In the foothills of Sierra de las Nieves, you’ll find the historic town of Alozaina where, if you were to walk along the winding streets, much of its storied past is quite plain to see in Latin-inspired churches and the many monuments. Make your way around, stopping off at cafes or restaurants when you’re not exploring one of the many hiking trails of Málaga. 

Return home after a morning out, preferably with little roscos de vino or cinnamon and sugar covered pestiños and sit down for a cup of coffee together at the dining table. Set right in the Sierra de las Nieves nature reserve, this Andalusian villa has been in the same family for five generations and recently received the European Charter of Quality Certificate. Passed down from heir to heir, this home has incorporated more modern touches over the years but the bones of it remain the same, adding a homely touch. Everything from the exposed-beam ceilings to the shuttered windows, ornate headboards of the beds, brick fireplace, and rustic kitchen pays homage to the villa’s beginnings, and we bet you can see yourself finding total and utter peace between the four walls here. 

If not, you can always venture outdoors. Walk towards the gadens where you’ll find many types of fruit trees, as well as vineyards and olive groves. Bask in the aromas as you sit down with a book and read under the Mediterranean sun. When you’ve been properly baked, opt for a quick dip in the pool to refresh before organising the barbecue lunch. Enjoy it alfresco and stay out, capturing photographs of the beautiful decorative outdoor stove and the creeping vines, as you enjoy drinks under the pergola. 

Marbella is a fairly short drive away, and so are four golf courses – good news for any golfing enthusiasts in your party. Spend sun-drenched days in the golden sand of the closest beach or get a new appreciation for the native fauna by exploring the many hiking trails. 

Amongst the Fruit Trees

With panoramic views of the Sierra de las Nieves, this home in Monda pays homage to the mountains and woodland that forms part of this nature reserve by aiming its gaze directly at it. Sit anywhere outside – albeit the dining table for an alfresco breakfast or when one of the sunloungers – and you’ll be able to trace the rolling hills on the horizon, spotting the pops of green the native foliage provides.

Of course, if you’d like to get up close and personal with it, you can explore the hiking areas of the surroundings when you’re not spending sun-drenched days at one of the sandy beaches along the coast. 

Understandably you’re going to want to linger outdoors and that can easily be done by dining out on the terrace, grilling meals on the barbecue, or by being in and around the crystal-clear swimming pool, but with this home, you don’t have to sever the connection once you’re inside. With doors opening to  Juliette balconies in most rooms, you can throw them wide open as you settle down for an afternoon nap. 

Treat yourself to some of the local sweets and enjoy it with a cup of freshly-brewed coffee as you sit down together at the rustic dining table, or light the wood-burning stove in the lounge and socialise over wine as the fire crackles in the background.

We recommend you start your day by making an iced coffee in your fully equipped kitchen and sipping it poolside while you relax on a lounger. Go back to your home to cook up a delicious Spanish breakfast of tortilla and tostadas, and tuck in around your trendy dining set. Have a quick dip in one of the two pools as the sun rises in the sky. Head over to the lake and enjoy gliding along on a boat as you take in the views of the lush greenery around you. As the evening begins, take a bottle of Cava over to the pagoda dining area to enjoy drinks at sunset, and play a few games of foosball while you’re there.

A Spanish Fairytale

Looking out over mountains and fields, the background of this home is idyllic – perfect for those looking for some seclusion. The interior, while a bit dated, includes everything you need for extended stays. The location is fairly rural, so a car is essential – the nearest restaurant and shops are 3 km away. And yet the kids shouldn't get bored, with the pool and play area sure to keep them occupied. If you fancy heading to the coast, you're 34 km from the centre of Malaga.

Painted a rather cheerful shade of pink, this villa is nestled away in the hills above the Andalusian coastline and fits right in with the air of luxury in the area.

As might be expected from such a sunny spot on the map, many of the best amenities can be found in the open air. The large kidney-shaped swimming pool is chief among them, but we're also fond of the Jacuzzi just next door and a long dining table on the verandah where you can enjoy food fresh off the barbecue.

The living quarters are lavishly appointed, with a contemporary kitchen replete with sleek surfaces and an equally glossy selection of bathrooms with a fair few tubs perfect for a long soak. We also like the amount of natural light that comes in through the floor-to-ceiling windows and there are even a couple of balconies from which to gaze out over the surrounding mountains.

While you're more than welcome to stay at the address and enjoy the tranquillity, it doesn't take too long to reach local attractions. Cortijo Blanco Beach is the nearest stretch of sand and sea at 8km away, passing the town of San Pedro de Alcantara along the way. Marbella is only a 20km drive, too.
