The word “wow” came up a few times when we visited this place… A former coal crane located in Nordhavnen (the old industrial harbour area), it’s an incredibly special place that offers an out-of-this-world experience. Set up for pampered living in exceptional surroundings, it consists of three levels of unique luxury. One with your living quarters – the bed is heavenly. Another with a huge meeting room and bathroom – the bathtubs have some of the best views we’ve ever come across. And two terraces – one for enjoying magnificent sunsets, the other tailor-made for sunrises.

Tucked back from the hustle and bustle of the ever-popular harbourside hotspot of Nyhavn, this spectacular apartment ranks among our favourites in the city. 

A large open-plan living area is the focal point of any stay here, with a sleek handleless kitchen, a typically stylish mid-century dining table and chairs, plus a comfortable seating area. It's lined with windows along one side, letting in plenty of natural light during the day. When night falls, elegant pendant lights illuminate the space.

Stride out into the picturesque pocket of the city. This 17th-century canal, lined with colourful houses and stunning sailboats, continuously tops lists of Copenhagen's must-see sights, and it's easy to see why. But, while it may attract the tourists, there's no doubt that the locals love it just as much, and you'd be hard-pushed to find a better spot in the city to enjoy a cold beer on a warm summer's afternoon.

To the east, a bridge connects you to the cafes and canals of Christianshavn and the hippie haven of Christiania, where quirky self-built homes line the lake. While to the west lie Copenhagen's pedestrianised shopping streets and the low-key creative cool of Kødbyen, also known as the Meatpacking District, a ten-minute bike ride away.

Our favourite spot is the private balcony with its views of Christiansborg’s spire. With plenty of curios decking the shelves, original artwork, a record player to serenade your evenings and a beautiful antique bureau on which to catch up on work, you’re all set for a relaxing time here, whether for business or pleasure. It elegantly blends wooden furniture, green plants and photos taken by the host himself to form a modern minimalist home with plenty of charm. You are a five-minute walk from Nyhavn and all of its cultural attractions. If you feel like experiencing the city in a different way, you can also sit down on the sunny balcony with a cup of coffee and watch Copenhageners go about their day.

Both Amalienborg Castle and the Little Mermaid statue are a seven-minute walk away, while the picture-perfect harbour of Nyhavn is just fourteen minutes from home. Catch a glimpse of the stunning Opera house before heading to the neighbourhood’s Copenhagen Bicycles, where you can rent bikes and get around like locals. Locations really don’t get much better than this. It's rare to find a property this close by to the picture-perfect Nyhavn district, with its brightly coloured gabled townhouses. Find a sunny spot outside at a quayside café or hop on a boat for one of the many canal tours that start here. As the evening draws in, take a pre-dinner stroll along the waterfront, then duck into one of the many restaurants and bars that line the canal.  You could call in on the Queen too, she lives just around the corner. And when it’s finally time to retreat inside, you’ll find a contemporary place that invites you to be social. The communal area is the heart of the home, offering plenty of space for your tribe to hang out, cook, and eat. The industrial-style windows flood natural light through the apartment by day, while the plush velvet curtains allow privacy at night when it’s time for some shut-eye.

You'll find this apartment is just a short stroll from the expansive Amager Strand Beach. The location is ideal for those wanting a laid-back city stay and easy access to Copenhagen's coast. You can walk to the beach for a dip in the Øresund or ride the metro to three stops to visit the famous Nyhavn. Back home, the apartment is contemporary and comfortable. A bright living area and open-plan kitchen make it easy to unwind together – just note that there's a sofa bed for two. One bedroom also has convertible beds, offering ultimate flexibility for friends and families.

With all of Copenhagen's best bits within easy strolling distance, the location of this central Indre By apartment is hard to beat. While we can't fault the light-filled, Scandi interiors of the living area and bedrooms, the kitchen and bathroom set-up might be too compact for some. It's also worth noting that at full occupancy, the last two guests will be sharing a sofa bed in the lounge. But we're willing to let that slide for a home with such a spot-on location.

The Danish Way

You're right in the thick of things at this smart downtown apartment, perched along Copenhagen's shopping mecca of Strøget. The metro is just 100 metres from your door, though we doubt you'll need it with buzzy Nyhavn Harbour and countless happening restaurants and cosy cafes within walking distance. It's worth noting if four of you share, the last two guests will have to make do with the sofa bed in the living space. You'll also need to prepare for some street noise from time to time. But we'll take that for a home with such an unbeatable location.

Strøget Delight

Located right in the heart of Copenhagen, this eco-friendly apartment hits all the right notes when it comes to ease and simplicity. Outside, it’s a short stroll to Kongens Have and Kongens Nytorv. There are great public transport links and paid parking is available at a location nearby. Minimalists will appreciate the simple details of this apartment. It’s also family-friendly with space across two floors to stretch out and unwind. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area but this works nicely for larger groups. 


The Daily Essentials 

Centrally located and chicly styled, this apartment ticks all of our boxes. You'll be based in lively Indre By, just a short walk from Nyhavn's colourful harbour and Strøget's many shops. But even better than the location is the private roof terrace back home. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a Danish beer and admire the city views. Indoors, the pared-back interiors feature natural elements and lots of light. The kitchen isn't the biggest and there is some adult-themed artwork, but otherwise, it's a cosy option in the heart of the city.

A Viking Hideaway

Bright, modern and unbeatably central, this Copenhagen pad offers comfort and style in the popular Danish capital. Fall in love with the light-filled living space, tastefully decorated with a typically Scandinavian sense of minimalism and effortless cool. We're especially smitten with the sleek, matte black kitchen. When the sun comes out, you have your own private balcony to kick back on, coffee and traditional custard pastry in hand. When it comes to location, it doesn't get better than this apartment. Push open your front door and find yourself right in the city centre, with shops, restaurants and bars in every direction. Strøget, an expansive pedestrian street lined with trendy boutiques, is just a five-minute walk away. From here, saunter across the canal and over to the Christiansborg Palace. This historic landmark houses the current Danish government – as well as a stellar collection of paintings and sculptures.

For design buffs, Candy Shop is like a treasure map – there are plenty of things hiding around every corner, waiting to be discovered. The townhouse dates back to 1735, so naturally, it’s brimming with history, which carefully blends with modern amenities and charming furniture. We especially love the pastels palette and the charismatic striped wallpaper that reminds us a little of the traditional Danish candy, bolsjer. Perfect for a family, this home places you right in the heart of Copenhagen – Strøget is nearby, and so is Kongens Have and Rosenborg Castle.

Candy Shop

A flat roomy enough for ten people right in the city centre is pretty much unheard of, so imagine our surprise when we found this gem. With five stylish bedrooms and an amply-sized living area meant for socialising, there's enough space here for a big group to spread out and get comfortable. The kitchen isn't massive – we'd only recommend it for cooking breakfast and other light meals – but we liked the vanity area outside the bathrooms, where you can prep hair and makeup without hogging the loo. There are other touches, too – USB plugs by all the beds, an Apple TV in the living space for at-home movie nights and no single-use plastic. This building has the highest eco-certification (A15) and it's run on renewable energy, so it's as good for the environment as it is stylish. Best of all is the location – Strøget is just around the corner, with restaurants, shops, cafes and bars all right on your doorstep. You're only two minutes away from Kongens Have and Rosenborg Castle as well, perfect for strolls in the sun.

You couldn’t ask for a more central spot for this Indre By apartment, set just steps from the iconic Magasin du Nord department store and a short stroll from Tivoli Gardens. Need to be someplace fast? The Metro is only minutes away, making exploring every corner of Copenhagen easy. Inside, the Scandi interiors of this light-filled home speak for themselves. That said, there are a few compromises to be made here. The main bedroom sleeps four, with both a double bed and a sofa bed, while a living room sofa bed sleeps another two. While this won’t suit everyone, it could work out great for a small family or close-knit group.

There’s no place like home… Until you’ve stayed in Master of Light that is. Casual luxury at its finest, it’s Copenhagen at its best. The location is extraordinary – you’re right besides Nyhavn, the city’s most famous postcard motif. And we can’t get over the design. Alexander clearly has a passion for Danish design, with works by Bang & Olufsen and Hans J. Wegner adorning every corner. There’s also a fantastic rooftop terrace with a nine-person hot tub, sun beds and a lounge arrangement, plus fantastic views of Copenhagen's historic buildings.



Master of Light

With the Queen Margrethe as your next-door neighbour, it’s no wonder that the two-bedroom home has a grandiose and illustrious feel. The combination of the lively colour palette and the contemporary Scandinavian design mixed with lavish textures makes A Royal Affair a one-of-a-kind home that also places you in one of the most central locations in Copenhagen. If you fancy a traditional Danish meal, Nyhavn is just around the corner, but you can also just stay in to take advantage of the picturesque surroundings.

Downtown Copenhagen apartments with outdoor space are a rare find, so it’s no wonder this light-filled home with a shared rooftop terrace caught our eye. All the sightseeing hotspots, including Nyhavn Harbour, are just a stroll away. After something more authentic? The food markets of Torvehallerne are close by to pick up local ingredients to rustle up brunch back at home in the made-for-action kitchen. It's worth noting there's a lively bar below this historic apartment building – but in central Copenhagen, this is all par of the course.

If you’re looking to experience the vibrant heart of Copenhagen, this apartment delivers a great solution. Located on Strøget, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to local restaurants, cafes and shops. It also provides easy access to iconic sights and there are great public transport links. It’s worth noting, you may hear some street noise during your stay but this is to be expected in this central location. Plus, you’ll find all the essentials you could need to settle in and unwind. There are also flexible sleeping arrangements with two sofa beds – making this a sweet option for families.    

Call it Home

Just a five-minute walk from this apartment will take you to the City Hall Square and the central station. It's the same walking distance to Tivoli Gardens, a magical theme park with a century-old wooden roller coaster, gardens and restaurants. As with the rides at Tivoli, this apartment has some ups and downs – let's start with the good points. There's a shared garden perfect for beers in the summer, and the apartment itself is spacious. To enter the second bedroom, though, you will need to go through the third bedroom. This room doesn't have any windows but borrows light via French doors into the adjacent room, so privacy is also an issue – it’s probably fine for the kids, we would say.

Family Haven

Brimming with Scandi charm, this top-floor apartment offers a stylish base in the centre of Copenhagen. Not only are the interiors comfortable and bright, but you also have the luxury of a private balcony with views of neighbouring red rooftops.

In this home, you'll feel a tangible sense of calm among the nude-toned furnishings and smooth textures. Wake up and prepare a coffee and Danish pastry in the sleek high-spec kitchen, then glide outside for a leisurely breakfast in the sun. After a morning of lounging in the homely living space, head downstairs and step straight into the city centre.

The widely photographed Nyhavn harbour, flanked by colourful buildings, is just a five-minute walk away. Enjoy lunch with a view before venturing to nearby Christiansborg Palace, a 12th-century structure that houses the government – you can also peruse its impressive collection of artwork. Indulge in some light shopping in the atmospheric Strøget area, and remember to pick up a bottle of wine to enjoy on your balcony once you wind your way back home.

Located on the top floor of a historic building in Copenhagen’s charming old town, this modern apartment is ideal for families, friends, or even colleagues. Just minutes from Nyhavn and the royal palace, it's perfectly placed for exploring the city. It's a flexible space with beds that can be made into singles or doubles, depending on your group's preference, and an additional sofa bed in the living room. This home even comes with free access to the local gym, so you can squeeze in a morning workout. It's the perfect base for an authentic city stay right in the heart of it all.

Bright House

Looking for a central location near Copenhagen's landmarks? This minimalist apartment is a great choice. In five minutes, you can walk to the Royal Palace, Nyhavn, and Strøget, the famous shopping street. The design may be pared-back, but it's done well. There's an eat-in kitchen but no proper living area, so you'll need to unwind around the table. It's also on the third floor and doesn't have a lift. Still, we think being in such a convenient spot is worth it.

Silver Elderflower

This stunning seventh-floor apartment offers the best of modern city living. It’s on Island Brygge, along the main canal of Copenhagen’s harbour, and just across the canal from the busy city centre. Walking across the pedestrian bridge, you can reach Tivoli, Kødbyen, and Town Hall Square in no time. The apartment has two terraces with canal views, with lounge furniture and an outdoor dining table. Inside, huge windows bring the views inside. This is a contemporary apartment with everything you need to make yourself at home – there’s even a wine fridge. Three guests will sleep on sofa beds in the living space, as there are only two bedrooms. 

Canalside Comfort

This simple, fuss-free apartment was designed by renowned local architect Kay Fisker in 1958. It’s functional and attractive, with modern amenities and 50s flourishes sitting side-by-side. The apartment is equipped with everything you might need for a comfortable stay in Copenhagen and even comes with free access to a local gym. In terms of location, you couldn’t ask for more – this home is just a stone’s throw from Kongens Have. Exploring the rest of the city is a breeze thanks to excellent transport links – Kongens Nytorv metro station is only an eight-minute walk away. 

Copenhagen Calm

Ideally located and only two minutes from Amalienborg Palace, this stylish and immaculate home with plenty of space. With four bedrooms, two living spaces and an open-plan kitchen/dining area, large groups will be very comfortable here. The glass-walled bedrooms might leave you feeling a little exposed, but they are a cool design feature that adds a unique feel. As well as being close to the Queen's winter residence, you're also only a five-minute walk from the iconic canalside district of Nyhavn. It's the perfect place to while away a long summer's evening. Either with a cold one on the quayside like the locals or at one of the many restaurants overlooking the old tall ships.

Order of the Elephant

Situated just one street from The Lakes, this penthouse apartment is perfectly positioned for waterfront strolls, coffees and drinks. This modern Scandi-style apartment is ideal for groups wanting to maximise their time both out and in, with a central location and a contemporary sociable space. If you’re visiting as a group of eight, two guests will sleep on the living area sofa bed, so you might need to call it early some nights. But then again, with plenty of bars and concert venues nearby, we’re sure you'll spend your evenings out experiencing the Copenhagen culture. 

Lake Haven

A whirlwind of green hues, this snug home brings an instant smile to our faces. It's warm and comfortable, with a large dining table perfect for sharing family meals and a cosy sitting area where you can kick back and relax with a glass of wine and Netflix. A small collection of books and board games only add to the homey feel, as do the large windows which flood the lounge with natural light. One of the bedrooms is rather tiny and the bathroom isn't the biggest we've seen, but the brilliant location more than makes up for it. We love this area's historic charm and quiet streets, yet buzzing restaurants, cafes and shops are all a short stroll away. You're also within walking distance to many of Copenhagen's most beloved sights – Amalienborg Palace, Nyhavn, The Little Mermaid, Frederik's Church, you name it, chances are you can get to it easily. Best of all? The Danish queen lives just down the road, so if it's good enough for royalty, it's good enough for us.

You don’t need us to tell you that there’s plenty to do here but if you’re looking for recommendations, why not wander over to the terraces at Sankt Annæ for a light breakfast before making your way to Jægersborggade for a spot of boutique shopping? Whether you choose to spend all day sightseeing or sampling delicious food at one of Copenhagen’s many high-end restaurants, you’ll love coming home to your sleek apartment and enjoying a well-deserved glass of wine on the terrace before turning in for the night. Both Masculine and Scandinavian, Cowboy Poetry has a lot to offer, especially in terms of its appealing location in posh Frederiksberg.
