This medieval house is one of the oldest in Stratford-upon-Avon, but the way the host has decorated it marries the new interiors perfectly with the original structure. The slanted walls, wooden panels, and beautiful tiles wouldn’t seem out of place in a Lewis Carroll novel, which for a house with as much history as this, feels pretty apt. It doesn't surprise us that the unique home was chosen as a filming spot for the BBC One show Shakespeare & Hathaway.

We can't decide on a favourite feature – torn between the beam-ceilinged bedrooms, the boutique-style bathrooms, the wall painting from the 1600s, and the location in the very middle of this historic town. The high street, with its Shakespeare museums and old-timely pubs, is just a five-minute walk away. There’s still plenty else for you to discover yourself, as in a house like this there's no shortage of nooks and crannies. 

Flute & Snug

This cottage in Stratford-upon-Avon is a hidden gem that combines modern and traditional styles to create a cozy and comfortable space. With three bedrooms, a stunning family bathroom, and two WC rooms, this cottage is well-equipped for your stay. The living room has a wood burner, and the spacious kitchen is perfect for preparing meals and enjoying them with family and friends. Glass doors open out to the patio and lawned garden where you can enjoy meals at the wooden table and chairs. Upstairs are three stylish bedrooms, two doubles and a single, to suit a number of different groups. A short walk takes you into the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon where you can enjoy shows at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre or venture further afield into the Cotswolds.

You'll find this 1930s home nestled at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, just a mile away from Stratford-upon-Avon's bustling town centre. Though this place has plenty of period charm, the modern upgrades are what steal the show – think underfloor heating in the kitchen, an electric fireplace with mood lighting and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that lead straight into the suntrap of a garden. Perfect for afternoon barbecues and alfresco evening cocktails, the garden's south-facing outlook means you'll always have the light. Inside, the glossy kitchen is sure to excite home chefs. Rustle up a mouthwatering meal to share around the dining table, followed by a family board game or two. This town is famous for being the birthplace of the Bard, and The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, The Shakespeare Museum and the namesake river are all reachable on foot. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs to tickle your fancy in the centre, but for a change of scenery, hop in the car and visit Warwick's famous castle – it's only a twenty-minute drive.

This little home sets the scene for a romantic getaway in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon. Whether travelling solo or with a special someone, you’ll find everything you could need for an easy stay. Located just three minutes from Shakespeare’s birthplace with quick access to the centre, days can be spent sightseeing your way across this historic market town. There are two floors here so it may not be suitable for those with reduced mobility and parking can be a little tricky but when it comes to everyday comfort, we think this home hits the spot.

Poet's Nook

If you’re looking for a rural escape within walking distance of sights, pubs, cafés and shops, this is the spot for you. Enjoy the tranquillity of a bungalow in a private garden surrounded by woodland and fields where you can still walk into the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon. And it’s a glorious walk too – around twenty minutes along the traffic-free riverside path. You’re right next to Stratford Race Course if you fancy a flurry on the horses and it’s a twenty-minute walk to Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. There’s also a shop and a couple of local pubs five minutes away. After a day exploring the home of The Bard, return to the crackle of a wood-burning stove in the living room. A collection of books and board games make for cosy nights in and the country-style kitchen has all the equipment you need for self-catering. Heading out to the garden you know this place is child-friendly with a big lawn to run around and a swing set. If you’re lucky you might spot deer grazing in the field beyond.
