We think families will have a blast here – your host can provide a free cot to make travelling with little ones a breeze, though children will need supervision around the unfenced infinity pool. There's plenty of outdoor seating on the astroturf for sunbathing and enjoying a drink by the summer kitchen, and lots of space to park. We think you'll need a car here to get the most out of this fantastic location – the city of Murcia is around an hour away, along with the region's golden coastline.

Wake up early and take in the golden morning sunshine on the terracotta tiled patio before serving up a family continental breakfast with café con leches in the garden. You will feel surrounded by nature here, with plenty of lush green spaces to enjoy. The star of the show is the swimming pool area though, which has palm trees dotted all around looking like they're part of a tropical chess board. We guarantee you'll be spending your afternoons here splashing around and making memories under the swaying palms.

The inside of the home itself is a lovely blend of modern furnishings mixed with traditional features. You probably won't be spending much of your time inside on the hot days, but during the cold nights, you can look forward to snuggling up around the lounge woodburner while sharing stories. When looking to venture outside of this wonderful home, you'll be glad to know you're in a prime location to take advantage of the area. It won't take you long to be swimming in the Meditteranean – Guardamar del Segura beach is only 13km away. Trips into the city of Murcia are a must too. It's not too far by car, and when you're there, you'll be able to wander its historic streets and admire its beautiful architecture. Murcia is a great day out for the whole family.

There's always the chance of hearing some noise from neighbours, so if you're a light sleeper it may be worth packing earplugs. It's plain to see that somebody with a real eye for design has worked their magic on this townhouse found in the coastal town of Calp. Everywhere you look inside, there are tasteful touches, from the dining table made from a repurposed door and the unashamedly bright colours on the walls to the sheer range of objets d'art dotted about the home.

We're also happy to say that there's plenty of substance behind this style. The sleek black kitchen not only looks the part, but it's also well-equipped for whipping up a feast. We're also fond of the terrace, which has views out over the rooftops and verdant hillsides beyond.

When you're ready to get to know the locale a little better, you'll be surprised at how much there is to see. All of three minutes' walk from the home is Torreó de la Peça, the centuries-old defensive walls built to protect the town from marauders. Arena-Bol beach is a ten-minute walk, while further along the coastline, it's possible to head up to the top of Penyal d'Ifac in just over an hour on foot for some incredible views.

Marina Alta is a coastal region that can please just about everyone  – from history buffs to beach bums, and hikers to urbanites, this region of Spain isn’t just all about waterside delights. Just a ten-minute drive inland from the picturesque town of Altea (and don’t worry, you will pass beaches en route), you’ll love unwinding in this zen-like villa. 

Traditional whitewashed walls and a terracotta roof are right on par with what you might expect in the area. But as you step inside, passing interesting shrubbery and succulents outside, the vibe is altogether more modern. We love the fresh and bright living space, with a cherry-red sofa suite and an ornately carved, wooden cabinet. Oversized bamboo canes and a woven lampshade complete the look as you move to the sunroom – a striking cylindrical structure that really sets the architecture apart from rustic traditions.

From here, peer out to your secluded gardens. Lush, green, and shaded by palms, the immaculate lawn surrounds a private, heated pool. Wander around to find orange trees popping up in the grass, and terracotta tiles leading up a staircase to the roof terrace – it's much easier to survey your kingdom from up here.

La Taronja

This modern villa is the perfect retreat for those looking for a restful break. You’re a little further removed from the touristy areas here, which means you can really unwind. We recommend hiring a car or two to make the most of your time here – there are golf courses and beaches to discover. There’s plenty of room for you to spend time together at the villa, though two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room – it’s still a comfy spot. We love the terrace for alfresco dining, and the private pool is sure to please.

Set moments away from Villajoyosa, with its quaint Old Town and pristine sandy beach, Palmitas offers the ideal holiday escape for anyone looking to combine sun and sea with a taste of Spanish culture. The rooftop terrace is the standout here, complete with a barbecue and an alfresco dining area, it's ideal for those looking to bask in the balmy summer evenings. Location-wise, you’ll find the beach is just a short walk away, while restaurants and shops are also within easy reach.

For a one-of-a-kind experience, make the drive to Baños de la Reina, where you can swim and snorkel in the majestic crystal-clear pools carved from the rock.

This no-frills apartment is just 150 metres from the sandy shores of Benidorm's Playa de Levante. The location in the old town is fantastic – restaurants, shops, and bars are all steps away – though that does mean it can get a little noisy at night. Back home, there isn't any outdoor space, but the floor-to-ceiling windows act as an internal balcony, making it an excellent spot to savour a glass of wine and watch the world pass by. One guest will sleep on a sofa bed, and only the living area has air conditioning (the bedrooms have fans). That said, it does the trick for a central pad a short stroll from the beach.

There’s much people-watching and sea-admiring to be done from the veranda of this chic beachside apartment, perched just five metres from the golden shores and impossibly blue sea of Levante Beach.

Housed in a towering high-rise (that’s where the Benidorm clichés end), inside this swish apartment dazzles in crisp white and marble-clad finishes with natural daylight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. And you’ll love the luxurious feel of the bedrooms bringing boutique-hotel vibes and a hydro massage shower to kick start your day.

When thoughts turn to food, cooking is a joy in that made-for-action designer kitchen with a breakfast bar for guests to perch and keep the nominated chef of your crew company. Or get your glad rags on and stroll along the seafront for dinner in Benidorm’s pretty Old Town. Time it right, and you’ll be rewarded with the most magnificent sunsets from the Mirador, where the castle once stood.

An ideal setting for large family gatherings, this sprawling homestead is made up of four separate buildings. Alongside the main house, there's a casita ideal for kids and a wooden lodge for those wanting extra privacy – though some people will sleep on sofa beds. Our favourite is the summer kitchen, where all twenty-three guests can tuck into tapas together. The pool will also be a big hit, even if there are only eight loungers. Location-wise, you'll be 22 kilometres from the beach in Guardamar del Segura. Also within driving distance is Alicante if you want to explore further afield.

Alicante Enchantress

Enjoying an enviable position on Spain’s Costa Blanca, this vibrant home is within easy walking distance of Calpe’s best beaches. Cala La Calalga’s the closest, but the others are worth a visit too – not to mention, you’re just a short drive from Penyal d'Ifac Natural Park, one of the most scenic hiking spots this side of the Balearic. There’s nothing noteworthy about this home’s interior, but there’s plenty of space for a large group to spread out. And although not every room benefits from air conditioning, there’s a private pool at your disposal if you need to cool down when temperatures reach their peak.

Dreams of Amarillo

Situated within walking distance of Calpe town centre and its sandy beach, shops and restaurant, this convenient villa invites guests to soak up the Alicante sunshine in a laid-back fuss-free setting. Here, you'll have your own private swimming pool and a lawned garden space featuring an alfresco dining area, barbecue, plenty of loungers, and outdoor seating. While the decor may be slightly dated, the modern furnishings ensure a comfortable stay with a touch of authentic Valencian charm. Here, you’ll have access to a huge range of shared facilities. The swimming pools are all lush for cooling off from the hot Spanish sunshine, while the hot tubs and sauna are great places to relax and de-stress. There’s a tennis court for when you fancy a few games, as well as ping pong tables for more casual fun. There’s also an on-site shared gym so you can keep up with your fitness routine. 

The complex is based right next to Poniente beach, so you’re just a stone’s throw away from beautiful white sands, palm trees and blue seas. There are plenty of lovely restaurants along the beachfront serving up authentic Spanish cuisine, plus welcoming bars where you can enjoy a glass of Sangria in the sunshine.

Though the style is on the simpler side, it has everything a family or small group needs for a memorable Mediterranean retreat. This spacious and well-located villa is split across two floors, creating two separate apartments – each with its own entrance. Both levels have their own bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining area, and swimming pool – one on each side of the property. We think it's an excellent option for two families or a large group of friends holidaying together in Calp. The interiors are quite basic and the decor is dated – but there's plenty of room here and the home has all of the necessary amenities you need for a comfortable self-catered stay. We recommend a car for ease – some beautiful sandy beaches are just a short drive away.

Coastal Refuge

Located just a short walk from the sandy beaches of Calpe and the coastal peak of Penyal d'Ifac Natural Park, this modern villa with views of the mountains provides a seamless mix of indoor and outdoor living. The home centres around the ample garden with its modern pool, alfresco diner, and external lounge that connects via sliding glass doors to the comfortable living room, making the perfect social space to enjoy sunny afternoons and evenings. Each of the bedrooms also features access to their own balcony or patio, adding an extra sense of privacy and luxury.

A Tip of the Calpe

With amazing panoramic views of the sea and Benidorm – this apartment is the ideal beach getaway. Open the sliding doors and let the sun and the sea air in while you eat in the airy dining area. This home can sleep six, but two people would be on a sofa bed in the living room so if you want ample living space, we’d say this home is better suited to four guests. The absolute highlight for us, though, is that it’s just 50 metres from the golden sands of Playa de Levante.

Just a stone's throw from Benidorm's city centre, this apartment connects you to everything from gastropubs to brasseries and coffee shops. But where's the beach, you say? You'll stumble into the surf in under ten minutes walk. Though the home's living spaces might feel a little cramped for six, there's a balcony to escape onto for fresh air and beautiful ocean views. For even more breathing room, wander down to the communal pool and poolside seating or take the little ones to the play area.

The coastal town of Calp is a real glistening pearl of the Marina Alta province. With archaeological sites and historic fortresses sitting alongside bustling streets of cafés and bars, this town is a vibrant community in the sun – and of course there’s a fabulous beach. Just a six-minute walk from Playa el Arenal-Bol, this modern apartment is a perfect urban retreat. 

Looking up from below at this striking white building, it almost has the nautical feel of a towering, luxury yacht. It has curved balconies and railings wrapping around every floor, and glass doors letting the sunlight flood in at every level – but at the very bottom, the swimming pool adds to this marina vibe. Let the kids splash about here (or roam the playground, or play table tennis) while you head to the sixth floor to check out the interiors.

Fresh, bright, and modern, the living space has a Scandi rather than Spanish feel. Wooden floors and minimalist furniture look classy in the lounge, while sleek white cabinets bring a clean, futuristic look to the kitchen. This seafront apartment boasts direct access to Levante Beach and a communal swimming pool. The views are lovely, and the sand is steps away, though the location does mean you can expect some outside noise. That said, parties and loud groups aren't allowed, so we think couples, friends, and families will settle right in. Your host can provide a cot and high chair for little ones, while the kitchen is more than equipped for whipping up large family meals. On-site parking is also available, but public transport is easily accessible for exploring all Benidorm has to offer.

Seaside Escape

This family-friendly apartment with lovely views over the Benidorm coastline is a comfy place to base yourself while you enjoy a Costa Blanca holiday.
