Keeping its original signage over the window, this former graphic arts studio offers a charming apartment along the road from the Piazza San Michele. We love how the arched mezzanine adds character to the living space, which transforms into a second bedroom for guests three and four. Though there isn't an oven here for home cooking, you'll find a variety of restaurants within strolling distance. Fancy an outing? Tour some of Lucca's churches before visiting the Museum of Villa Mansi and Puccini's birthplace.

Home truths
At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed on the mezzanine level. It is semi-open to the space below, so privacy is limited.
You won't find an oven here – though there is a hob. We think the kitchen is better suited to prepping lighter bites than large meals.
If you're travelling with little ones, your host can provide a cot and high chair for free. You'll need to request them in advance.
Given the home's central spot, expect to hear some street noise throughout your stay.
