Designed by a film executive producer with a cinematic eye – best known for shaping cult classics, including American Psycho – this Mojave desert house frames the landscape through panoramic picture windows that make the outside feel like part of the interior. Come dusk, the wraparound patio – with its covered dining area and fire pit – becomes somewhere you won't want to leave as the sky shifts through amber. When night falls, the famously dark desert skies reveal themselves – and Joshua Tree National Park is right there to explore when daylight calls you back out.

The pool is unheated, so its comfort will depend on the time of year and ambient temperature. The hot tub is heated at no extra cost, making it the better bet on cooler desert nights.
