Ideally situated a short walk from Nova Mar Bella Beach, this apartment is a comfortable base to return to after exploring Barcelona’s coastline. If you need to head into the city proper, Selva de Mar metro station is only five minutes away. When the sofa bed is in use, there’s limited social space in the living area. Fortunately, guests staying here have access to a furnished, communal roof terrace – perfect for relaxing with a tipple in the sunshine. 

Marítimo

People stay in Diagonal Mar for one very clear reason – the sea. There are a few nice places to eat and shop, but nothing compared to the riches of Eixample, leaving The Sound of Crashing Waves as a home that will appeal to those who come to the city for a proper holiday. The interior design is minimal but does wonder together with the natural light, and the wrap-around balcony. The sleek and well-equipped kitchen will make for great cooking, and, if you need to get some work done, there's a little nook for that, too.

Staying in this part of town has the obvious advantage of being close to the beach – in the absence of beachside hotels in Barcelona, homes like Indigo Star are the closest you get to waking up and stepping right into the sand. Sightseeing in Eixample will take a longer commute, but if you're in town to relax in a simple (and yet perfectly cosy) home, then this is a good way to go. Indigo star has a certain homey quality that makes for a comfortable stay.

Indigo Star

Once an industrial area, Poblenou has gone (and continues to go) through a transformation, bringing art and leisure into the neighbourhood. If you're here for the beach, then this home is close to perfect – Playa Bogatell is a ten-minute walk away. There are stairs in this home and no ramp, so it's not the best option for those with limited mobility or heavy luggage, but the layout of the home itself is handled extremely well. The upstairs even has a balcony overlooking the living room, which is one of the many cosy spots to enjoy a coffee and conversation. 

Glimmering Granite

Hidden away in a beautiful square just a short walk from the beach, this beautifully curated apartment offers more than just a touch of Mediterranean magic. 

Awash with shades of blue and dazzling white, you’ll feel perfectly at ease in the bright living area, whether you’re kicking back on the sofa with a glass of Spanish red or gathering around the dining table for a celebratory meal. Our favourite feature here, however, is the sunny private balcony. The ideal spot for an alfresco breakfast or a sunset glass of Vermouth, you’ll love feeling the breeze tinged with salt from the nearby sea. 

With two beautiful beach-inspired bedrooms to boot – not to mention a pair of stunning tiled showers to wake up to each day – you’ve got everything you need for a carefree time. 

When it comes to exploring nearby, make a beeline for the beach (less than a ten-minute walk away) or stroll along lively Rambla del Poblenou to soak up your neighbourhood’s atmosphere. You’ve also got a wealth of restaurants, bakeries and bars to explore on your doorstep – many of which come personally recommended by your host – as well as plenty of cultural and historic sights in the wider city, easily accessed on foot or by public transport. 

Mediterranean Marvel

With direct sea views, garden, pool and kids' play area/pool, as well as easy access to transportation to the rest of this beautiful city, this home really has everything to offer for a relaxed and fun-filled city break. All guests need to do is kick off their shoes and listen to the gentle and melodic crash of waves in the background as they enjoy their morning coffee out on the balcony, watching as seagulls fly overhead. Children will have the time of their lives playing in the pool and play area, and when it's time to head on out to explore, guests will be spoilt for choice as the nearby Metro station connects the area to the rest of the city, making sightseeing easier than ever. 

Spend your days relaxing and soaking up those delicious Spanish rays at the neighbouring beach, which can be reached in as little as a ten-minute stroll, while the stunningly unique architecture that Barcelona is so famous for can be seen in the same amount of time. For those looking to spend the day shopping, dining and wine tasting, your neighbourhood of Diagonal Mar, as well as the cultural melting pot of La Rambla are the perfect spots, and if you're looking to venture out further afield for something truly spectacular, we highly recommend The Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, which can be reached in a thirty-minute drive, or forty minutes by public transport.

Fractal

This is a home for beach lovers. Located in the rapidly developing Diagonal Mar, Cream Vista is all about sleek lines and minimalist furniture. As there are transparent surfaces in the communal area of this home, some might feel a bit exposed in the absence of curtains. But the big windows do have their perks, as you'll realise as soon as you wake up the sunrise. You'll need to take a train to get to Eixample, but we suppose when the beach is this close, the sightseeing can wait a little bit. 

Cream Vista

Since Barcelona doesn't have a lot of beachside apartments, there's a zone right across the road from it, where modern high rises offer a brilliant view of the sea and the developing Poblenou. Maresme is only a few minutes away from the beach, but you'll need to take the nearby metro to get to Eixample. In the summer, this home really comes alive with a whole extra lounge and dining area on the balcony that overlooks Nova Mar Bella beach. But even in the winter, the elegant design creates a pleasant atmosphere. 

Maresme

With marble floors, ample space to play around with, and panoramic windows with some of the best views Barcelona has to offer, The Beach Lookout is perfect for those who will appreciate its majestic nature. The central sights won't be accessible on foot, but travellers who love a bit of sea breeze (which, you'll be pleased to know, does reach the terrace) will quickly fall head over heels for the nearby Platja Llevant.

Staying at Diagonal Mar is a bit different from the typical Barcelona experience of Gaudí buildings and getting lost in the cobbled passages of the Gothic Quarter. While famed architectural marvels like the Sagrada Família are a twenty-minute drive away, this apartment is a dream for lovers of golden shores and turquoise waters – the beachfront is right opposite. You can walk to Platja de la Nova Mar Bella in just eight minutes, and admire views of its glistening waters from this glass-clad abode. With palm trees lining the road as you arrive at this modern building, there’s a beach-resort vibe that feels a world away from the hectic city centre. Inside, you’ll be wowed by the fresh, clean, and sleek interiors of the enormous open-plan living space. White is the dominant colour, illuminated further by floor-to-ceiling glass windows and sliding doors to private terraces and balconies. It’s a home that makes you feel like a VIP, especially with the services your host offers. Enjoy airport pickup, followed by a welcome hamper, attraction tickets, restaurant reservations, and of course a private chef for when you’d rather sip chilled wine than make your own tapas.

Playa Sul

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city in this compact but well-equipped apartment, just a five-minute walk from the beach. While it’s not the biggest and it lacks privacy due to its proximity to neighbouring buildings, this is an ideal spot for a couple seeking a coastal stay. An added bonus is the large rooftop terrace, shared with the building’s other residents, just perfect for alfresco dining or a spot of sunbathing. For days in the city, the nearest metro is just six minutes away. 

Marítim

Staying in Mar Diagonal is not the obvious choice for everyone, but if you want a more relaxed, beachy atmosphere, it’s hard to beat Mar Terra. The building is impressive enough in itself, and the fact that every room has a sea view is not to be sniffed at. While the design of the place is simple, even bordering on sparse, the way that the windows frame that view mitigates what could otherwise be seen as a slight lack of inspiration. Getting into the city is easy enough on the metro, but it’s about an hour on foot to Plaça de Catalunya.
