Staying in Mar Diagonal is not the obvious choice for everyone, but if you want a more relaxed, beachy atmosphere, it’s hard to beat this apartment. The building is impressive enough in itself, and the fact that every room has a sea view is not to be sniffed at. While the design of the place is simple, even bordering on sparse, the way that the windows frame that view mitigates what could otherwise be seen as a slight lack of inspiration. Getting into the city is easy enough on the metro, but it’s about an hour on foot to Plaça de Catalunya.

Looking to the African desert for design inspiration, this Eixample apartment is dominated by earthy tones, natural materials and a few houseplants to add a burst of bright colour. Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

While famed architectural marvels like the Sagrada Família are a twenty-minute drive away, this apartment is a dream for lovers of golden shores and turquoise waters – the beachfront is right opposite. You can walk to Platja de la Nova Mar Bella in just eight minutes, and admire views of its glistening waters from this glass-clad abode. With palm trees lining the road as you arrive at this modern building, there’s a beach-resort vibe that feels a world away from the hectic city centre. Inside, you’ll be wowed by the fresh, clean, and sleek interiors of the enormous open-plan living space. White is the dominant colour, illuminated further by floor-to-ceiling glass windows and sliding doors to private terraces and balconies. It’s a home that makes you feel like a VIP, especially with the services your host offers. Since Barcelona doesn't have a lot of beachside apartments, there's a zone right across the road from it, where modern high rises offer a brilliant view of the sea and the developing Poblenou. Maresme is only a few minutes away from the beach, but you'll need to take the nearby metro to get to Eixample. In the summer, this home really comes alive with a whole extra lounge and dining area on the balcony that overlooks Nova Mar Bella beach. But even in the winter, the elegant design creates a pleasant atmosphere.

It's clear that Gingerbread Cinder was designed by a professional – original vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls are a challenge to pull off, but these guys succeeded using minimal, high-quality furniture. This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. Located in Barcelona's 'it' neighbourhood El Born, you'll be within walking distance to the most famous sights, as well as local hidden gems.

Located in the heart of the artsy Poblenou neighbourhood, this laid-back apartment has all you need to make the most of your time away in Barcelona. Inside, it’s effortlessly styled – think white-washed brick, exposed timber beams and polished concrete floors. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

This Eastern-inspired home in Barcelona feels a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Step inside, and you'll instantly feel at ease, thanks to the neutral colour palette and simple yet stylish design. Fabulously located in the heart of Eixample, within easy walking distance of many of Barcelona's key sights, with a beautiful living space full of lovely period details and a spacious master-bedroom with its own private terrace, this home is a delight. Bedrooms two and three are both extremely small, but we won't hold this against an otherwise fab home. The living space might just be home to the most beautiful flooring in the Plum Collection – we are obsessed!

You're in for a treat with a stay at this contemporary apartment perched along a handsome leafy avenue of the well-heeled Eixample district. Home to Gaudí's architectural gems, haute couture shops, and Michelin star restaurants, they call this neck of the woods Quadrat d'Or (Golden Square) for a good reason.

Back at home, the pristine, uncluttered interiors will appeal to all you minimalists out there. Flooded with natural daylight thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, it feels like a breath of fresh air to return to after a day soaking up all that Gaudi extravagance in the streets below.

Drop your bags in the spacious hallway, grab a glass of something crisp (the complimentary chilled wine will help with that), then fling the balcony doors open wide to watch the grand avenue of Gran Via bustle below. One of Barcelona's longest boulevards crossing right through the city, it's an impressive sight to behold. And thanks to its elevated position on the fifth floor, the spacious bedrooms feel surprisingly quiet at night with the windows closed and the black-out blinds drawn.

Here, you're surrounded by a delightful array of boutiques and eateries and within walking distance of the main sights. Go shopping on Passeig de Gràcia, picnic in Ciutadella Park or marvel at the Sagrada Familia – all less than a twenty-minute stroll from your doorstep. 

Inside, spacious rooms flaunt high ceilings, large windows and stylish decor, while contemporary amenities promise a want-for-nothing stay. We especially love the balcony. Offering leafy views, this is the perfect place to sunbathe. Home chefs will appreciate the fully-equipped kitchen, where a breakfast bar beckons for mornings roosted here, sipping quick coffees before slipping out for breakfast – we recommend the croissants from the little cafe downstairs.

We didn't expect to find a home like this in an unassuming building like the one that hides the Trojan Horse. It's obvious that an interior designer was involved in the curation of this stylish home — there's a consistent theme of industrial chic, that's best expressed by the bare brick wall and sleek lampshades. There's an abundance of natural light with two balconies extending the clutter-free and clean living space and helping this relatively small home maximise its assets. Find a sunny reading spot by the window on a Wegner-inspired chair and gather around the vibrant dining area for convivial coffee and churros – we loved the bright yellow chairs. Both bedrooms benefit from tasteful scatter cushions, throws and quirky headboards that make for a light and airy spot to relax with a magazine. From Gràcia, all the major sights are well within walking distance, including the Sagrada Familia under twenty minutes away. Explore the local neighbourhood, stopping off at its trendy cafes and family-run eateries – wherever you are, a jug of sangria and a plate of paella are never too far from hand.

Nestled in the Eixample neighbourhood, this home is an ideal base for those keen to drop off their cases and explore the city with ease. Perfect for couples or small families, you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay here – and nearby metro stations make hopping across the city a breeze. If you don’t feel like cooking you’ll find eateries aplenty on your doorstep, and when you crave a spot of greenery, a visit to Ciutadella Park is a must for a fresh-air stroll.

Built with respect for the environment, this bright home is an ideal base for eco-conscious guests looking for a comfortable, central stay in the city. While the home dates back to 1900, it’s been brought into sparkling 21st-style with an interior that reflects eco-design principles and respects Catalan Modernism. Outside of your home, you’re just a five-minute walk from the Arc de Triomf, a nine-minute stroll from both Plaça de Catalunya and Ciutadella Park, while La Sagrada Familia is twenty-four minutes away on foot.

We couldn’t get enough of the exposed brickwork, original ceiling beams, muted hues and abundant house plants. Furniture has been hand-selected for both style and function – tuck into homemade tapas around the Scandi dining table or get comfy with a measure of local Penedés brandy on the L-shaped couch. Bedrooms are stripped-back yet cosy, so you can guarantee a peaceful sleep night after night. When you’re done sunning yourself on Barcelona’s sandy seashore, take the leisurely thirty-minute stroll into the evocative Gothic Quarter. Enjoy a pit stop en route in Ciutadella Park and chill out with a picnic by Gaudí’s fountain.

This elegant apartment is in the centre of Barcelona, 100 metres from Las Ramblas and a short walk from Plaza de Catalunya. Bars, restaurants and shops are all on your doorstep. Apart from a full kitchen and delightful dining room inside, there’s a private terrace for evening cocktails outside. In the living room, you’ve got a dedicated laptop desk for those that need to work remotely. Despite the central location, it’s pretty quiet as the rooms look out over the terrace rather than the busy street.

We love this home in Barcelona – it boasts some of the best views over Gaudi's iconic Casa Milà and L'Eixample. Housed in a 120-year-old renovated building, floor-to-ceiling windows let the daylight in, while traditional tile details and a mixture of old and new furniture give this place soul. Prepare some tapas in the sleek, grey kitchen and enjoy at the dining table or head to L'Eixample’s celebrated dining scene, just over a five-minute walk away. If the vistas from your apartment of Casa Milà have whetted your appetite to see some more, then it's a mere three-minute stroll. Or, browse the high-end boutiques in the area, then head to La Rambla de Sant Jose (also known as La Rambla de les Flors) and pick up some flowers. You'll undoubtedly be glad you picked this apartment.

The Ebony Azulejo

Two balconies – one at the front and one at the back of this apartment – provide beautiful views of the neighbourhood and you can even see a little bit of the sea on sunny days. Up on the top floor, natural light floods the rooms. The open living space in soft grey and teal velvet is particularly sunny. Glass doors lead out to the front terrace where waxy green banana leaves sprout from planters and dining is set for four. There’s a lazy hammock in the corner too, so you can take in that rooftop view all the way to the Sagrada Familia. You'll be able to plan your holiday from the comfort of the terrace as Barcelona spreads like a map before you. Located only minutes away from Plaça Catalunya, you'll have easy access to all parts of the city. 

Phrenology

If you're planning a fantastic trip to the vibrant city of Barcelona, you can't go wrong with this lavish apartment. Located in the Eixample district, one of the city's best-loved areas, it's the perfect place to kick back and relax between your sightseeing trips. 

The apartment is super spacious, with room for up to eight guests to settle in and get comfortable. You'll love the traditional touches throughout the home, from the wooden ceiling beams and the patterned tiles to the huge windows with sage green shutters. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook up a delicious feast using fresh local ingredients – don't forget a bottle of Rioja to accompany your meal. And there's no better place to relax at the end of a busy day than the large private balcony – get comfortable and watch the world go by below. 

Eixample is known for its grand boulevards and elegant architecture which houses a range of independent restaurants and boutiques. Fans of Gaudí's work will be delighted that the iconic Sagrada Familia is less than ten minutes away on foot, and Casa Mila is the same distance away in the opposite direction. And, if you want to explore other parts of the city, you can take the metro from Verdaguer Station – it's just a five-minute stroll away.

You'll find this tranquil apartment just down the street from Sagrada Familia, one of Gaudí's (and Barcelona's) most iconic buildings. To be so close to such an architectural marvel is quite special, and although you're a little further away from the more bustling and tourist-heavy spots, we think the sight of those church spires more than makes up for it. When you do fancy heading to the centre, however, hop on the metro at Sagrada Familia station and you'll arrive at Plaça de Catalunya in less than fifteen minutes. 

Following a wander around the city, return to this homey apartment and kick back with a glass of sangria. The squishy sofa is just what the doctor ordered after a long day on your feet, while the bright dining area is the perfect spot to indulge in some homemade tapas when you're in the mood to cook. 

Two sleek bathrooms complete with rainfall showers ensure nobody needs to queue, and complimentary cots and high chairs make this an excellent option for those travelling with little ones. All in all, we found this to be a lovely space for a small family to unwind at the end of each day.

The northeastern region of Sant Andreu might not be on your radar, but this fabulously unknown spot is perfect for escaping the city’s throngs of tourists, while still having easy access to all the action. In this serene, village-like area with a traditional Catalan vibe, your apartment is just a six-minute stroll from the Fabra i Puig metro (meaning you’ll be at the Sagrada Familia in just fifteen minutes). Heading inside, white walls create a bright, fresh feel to the main living space. With sunlight flooding in through floor-to-ceiling windows, and French doors opening onto a leafy, private balcony, the whole space feels airy and relaxed. As you can step outside from either of the large, modern bedrooms – each with their own unique, decorative headboard – it’s the perfect spot to gather everyone in the morning with an espresso. Head down into the peaceful streets to find local delights like the Parish of Sant Pacià, eleven minutes away. The ubiquitous work of Gaudí made it out to Sant Andreu, where he designed the ornate mosaic floor of this neo-gothic church. This is truly a place where you can discover hidden details off the tourist track.

Ronda Universitat is close to Plaça Catalunya and the Modernist sights of Eixample. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. And of course, if you do plan on venturing further afield in the city, you'll have bus stops and metro stations within less than five minutes reach too.

This apartment is on one of Barcelona's most fashionable boulevards, close to Las Ramblas and the late-night tapas bars of the Gothic Quarter. Passeig de Gràcia with its shops, restaurants and bars, is just a five-minute walk away. There’s a sense of old-world grandeur inside thanks to chandeliers and corniced ceilings, in keeping with the historic building. The apartment is family-sized, but might feel cramped at capacity with three in one bedroom and two on the sofa bed in the living room. A steady theme of chocolatey tones paired with minimalistic furnishings made us feel like we were in the home of a deep thinker. Still, there are small details that breathe some warmth into the flat – the Catalan hydraulic tiles on the floor, the modern art on the walls, and the red velvet seats on the balcony. The balcony has a perfect people-watching view over the leafy boulevard below. The kitchen as black as backstage at a theatre and dramatically downlit, but it's not all style over substance as the cupboards are packed with everything you could want for self-catering. Should you need to catch up on work, the second bedroom doubles as an office. When it comes to clocking off you couldn't be better placed with Passeig de Gracia one block away, where Gaudí's masterpiece 'La Pedrera' and famous hotels like Omm and Hotel Casa Fuster reside. The apartment itself is in the 'Cuadrat d'Or' (Golden Square), an area packed with bars, restaurants and high-end shops galore.
