Here, you'll have your own fully-equipped kitchen where you can cook up Spanish paellas, and a dining set where you can tuck in.

You'll have access to a wonderful shared outdoor pool when you stay here, as well as lovely gardens where you can rest on a sun lounger with a cocktail and a magazine. You'll also have private outdoor space here too, with a lovely terrace area where you can soak up those sea views, that features an alfresco dining set for sipping on Cava at sunset.

There’s also a garage space here, perfect if you want to hire a car and explore Fuengirola nearby.

The apartment is bright and modern with doors leading out to a lovely balcony offering beautiful views of Fuengirola and the surrounding Mijas mountains. It's also worth noting that while the apartment can sleep up to five, three people will be sleeping on a bunk bed in the second bedroom which is only suitable for younger children.

After dinner, keep the conversation flowing with a bottle of local wine as twilight falls – what better way to toast your getaway?

If you're keen to explore, Marbella and Málaga are less than an hour away by car – both are great options for sightseeing and offer a bevvy of restaurants, boutique shops and bars to discover. Of course, you can't visit the Costa del Sol without a trip to the beach. The nearest is in Fuengirola, so slather on your suncream, grab your beach towel and get ready to feel the soft, white sand between your toes.

The Jade Butterfly

Located on a narrow street in the historic town of Alhaurín el Grande, close to the green slopes of Sierra de Mijas, you'll find this spectacular villa. 

Even the entrance to this home is awe-inspiring. Adorned with blue and white tiles, hand-painted by the lost artisans of Seville, this hallway gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "if walls could talk." You'll also find an original stone motif and lattice, dating all the way back to 1882. This home seamlessly blends historic features with modern-day living to create a space that's not only inviting but has an incredible sense of whimsy.

The blue and white theme is present throughout the home, adding pretty pops of colour that contrast beautifully with the terracotta brickwork and patio. Speaking of the patio, this area is most definitely the beating heart of this home, boasting multiple levels containing shady nooks to relax in, a dining table for alfresco feasts and a swimming pool complete with a trickling water feature. 

Spend your days sipping coffee on the outdoor sofa, cooling off in the pool or tucking into brunch in the sunshine. When you fancy a change of scene, head into town to sample an array of international cuisines, pick up a few treats at the local bakery or have a wander around the 18th-century churches and chapels. 

When you return home, head straight to the hammam for some much-deserved R&R. Allow the steam to cleanse your skin while the jacuzzi jets wash over any tired muscles. Evenings are best spent in the basement, where you'll find a pool table and bar. Have a friendly tournament or put your mixology skills to the test, before retiring to the home cinema to watch a movie on the big screen. Don't forget to make yourself a batch of popcorn to get the full experience.

Given everything this home has to offer, it’s hardly surprising that it ended up in the pages of Marie Claire back in 2019. You’ve got all the amenities you could wish for here, from a poolside bar to an outdoor Jacuzzi – not to mention, an open-plan living area complete with cosy fireplace for keeping warm when temperatures start to drop. Kick back and relax in the orange-hued interior or head outside for a spot of alfresco dining by the pool. Glass of sangria, anyone? 

We could easily spend all day here but if you fancy a change of pace, there’s plenty to keep you occupied nearby. Practise your swing at Lauro Golf Resort, stretch your legs with a ramble along one of the Sierra de Mijas hiking trails, or jump in the car and head into Malaga for a spot of sightseeing. 

Casa Carmesí

Just a short walk from Carvajal Beach, this apartment opens its doors to a relaxing coastal getaway. Guests can enjoy impressive sea views from the terrace, family-friendly rooms and access to a communal swimming pool. It’s also a great option for those with reduced mobility with step-free access and private parking. It’s possible you may hear some noise from the neighbours while you are here, but you will find local amenities are within easy reach, plus it’s just a short drive to Málaga and Fuengirola.
