Though it isn't the most charming space, it is well-kept and comfortable for a couple or solo wanderer. It can also sleep two more guests on the sofa bed, but it would make it a little less private and a little more cramped. Still, you have a balcony with outdoor seating when you need breathing room. An eight-minute walk will get you to Nueva Numancia, where public transport can help with your exploring needs.

Keep in mind that some noise should be expected here, but we think it's a small price to pay for this central spot. You'll find a great selection of restaurants on your doorstep if you'd like to sample the local cuisine, but if you'd prefer to dine in, the kitchen is well-equipped for homemade tapas.

If you place a premium on functionality, we might just have the home for you. This simple Madrid apartment in Opañel isn't winning any design awards and you'll be sleeping on a raisable bed, but it has everything needed for an extended stay – we think it's ideal for remote workers. The area is local in feel and certainly isn't glamorous, but it does offer a slice of life if you prefer to be far away from touristy spaces. That said, Urgel Station is a short walk away – from here, you can be in the centre of Madrid in less than twenty minutes. 



Life Changes

Located close to Central Madrid, though far enough away from the hustle, this functional studio is the ideal base for city breakers. Being so close to the city, you can easily drive or hop on the metro from Urgel, just a short walk away. Back at home, there are all the mod cons you need, with a laptop-friendly table for remote workers. Keep in mind the bed is a Murphy bed, so you’ll need to transform the space come bedtime, and while we think this pad is best suited to two, there is a handy sofa bed for a third and fourth guest.

Opañel Gem

This studio in Opañel is for those seeking a quieter neighbourhood but within easy reach of Central Madrid. From here, you’re just a short drive from the inner city and within walking distance of Urgel metro station. The balcony is a nice spot for morning coffees, though keep in mind there’s no seating out here. Inside, the space is minimal and equipped for all your needs – the high-top table will appeal to remote workers, and the sofa bed will accommodate two extra guests. That said, this studio is on the smaller side, and we think it’s best suited for two.

A Retreat in Opañel

Living like a local and function meet in this studio flat in Madrid's Opañel district, with everything you need for an extended stay – ideal if you're a remote worker or someone who doesn't want to be on top of the touristy parts of town. With both beds in the same room, the home is best suited to families, and space is limited – though with a sofa bed and a Murphy bed, you can create extra space during the day. In the local area are several parks and local eateries, while the nearby Urgel Station connects you to the city centre in less than twenty minutes.

As you saunter past the ornate, rococo grandeur of the Palacio Real de Madrid, peering into kerbside cafés, wine bars, and bustling tapas restaurants en route, you’ll end up in Plaza Mayor, just seven minutes away.

The lively main square of Spain’s capital is exactly what you’d expect – historical 15th-century magnificence with a bronze statue of King Philip III in the middle. And of course, the exciting mix of drinking spots and shaded alfresco dining continues. You might be wondering why we’re so interested in this specific spot – well, this is your address.

This modern apartment trades in centuries of history for bright and shiny interiors (you’ve got plenty of history outside). Naturally, the living space features two huge glass doors leading you to a private balcony facing on to the celebrated square. A cushy white sofa and dining chairs around a glass table bring a futuristic feel, while pink orchids contrast with an organic edge.

But while you sip tempranillo and nibble olives with views over the king’s statue, your host has further plans make you feel regal. They can arrange for private city tours, dry cleaning, grocery deliveries, and even themed dinner nights – royal banquet anyone?

While these days it’s more about fabulous alfresco drinking and dining spots, as well as festivals and markets, it’s still pretty incredible to be able to stay in a flat on this iconic plaza. Let the doorman greet you and help take your luggage up to the third floor. Your host is here to help. They’re keen to offer their recommendations for restaurants, events, and the best local shops. If you’re staying a while, there’s even a complimentary welcome package to make your stay extra special. Of course the first thing you’ll notice inside is the fantastic view of the square – you’ve got more than one balconette at the French windows for that. Another gorgeous feature is the original wooden timber beams on the walls, a beautiful contrast to the modern look and feel of the decor. And if you do ever tire of being right in the city centre, take a twenty-minute walk to El Retiro Park. Find lush green spaces and a boating lake where you can while away the afternoon.

Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

Bright and contemporary, we think this open-plan studio is perfect for a solo traveller or a couple craving a stay in Madrid. With a stylish bathroom, walk-in closet and huge windows that let you wake up with a direct view of the city, the clever layout compartmentalises the space in a way that opens up the room and fills it with light. Blue Torito is a chilled-out home located in one of the liveliest parts of Madrid. Even though it sports a gentle colour palette, it uses patterns and textures to give it a bit more spunk. From woven carpets to the textured headboards, it's apparent that the hosts like playing with details. The design is somewhat lacking a coherent theme, but Blue Torito is still a solid, bright, and comfortable choice, with access to a resident-only pool and terrace.

You’ll find all manner of interesting objects, books and design elements in this two-bedroom flat – the secret library, hidden down a Japanese staircase is one highlight. Located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Malasaña, you won’t need to go far for things to do, from trendy restaurants to art galleries – and if you want to travel into the centre it’s a quick six-minute ride on public transport. In case you’re worried you won’t be able to get any peace, the flat is tucked away on a quiet side street.

Madrid is the vibrant, beating heart of Spain where wine bar chatter runs long into the night and the handsome streets are packed with galleries and museums. This apartment, in soothing neutral tones, is a haven away from the hubbub. Set around an internal courtyard, bedrooms are blissfully quiet. The master is a medley of candyfloss and dusky pink with a simple raw wood bed frame adding a boho touch. The bright living room with its big window can be set up as a social space for dining and hanging out on the sofa, or as a third bedroom with a Murphy bed folding down. You’re in the cultural heart of Madrid here, a ten-minute walk to the world-famous Prado museum and beautiful botanic gardens, and twelve minutes to Plaza Mayor.

While the decor is generic and not quite up to our usual standards, the location speaks for itself here. A balcony with views of the square is a nice touch and a generously sized kitchen will suit those looking to try their hand at homemade Spanish fare. And while two guests will need to share a sofa bed at full capacity and street noise is to be expected, we reckon you’ll be taking full advantage of this home’s unparalleled locale for sightseeing galore – sure to tucker you out for a good night’s sleep.

Based around an open living area, Peaks & Valleys is well proportioned and generally a sociable space. It’s not in pristine condition, as evidenced by the marks on the walls, but that’s an aesthetic consideration, and doesn’t make the home any less comfortable. The metro station in Lavapiés is close to the flat, and while the square outside is a little rough around the edges, there are several lively bars and restaurants.

This minimalist home's most prominent feature is the heavy use of drapes. You'll see them separating the master bedroom from the living room, the workspace, and the kitchen has its own stylish set too. True, there is more of a hotel vibe here, but at the same time, this is a sleek, well-designed and super comfortable home — not to mention the excellent traffic links to the rest of Spain via Atocha station.

This is a loud and proud home, filled with bold art and eclectic furniture. Large abstract paintings sit comfortably next to custom art prints and photography, revealing the hosts' love for shapes and stripes. Although it offers more of a mixture of modern and classical styles than a clear direction, this home has a mid-Century Hollywood feel to it. It's not the most typical Spanish home, but each of the rooms is designed around a coherent theme and colour scheme. Apart from the light and space – both abundant – this home has a lovely collection of lamps in all shapes and sizes.

Furnished with attention to detail and an appreciation for natural materials, this home knows how to make the best out of its assets. While the two balconies make sure that there's plenty of light in the living room and kitchen, wooden details in each room add to a coherent style that is most obviously expressed through the exposed wooden beams. We felt that the two bedrooms could benefit from an update, but the living room with the open-plan kitchen is one of the most stylish spaces we've seen in Madrid so far.

Just a two-minute stroll from Manuel Becerra metro stop, this apartment in Barrio de Salamanca is truly a breath of fresh air in the hot atmosphere of the Spanish capital. Surrounded by boulevards full of vibrant wine bars and restaurants, and eleven minutes on foot from cultural hotspots like the Nuevo Teatro Alcalá, you’ve got plenty of excitement on ground level – but a place to relax on the fourth floor.

This striking flat combines historic originals and modern fixtures in the most tasteful way. Bright windows and white walls exaggerate the sense of space, alongside high ceilings with rustic timber beams. We love the use of glass panels above the bedroom partitions, as well as the wooden cabinet with all sorts of books and trinkets within.

Waking up in white, zen-like bedrooms is a joy in this busy city. Make yourself an espresso and peer over the windowsill as the streets start to wake up. Take a leaf through your host’s detailed guide of the neighbourhood to pick out a spot for brunch, or find out about the best independent shopping spots for the day ahead.

A modern rustic home in the heart of Malasańa is a rare find. Behind the serious Nordic, highly polished furniture lies a love for traditional building materials and azulejo tiles. Some rooms in this home don't get as much sunlight as they should, but the yellow shutters in the master bedroom and living room are a unique way to highlight the unusually-placed windows.

This is a quirky apartment tucked behind Atocha station. The bold style decisions, including a coral photo print on the pillows, or a fish chandelier (you can see a theme forming), might not be to everyone's taste, but they certainly make this home unique. The Sea Change is comfortable, bright, and it has a balcony that's been converted into a study. Although slightly farther away from the museums, all the sights around Retiro are still accessible on foot and the area around Atocha hides tonnes of great restaurants and cafes.

With four fantastic balconies and a huge open-plan living room, this apartment is perfect for groups of friends who want to stay in central Madrid. Designed to be social, the striking industrial wooden beams set against contemporary Scandinavian style really make the turquoise living room pop. And the American-style island in the kitchen is ideal for quick breakfasts. Besides all the main attractions nearby, you'll also find tonnes of great restaurants, bars and shops dotted around bohemian Malasaña neighbourhood.

This home is far from a pristine condition, but we're sure you can spot the wear and tear from the photos. The exposed wooden beams and the older-looking elements help create a special kind of charm that's hard to find in Madrid these days. The Open Library might also have one of the finest kitchens we've seen, equipped with enough dishes space to cook for a small army. The fact that it's also located within walking distance from the Prado and Puerta del sol makes this home a great, relaxed stay.

This bright, stylish apartment is a superb base for six in Madrid. It’s centrally located, right next to the Parque del Retiro – the city centre’s largest park. You’ll be in the heart of the so-called tapa mile, the neighbourhood with the highest concentration of high-end cuisine in Madrid. When you’re not out seeing the sights or dining in style, you’ll be grateful to have such a marvellous home-from-home. One of the bedrooms is set up with a sofa bed and also has a desk, so is ideal for those working during their stay.

It's not every day that you get to stay somewhere quite like Villafranca. From the large seventeenth-century stone wall to the escape tunnel that doubles as a coffee table, the exposed wooden beams to the double height ceilings – history and character really are everywhere you look. We're not sure how practical the door that's been upcycled into a dining table will be for eating but, as it's located in central La Latina, there's no shortage of tapas restaurants, beautiful gardens, and food markets nearby.

Villafranca

This fabulous three-bedroom apartment is stylishly decorated throughout and brimming with character. The open-plan living room has lovely high ceilings, beautiful period windows, and a bright and airy feel. The bedrooms might not be the largest bedrooms we've ever seen, but they all have a lovely, calming feel and do the job just fine. We also love all the original paintings  throughout the home - this host has style!

Mere minutes away from Puerta del Sol and many of Madrid's most sought-after attractions, this sunny apartment is best suited to those who prefer to enjoy a city break on foot. 

Elegantly furnished, its simple designs have been carefully selected with attention to detail and high-quality materials. We particualrly loved the serene vibe felt throughout the home which makes retreating back here after fun-filled days and nights out in the city all the more appealing. 

Ideal for a small family or group of friends, one of the bedrooms boasts a street view window, while the other has its own little interior patio terrace – a peaceful spot to wake up to over your morning coffee.

Once you're refreshed and ready for the day – set off to explore the sights. With the likes of Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace just a five-minute walk away – there's no need to set foot on public transport when staying here. 



Sunny Face

This is a calm, dreamy home with lots of nooks to hide away and relax. Think gentle, coherent style and wonderful details, such as the rock wall in the living room or the breakfast bar in the open kitchen. The huge door-to-ceiling windows in the living room bring in the daylight without the noise, making you almost forget that you're located in the heart of Malasaña. We recommend the nearby Toma Cafe for a taste of the local atmosphere.

Coco Mimosa

Although the apartment isn't especially large, the owners have made excellent use of the space. The spotlessly clean and dynamic living room is dotted with stylish – but not overbearing – design pieces, and the mirror in the kitchen makes it feel dramatically more spacious. And, with an exceptionally fast wifi speed, a brand new air-conditioning unit, and five individual balconies (yes, really!) facing onto sunny Cadiz street, it's easy to see why guests keep coming back. 


Sputnik Dandelion

This two-bedroom apartment in the heart of Madrid's glamourous Salamanca neighbourhood is ideal for small groups of friends or families visiting Spain's cultural capital. With its comfortable wooden breakfast bar, unique decor and colourful paintings, the open-plan living room is filled with character. And that's before you've reached the two balconies, which make this pad tick all the boxes.

When you're not sipping cocktails on the larger terrace or lounging on the sofa, the city's top sights are on your doorstep. El Retiro, Madrid's oldest park is a ten-minute walk from this apartment, while the Plaza Mayor is just a couple of metro stops away. Even closer to home, you'll find some great restaurants in the area. Traditionally-prepared paella, tasty tapas and fragrant sangria are all just moments from your front door.
