With more than 188,000 lakes, Finland feels more like water than land. And while you're spoilt for choice in the country, we're pretty enamoured with this cute little cabin near lake Avusjärvi. Set back 100m from the shoreline, the wooden home is a great basecamp for days spent hiking through pine forests, cycling quiet roads or canoeing across pristine landscapes. For the really brave, we suggest a dip in the water before jumping into the home's lakeside sauna. If you're still cold, head into the open-plan living space and light the wood-burning fire. Move quickly to nab the rocking chair positioned in front of it. Bedrooms all lead off from the main living area and are a cosy mix of pastel colour schemes and knitted furnishings.
