This home ticks every box when it comes to fuss-free holiday homes. It’s small but perfectly formed, with a cosy living room that’s the heart of the home. Children will love sleeping on the mezzanine level, where they can have their own space while still being close to the grown-ups. 

The outside space here is sure to win over everyone, though. You’ll have access to the shared swimming pool, which is a dream to dive into on hot, sunny days. You can sunbathe alongside the pool, dipping a toe in every now and then, or choose to soak up the sun on one of two terraces. There’s shade aplenty if you’d rather curl up with a book and a lemonade, too. 

Plage de Matteille is less than a kilometre away, where you can splash in the shallows and build sandcastles. With your own Jacuzzi on the terrace and a private pool heated between April and October, it's well-equipped for alfresco living. We highly recommend hiring a car here to make the most of this gorgeous location, whether it's a day trip to Sommières or the bustling Montpellier.

This winemaker's abode from the early 20th century preserves many of its original features. Crafted in local stone, the ground floor bears marks of the century old wine tanks. Other quirky details include bar-stools, lamps and wardrobes salvaged from French cruise ships and a well-fitted vintage gaming den. A typical day here involves sipping wines at the local vineyards followed by visits to quaint boutiques, morning markets and galleries of Pézenas. If you can ever get enough of the festivities and street music of the village, there's a whole different world to explore. While the nearby beaches of Cap d’Agade and Marseillan Plage have gorgeous coastlines lined with delicious sea-food haunts, the rivers are a hot-bed for swimming, fishing, biking and water-sports. We don't debate that it can take up all your summer to simply scratch the surface of Languedoc. However, it would be a missed opportunity to not include a day trip to the walled city of Carcassone while you're here.

Once a winemaker's mansion which dates back to the mid-19th century, blue-shuttered The property sleeps up to 12 guests across its six bedrooms. Having undergone a recent renovation, the owners have taken great care to retain the house's historic charm whilst adding modern amenities creating a warm and welcoming holiday home. Whether travelling as an extended family or with a group of friends, The property's space is ideal for sociable living with a charming and well-equipped kitchen and dining area opening out to the terrace for al-fresco dining and relaxation overlooking the pool. That said, there is always somewhere to escape to whether you seek a little solitude in the music room, play table tennis in the former wine store or watch TV in one of the two living rooms. The enclosed garden features your very own swimming pool with a plage-style entrance ideal for youngsters to splash around in. Enjoy al-fresco feasts by the barbecue, savouring some of the delicious produce found at local markets (including nearby Pézenas' famous Saturday morning market which dates back to the 14th century). Located in a traditional village dating back to medieval times, you are a few steps away from the ruins of a 12th century castle with magnificent views of the Hérault valley whilst the village is also home to a bakery, general store and bar-restaurant within 300m. Just a 10-minute drive away is Pézenas, not only famous for its weekly market but also its little antique stores, inviting cafes and restaurants as well as Molière's Théâtre de Pézenas. On Friday evenings in the height of the summer the town comes alive with live music, street food and lots of good local wine during 'Les Estivales'.Languedoc's fine coastline is easily reached with Marseillan Plage and the old town of Sète within half an hour by car whilst other highlights of this region include wine villages, vineyards, garrigue perfect for hiking as well as the bustling town of Béziers. Venture a little further afield to visit the picture-perfect pilgrimage stop, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, or spend the day exploring the magnificent citadel of Carcassonne, both classified as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
