Five private desert acres, a covered porch with unobstructed views stretching to the National Park and the rocky peaks beyond, and outdoor soaking tubs for stargazing – this adobe house in the Joshua Tree Highlands is built around the landscape rather than despite it. A dedicated yoga and meditation room faces the sunrise, while hammocks and multiple spots to sit and watch coyotes and jackrabbits pass through at dusk make it hard to spend any time indoors. Around 1,000 acres of Mojave Desert Land Trust hiking land sits just a quarter of a mile away.

Home truths
You're a ten-minute drive from the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, and about fifteen-minutes from the town's restaurants and shops – so a car is essential for the duration of your stay.
The access road to the home is unpaved, so expect to drive along a dirt track to reach it.
Desert wildlife – from quails and jackrabbits to the occasional coyote – roam freely across the five-acre lot. Treat any encounters with curiosity rather than alarm, and keep food secured when eating outside.
