While the interiors are simple and the bathroom could do with a refresh, the place is functional and comfortable. Plus, two bedrooms have balcony access, offering glimpses of the Mediterranean Sea – a view best enjoyed with a glass of something chilled in hand.

Yes, this villa is only 400 metres from the beach and not much further to the centre of the resort town of Protaras, but we'd like this address even if it was in the middle of nowhere. Only recently built, the interior feels fresh and contemporary, but our greatest praise is reserved for the outdoor space. Not only is there a particularly inviting swimming pool, but there's also a balcony with glorious views of the Med and vast amounts of terrace space on which to sunbathe, dine alfresco to even play pool out in the open air.

With clean-cut, whitewashed exteriors, this coastal home has enough room for everyone, with five bedrooms over three storeys, plus a pool and games room. Large, sliding glass doors make the transition from indoors to outdoors seamless, though thanks to the position of neighbouring homes, it isn't the most private, especially on the terrace. But the location means that even if you don't drive, you won't be at a loss. You'll have your pick of restaurants and bars within a few minutes' walk, and the golden Vathia Gonia beach is just down the road.

Wake up on sunny Cyprus mornings and throw open the curtains to bring the outside in. Make a pot of coffee and sip on it in your alfresco lounge area while enjoying the stunning surroundings. Cool off from the rising heat with a dip in your outdoor pool, before grilling up some Cypriot sausages on your barbecue. Enjoy spending the afternoon relaxing on a poolside lounger with a good book. Though, our favourite spot is on the rooftop terrace, with beautiful views out to the sea. Inside, it's bright and open, but the interiors are fairly uninspired. The bedrooms are on the smaller side too, so with recommend packing light. Location-wise, the villa is just a five-minute walk from the nearest sandy beach and is ideal for exploring the beautiful resort of Protaras. 

The Garden in Blue 

Nothing quite says beach living like crisp white and deep blue interiors, poolside lounging, and expansive windows that allow plenty of natural light to stream in. Of course, close proximity to the sea doesn’t hurt, and this villa lies only a short walk away from Perera Beach. Spend days in the salty surf, only getting up to stroll the boardwalk in search of an ice cream cone. 

Forgetting about time is encouraged here, so if you find yourself out late, stop by the restaurants lining the boardwalk for an authentic dinner before returning home. Alternatively, stock up on ingredients for vegetable skewers and marinated chicken and fire up the grill back at the villa for a barbecue at sundown. 

When you aren't at the beach, spend days at home in and around the pool – occupy a sun lounger with a book in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. Stay out after dark for a bit of stargazing before watching a family movie on the plush sofa.

Sunbathe at the Yianna Marie Beach or have a go at water sports at the gorgeous Fig Tree beach – both at walking distance. Enjoy the gorgeous landscapes as you hike or cycle around the Troodos Mountains. Summers are perfect for exploring vineyards in medieval villages.
