This home puts Chamberí's diverse bars and shops on your doorstep. Moments from the Paseo de la Castellana, you'll have excellent public transport links too. While we love the bright interior, it may be a better pick for light packers, as there isn't a lot of space in the bedrooms for storage. It's a shame the dining area doesn't seat six, though the kitchen offers another table for two. How about sunset-watching on the balcony after a day spent exploring Madrid?

Madrid is easily explored on foot, but should you wish to hop on the metro, Noviciado and Tribunal are a few steps away. The interiors are fairly simple, though perfectly practical for a city stay. There’s a balcony for admiring the streets below, though there’s no seating out here. And while it may feel a little cramped with three guests, it’s a great option should you need flexibility.

You need only walk five minutes to the metro, where you can hop on a direct line to the centre of the city – it only takes fifteen minutes to reach attractions like Plaza de España and Parque de Atracciones. When you’re not seeing the sights, you’ll be glad to have a calm and cosy home-from-home. The apartment is on the fifth floor – there’s a lift though – and boasts a petite balcony when you want a breath of fresh air.

This villa, located in Arroyomolinos, just a few kilometres from Batres, is the perfect place for those seeking a relaxing getaway. For day trips further afield, Madrid is less than an hour’s drive away. Back at home, the saltwater pool is heated all year round, and the covered terrace and bar encourage dinner and drinks alfresco. Inside, you’ll find a sauna, a cinema area and a billiards table to keep the big and little kids entertained. At capacity, four guests will sleep on double sofa beds in the communal spaces.

This cosy, stylish apartment is a superb base for two in Madrid. It’s in the popular Delicias neighbourhood, right in the heart of Madrid. You need only walk ten minutes to reach Plaza Major and twelve minutes to Puerta del Sol. You can also easily reach the metro, so seeing further-afield sights is as easy as can be. This well-connected neighbourhood is full of bars, shops and restaurants, too, making it a convenient base for your stay – though you might want to pack earplugs.

This holiday home is a great base for families or groups of friends who don’t mind being a little further outside of Madrid. When you want to see the sights, you can walk to the Franco Rodriguez metro stop, so seeing the likes of El Retiro and Puerta del Sol is easy enough – though you’ll be staying far away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You’ll have a patio with a small private pool to cool off in, and an alfresco dining area. Four guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, which isn’t the most private setup so is probably better suited to children sharing with their parents.

There’s a sleek breakfast bar-cum-working bench, so you can sip coffee and fire off emails when work calls. Though the city is easily walkable, you’ll find metro stations within a few steps or speak to your host about private parking.

Storage is tight here and there isn't a proper wall or door to separate the bedroom from the rest of the home, but we think it's a great spot for a couple or solo traveller looking to live like a local for a weekend. While you won't find parking outside, nearby public transport will make sure you get to visit all of Madrid's best bits with ease.

From here, you’re within walking distance of restaurants, bars and iconic sights, including the Royal Palace of Madrid, Plaza Mayor and the San Fernando Fine Art Royal Academy. The apartment is modern and practical, though it does lack natural light. A fifth guest can be accommodated on the sofa bed, and the two en-suite bathrooms will help speed mornings along, so you can head out and spend more time exploring all that Madrid has to offer.

The curtains, however, don’t fully block out the sunlight, so we recommend packing an eye mask if you plan to enjoy a lie-in.

It’s in the heart of the city, with the Puerta del Sol just a few steps away. After all that exploring, you’ll be glad to know this apartment has a lift up to its entrance. That said, there are steps inside this home (just three up from the living space to the kitchen). There’s a desk in the single bedroom, too, if you need to catch up on work while away, and of course, there’s always the dining table (which seats eight guests).

And while you’ll need to climb some stairs to reach this fourth-floor pad, the stylish interiors and little balcony are a treat after a long day of sightseeing.

What a great location this apartment has in Madrid. The Royal Palace is just seven minutes on foot, while the Almudena Cathedral and the Plaza Mayor are within walking distance, too. As you'd expect from such a central location, you will hear some city noise while staying here. After all that exploring, you can sit in this home's shared courtyard and get your breath back. Inside, we love the living area's double-height ceilings and galleried landing, and there's a desk here if you need to catch up on work. We'd say the adjacent ground-floor bedroom isn't fully private, as it's a cubicle room with three-quarter-height walls – otherwise, this is a great home for couples, a family or business colleagues.

Live like a local in the neighbourhood of Ventas. The Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas is within walking distance, and there are various eateries and bars to enjoy. The area is well connected to the urban bus and metro transport network, which is handy, as most of the city's attractions are a ride away. There's a small balcony, although you may have to work out a rota system as the table here only seats two, but the dining table inside seats six people. There's also a desk in the main bedroom if you need to work from home. All in all, if you don't mind being away from the action, this is a lovely base for your Madrid adventure.

With a fantastic address, just off the Paseo de la Castellana, this apartment has a wealth of attractions nearby. The upmarket districts of Salamanca, Chamberi and Justicia are all close, so you'll have plenty of fine restaurants, chic boutiques and art galleries to enjoy. With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

If you want to stay in a prestigious neighbourhood, how about this home in Salamanca? There are plenty of designer boutiques, art galleries and fine-dining restaurants to explore in the area. Naturally, you will hear some city noise here. This south-facing apartment is light and bright, and we love the Juliet balcony off the open-plan living room with its leafy Ayala Street views. There’s not much food preparation space in the kitchen, but that said, it’s well-equipped, and you can always let your host arrange for a private chef to cook some authentic tapas dishes.

Far removed from the tourist-packed centre of Madrid, this simple Opañel home can serve as a functional base for remote workers or a family who like to enjoy a more local city experience. While the Murphy bed means you can find some extra space during the day, space is still at a premium here, with all four guests sleeping in the same room. You won't find many fine dining options close by, but the small eateries will have you eating like a local. When it's time to explore, you'll find several small parks in the area, while nearby Urgel Station connects you to the city centre.

In the heart of Madrid's Opañel neighbourhood, this practical apartment is ideal for short city stays. There's a small balcony with space to stand out and enjoy the fresh air, though the street views aren't the most exciting. The home is very small throughout, with a kitchenette and a pull-out Murphy bed in the living area, so you'll want to pack light. That said, we think it's a good choice for those travelling for work or for weekend breaks. The location means you can expect some outside noise, but you'll be near shops, restaurants, a park, and a supermarket for essentials, with public transport close by for exploring or commuting.

Situated in Opañel, this studio apartment is a fuss-free spot to enjoy Madrid. There’s private parking if you’re bringing a car along, though, with Urgel metro nearby, a car isn’t necessary. The apartment is minimal and not the most soulful, but all the mod cons are here for a practical stay. While there are sleeping arrangements for four, with a pull-out double and a sofa bed, we think this pad is better suited to two. And while the balcony views aren’t so inspired, it’s still a great spot for sharing a drink after a day of sightseeing.

Opañel Olé

Far removed from the tourist hotspots of Madrid, this functional apartment in Opañel is an ideal base for remote workers who want to see another side of the city. You've got everything you need for extended stays here, and despite this being a studio apartment, the raisable bed offers a bit more space during the day.  Plus, convenience is on your side with Urgel Station just a short stroll away, granting you swift access to the heart of Madrid in under twenty minutes, along with the several parks within walking distance.

If you place a premium on functionality, we might just have the home for you. This simple Madrid apartment in Opañel isn't winning any design awards and you'll be sleeping on a raisable bed, but it has everything needed for an extended stay – we think it's ideal for remote workers. The area is local in feel and certainly isn't glamorous, but it does offer a slice of life if you prefer to be far away from touristy spaces. That said, Urgel Station is a short walk away – from here, you can be in the centre of Madrid in less than twenty minutes.

Located close to Central Madrid, though far enough away from the hustle, this functional studio is the ideal base for city breakers. Being so close to the city, you can easily drive or hop on the metro from Urgel, just a short walk away. Back at home, there are all the mod cons you need, with a laptop-friendly table for remote workers. Keep in mind the bed is a Murphy bed, so you’ll need to transform the space come bedtime, and while we think this pad is best suited to two, there is a handy sofa bed for a third and fourth guest.

Opañel Gem

This studio in Opañel is for those seeking a quieter neighbourhood but within easy reach of Central Madrid. From here, you’re just a short drive from the inner city and within walking distance of Urgel metro station. The balcony is a nice spot for morning coffees, though keep in mind there’s no seating out here. Inside, the space is minimal and equipped for all your needs – the high-top table will appeal to remote workers, and the sofa bed will accommodate two extra guests. That said, this studio is on the smaller side, and we think it’s best suited for two.

A Retreat in Opañel

Living like a local and function meet in this studio flat in Madrid's Opañel district, with everything you need for an extended stay – ideal if you're a remote worker or someone who doesn't want to be on top of the touristy parts of town. With both beds in the same room, the home is best suited to families, and space is limited – though with a sofa bed and a Murphy bed, you can create extra space during the day. In the local area are several parks and local eateries, while the nearby Urgel Station connects you to the city centre in less than twenty minutes.
