Widely regarded as the island’s most romantic restaurant, Oia’s Ambrosia is a particularly popular choice among honeymooners, with its menu of elevated takes on traditional Greek cuisine matched only by the unparalleled caldera views from its terrace. Outside of Oia, we recommend the flavour-packed Mediterranean fare and extensive winelist at Argo in Thira, followed by a drink at Marinera or Franco’s Bar. For oysters (a well-known aphrodisiac) and other wonderfully fresh seafood, make a beeline for Katina or Ammoudi on Ammoudi Bay.

Serving local and visiting cinephiles since 1987, the Kamari open-air movie theatre is surely a strong contender for the title of “most romantic cinema”. Films are shown in English with Greek subtitles and generally run from May until October, when you can expect balmy temperatures and clear skies - perfect for stargazing. Either head here after an early dinner (doors open at 8.30pm for a 9.30pm start), or pack a picnic, best washed down with local wine or beer - or a cocktail from the bar, of course.
