But with traditional touches and a Scandi-style wood burner, it manages to be cosy too. Set in the small, family-friendly village of Benitachell, there are hiking trails close by, from where you can admire even more stunning scenery, and the beach is a mere five-minute drive away.

This Costa Blanca home is ideal for families, with cots and high chairs available to rent to make travelling fuss-free. The villa sits just 3 kilometres from Cala Moraig beach, and 5 kilometres from Moraira in a plot facing the sea. The views of the bay are wonderful, with the terrace the perfect spot for sunset. Inside, the villa is simple and fresh, allowing the view to take centre stage. If you want to get around easily, we recommend hiring a car.

White-pillared and glass-fronted, this spectacular villa juts out of the mountain like a princess-cut diamond on a gold band. Sharp lines and clean spaces characterise this modern home, from the cavernous living room with its all-cream furniture and UFO-shaped skylights to the bright bedrooms. Artwork, in stark contrast, is bold with huge colourful prints hung in each room. We won't be surprised if you miss all those details, however, as it's the views that will have you enraptured. Looking out over the Mediterranean ocean, the home has floor-to-ceiling windows for uninterrupted panoramas – from the master bed when you wake up to your mid-afternoon soak in the standalone bathtub. Head out for a closer inspection, with a blue infinity pool to make you feel like you're floating, while the upstairs balcony is unbeatable for watching the sunset.

This holiday villa has its own heated pool and great views of the sea from its balcony. Spread over two floors, it might not be the best choice for less mobile guests. With bikes available for free and a range of children's equipment available to rent, we think this home is great for families with young children. Within a twenty-minute walk, you'll reach the nearest beaches and central Moraira, known for its historic castle and great restaurants.

Set far enough back from Arenal beachfront to avoid the hustle and bustle, yet with the sandy shores a mere five-minute walk away, this apartment treats you to the best of both worlds. While the view from the private balcony is out onto the road and apartments opposite, you can still enjoy a peek of the sea. It’s also a nice spot for an evening glass of sangria. And if you need to cool off but don’t fancy the beach, the communal pool is just the ticket for a refreshing dip.

This is a villa that will have even the most hard-to-please guests grinning. A lot of that is down to its fabulous views of the glistening Mediterranean and Isla del Portitxol, but special praise also goes to the peaceful swimming pool surrounded by treetops and the covered terrace complete with an alfresco dining table. Although some of the bathrooms are a little dated, we've only got kind words for the three-level layout – we particularly love the main bedroom with a sea-facing balcony. To top it all off, you don't have far to venture for beautiful gold-sand beaches, either.

A ten-minute drive from the centre of Javea, this charming villa offers sun, relaxation and access to Spain’s beautiful Costa Blanca. Golf courses, horseriding and hiking in the hills are all on offer from your doorstep. While the furnishings aren’t the most modern – plastic chairs outside and a fairly sparse living area inside – the peaceful location is what drew us to this villa. Plus, the swimming pool is vast, there’s a charm to the living room with its traditional fireplace and the kitchen has everything you need for self-catering.

Better yet, take a quick wander downhill to the sandy strand, taking a dip in the water and drying off on a deck chair. Head back up to the home for a quick siesta on the sofa – keep the French doors open to let the sea breeze soothe you to sleep. When you wake up, freshen up in the swimming pool before sundowners on the terrace – the views of the sunset on the horizon leave a lasting impression.

Boasting gorgeous views, a private pool, and space for alfresco dining, this villa guarantees a stylish stay. It's not suitable for young children due to the lack of fencing in the some of the outdoor areas and the pool, but there are ground-floor bedrooms and bathrooms, and a double sofa bed for some extra flexibility in the sleeping arrangements. We highly recommend having a car here, but it's not far to drive into the centre of Jávea or the nearby golf course. Further away, you'll find spectacular days out in the bustling city of Alicante and its beautiful beaches.

It’s also family-friendly with cots and high chairs available on request and a children’s zone in the swimming pool. You will need a car to get around here, but it’s just 5 kilometres to the beach and the centre of Jávea. 

Serene Escape

Jutting out on the coast, between Alicante and Valencia, the region of Cap Martí offers rugged coastlines, marinas, and rocky shores with panoramic views. While you might want to simply gaze out from one of the many miradors, small towns are also peppered across the area. This Adsubia home is just an eleven-minute drive from beaches like Platja del Portixol, but you don’t even need to go that far to relax in the water.

As soon as you arrive, it’s hard to ignore the huge private pool set on an elevated terrace, surrounded by an elegant balustrade. In these vast grounds, you can also wander through the lawns of your lush garden, where colourful native flowers climb stone walls and palms sway in the breeze.

If it gets too hot, sip chilled local wine under the shaded terrace. You might fancy a siesta in the bamboo dining chairs in the heat of the day, but as the evening chill sets in, the interiors are truly welcoming. The real show-stealer, though, is the upper terrace, which makes the perfect spot for breakfast (pan con tomate, anyone?) or dinner with a view. If you visit the fish auction that takes place every afternoon in Javea’s bustling port area – just a 15-minute drive away from your perch in the coastal district of Balcón al Mar. Situated just a short drive from the coastal town of Moraira, this modern villa is a great base for a family stay on the Costa Blanca. You’ll need a car to reach the beach and explore the local area, but you’ll also have fabulous sea views to take advantage of back home. Our eye was immediately drawn to the outdoor areas – hello, private pool – and the villa's stylish and light-filled interiors are the icing on the cake. There are some steep stairs to climb inside, though – it may not suit guests with reduced mobility.

We love how well-positioned this apartment is. You’re just a short walk from the sands of Platja de l'Arenal – pick up a few delicacies and enjoy a picnic on the beach or sample the local cuisine from one of the town’s authentic sea-grazing tavernas.

The historic town of Javea, with its many shops, restaurants and tapas bars, is a 10km drive away and if you fancy eating in, your host can help arrange a cooking service so you won’t have to lift a finger.

Rarely veering from a black-and-white colour scheme, the interior of this apartment is solid, if a little unremarkable, when taken on its own merits. Thankfully, there are lots of outdoor amenities that bump it up the pecking order. Not far from the golden sand beaches and secret coves of Costa Blanca, this home is a slice of serenity on the Spanish coast. Thick wooden oak beams, white arched walls, and pastoral paintings give the space a traditional feel. There are some quirky stylings too: the candy pink bathroom with its jet tub feels very 50s, as do the cream sofas in the large living space. There's oodles of space for groups, though we suspect most of your time will be spent outside. Nab your spot on a sun lounger by the long pool or wander through the verdant gardens to find a stone pergola – perfect for siestas. There are several good restaurants within easy walking distance, but with such a peaceful location, we prefer to stock up on local goodies and feast while seated on the wrought-iron furniture back at the home.

This beautifully-styled home offering panoramic sea views deserves to be at the top of your list if you’re looking for a home just footsteps from the beach. The sandy shores of Granadella, with its seafront restaurants, are just a flip-flop away. A great choice for friends or couples sharing, each bedroom offers direct access to the top-floor balconies, so there's no need to tussle for the best room. While that private pool and sun-kissed terrace for alfresco barbecues are all about socialising. It’s worth noting that while the hillside setting is magnificent, you’ll need to navigate a steep driveway. However, there’s roadside parking for the less confident drivers out there.

With sea views and plenty of spots to soak up the rays, this villa makes an ideal Costa Blanca retreat. Everyone will enjoy the swimming pool, while the covered terrace and sun-kissed sitting area are perfect for dinner and drinks in the coastal breeze. Sure, the design isn't the most modern, but there's a lot of room to spread out inside – not to mention it's kitted out with everything you need for a fuss-free stay. A car is a must here, as this home is located in the hills above the town. Still, it's just a short drive to Jávea's beaches, restaurants, and buzzing centre.

Come and sunbathe on Platja de l'Ampolla before driving inland to Costa Blanca's most famous climb at Coll de Rates.
