – with a cool blue, grey and white colour palette. Spend mornings relaxing in the light-filled living space – find the comfiest spot on the couch or take a seat at the dining table with a pastel de nata and a bica (espresso). Open the French doors and step onto the patio for views of terracotta rooftops and that famous Iberian sunshine. And if that wasn’t peaceful enough, your principal bedroom overlooks the Jardim do Torel – it’s often referred to as Lisbon’s hidden garden by the locals. Step out of your building and you’ll find yourself right on the edge of Praça dos Restauradores, one of the city’s most bustling squares. It joins up with the leafy Avenida de Liberdade and places you a fifteen-minute walk from the upscale Príncipe Real neighbourhood – one of our favourite bairros for food and drink. 

The Sunbathers

At the top of the Avenida de Liberdade, Parque Eduardo VII is a gorgeous, green beacon of the Santo Antonio district. And with the annual Lisbon Book Fair taking place here every August, this cultural hub doesn’t just offer lush lawns and perfect views of the Tagus. Eight minutes away on foot, this apartment (like the nearby park) is yet another example of a serene oasis in the middle of this vibrant city.

Without any typical Portuguese features, this home is in a world of its own. The host’s Saharan-influenced decorations create a relaxing atmosphere that transports you into nature. We love the cacti alongside wicker furnishings and rugged, handmade tapestries on the walls. Then ornate hanging lamps bring a desert vibe to the dining area, where the entire space is complemented perfectly by a sandy colour palette.

Kick back on the sofa and put the record player on while you settle into your new surroundings. As music softly plays, you might find yourself gazing at the geometric, monochrome artworks on display. Or when you need to ground yourself back in reality, take a look into the four arched mirrors – your reflection would look even better with a glass of douro in hand.

Four Arches

With unobstructed views of Alfama, Lisbon's charismatic medieval neighbourhood, this apartment will place you in the best location to explore the city's rich history. It's next to the Sé de Lisboa cathedral, so you won't have to walk far to see your first attraction. You're also no more than a five-minute walk to Baixa – the historical and geographical heart of the city – where you'll discover magnificent plazas, grand avenues and impressive Pombaline architecture. A timeless, rustic home with original azulejo tilework, antique wood-panelled walls, a standalone bath, and two reading nooks in the living room. There's hardly a corner in this home that couldn't feature in an interiors magazine as a prime example of rustic chic. The classical decor immediately had us in the mood to seek out another must-see/hear Lisbon experience, fado. You've got a few choices within a ten-minute walk, but the elegant Casa da Linhares stood out to us. Where better to listen to this mysterious and melancholic music while you dine on typically Portuguese dishes than in the foundation of an earthquake-ruined palace?

The Little Bastu

Located in the Graça neighbourhood of Lisbon, this spot offers views across the Tagus River and Lisbon's National Pantheon. Just a four-minute walk from the nearest supermarket and Portuguese bakery, the balcony terrace makes an idyllic little spot to sit with your morning coffee and pastries overlooking the city's rooftops. However, it's worth noting that the kitchen is small, and its compact layout makes it difficult to cook more substantial meals. Conveniently, the bedrooms feature air conditioning, although we think the fourth bedroom (with a double sofa bed) is better suited to one guest rather than two. 




The Watercolour Effect

This stylish apartment sits atop the highest hill in Lisbon. Thanks to the hardwood floors, stone wall, small balconies and large windows that fill the space with light, there's a cosy vibe here that will make you feel right at home. Oh, and did we mention the view? Just step out onto the balcony and you'll see the sparkling river in the distance. There's a fully-stocked kitchen that makes cooking a breeze, and your hosts are also more than happy to arrange exciting extras like breakfast delivery, home massages, surf lessons, a cruise on the Tagus and even helicopter rides. Though you're a bit far from Praça do Comércio and the city centre (it's a fifteen-minute bus ride), staying in Graça is worth it. You'll find colourful houses, local restaurants making traditional Portuguese fare and independent shops nestled amongst the cobblestone alleyways. Not to mention this area has some of the best viewpoints in Lisbon – we suggest Miradouro da Graça, which is a fifteen-minute walk away. 

Picture Perfect

Old meets new in the most spectacular fashion at this uber-modern apartment perched along a quiet street in Graça, Lisbon's oldest and highest district.

A home for connoisseurs of contemporary design, it's the glass-topped atrium garden taking all the glory here – and rightly so. Cleverly connecting the bedroom and living spaces and flooding the home with natural light, the terraces are an atmospheric place to hang out come day or night.

Inside, the hosts have injected some serious personality and style into this home. Statement lighting and feature walls add interest, while colourful ceramics remind you Lisbon's streets aren't far away. 

Friends or family sharing will love how spread apart the bedrooms feel for added privacy, and there's heaps of space in the living areas. While some of you rustle up a bite to eat in the made-for-action kitchen, the rest can keep you company at the breakfast bar stools or spill out into the lounge.

Lingering over coffees and pastel de natas in the quiet of the atrium, you'd hardly believe how central this home is. But Graça's authentic family-run bistros, fado houses, and intimate wine bars are just a stroll away. Or hop on Tram 28 (twelve minutes on foot) to blaze a trail into downtown Lisbon.

High Jinks

Located along Lisbon's vibrant Avenida da Liberdade, renowned for its designer shopping and excellent restaurants, this stylish apartment welcomes you to experience the city in style. You're just a short twelve-minute walk from Convento do Carmo and a twenty-four-minute stroll from São Jorge Castle. 

It's a bright and breezy living space with heaps of abundant natural light pouring in throughout the day, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows that frame calming green views. Return from a culture-packed afternoon of sightseeing and sprawl out on the plump sofa with a glass of Rioja, immediately noticing the tranquil atmosphere of your modern pad. 

The sleek, open kitchen and dining area mean you can prepare a few traditional dishes to accompany your aperitivo while keeping up with the conversation and customary card games. There's plenty of room for inviting guests over, without feeling on top of each other. Later on, head out for dinner in lively Baixa, where fantastic eateries and hidden wine bars await, just eleven minutes away on foot. 

Sofa Wine

Just a two-minute walk from Lisbon’s beautiful Praça das Flores, this home in the heart of Principe Real is an ideal base for those looking for a truly relaxing city stay. Showing off its traditional Portuguese style, this bright apartment’s main room is full of Azulejo details, while the bedrooms are light and full of charm with their floral decor and large view-giving windows. Speaking of views, step out onto the large private terrace where a table, chairs and sun loungers wait to host sunny alfresco breakfasts and evening drinks while you watch the sunset over Lisbon’s emblematic red rooftops. When you’re busy soaking up the personalised comfort of your beautiful home, go out and explore your surroundings. Bairro Alto’s cobbled streets lined with hip restaurants and Fado bars are ten minutes away on foot, the Carmo Convent is a fifteen-minute stroll away and the Time Out Market is a twenty-minute walk from your door. The Alfama, too, is easily reachable on foot in just thirty minutes where the São Jorge Castle waits to be discovered. Factor in the Tagus cruises, surf lessons, helicopter flights, wine tours and at-home massages your host is happy to organise for you, and you’ll soon see why this home provides the perfect, blissful break. 


Flower Square

Lisbon is having a moment right now. The beating heart of Portugal, this glossy tile-lined city boasts glittering sea views, a rich history and a mouth-watering foodie culture. Hours and hours can be spent wandering the narrow, cobbled streets, hopping on and off trams, sipping port in the street and clutching warm pastéis de nata in brown paper bags. This recently renovated apartment could not be more perfectly placed. Situated in a 100-year-old building, with the 11th century Castelo de São Jorge as your neighbour, it offers an interior that's streamlined and functional, enriched by little historical features an expert's eye can immediately pick out – there’s even Portuguese marble in the bathroom. We really love the sunny terrace with views of the castle – take a hot coffee out here and watch the world go by. 

Custard Tart

This apartment might be modern, but the view is all old-world Lisbon. Inside, the living room feels like a 60s entertainer’s paradise, with velvet sofas, gallery-white walls and curious sculptures lining the room. Slide open the wall of glass and step out onto the terrace which has a view of modern Lisbon in one direction, and the orange roofs and townhouses of old in the other. The kitchen continues the charming retro theme, where lipstick red dining chairs offer space for the whole group. The master bedroom feels super plush with a purple velvet feature headboard, while the twin room is a cheerful shade of sunflower-yellow. We love the little nod to Portuguese tradition in the azelujo tiles in the family bathroom. This place is in the modern neighbourhood of Saldanha, a haven of sleek shopping streets and ultra-modern coffee shops. A twenty-minute stroll sees you in the winding, cobbled streets of Alfama, crowned with a castle, or the grand streets of Baixa packed with local restaurants and bars.
