We think it's a great choice for families and friend groups – it's bursting with amenities, including all-terrain bikes, a pétanque court, a heated infinity pool, and a gym and sauna. The dedicated office has a double sofa bed for two guests, and there are two EV chargers here for added convenience. We do recommend hiring a car here to make the most of your stay, whether it's exploring Montpellier or the village of Montferrier-sur-Lez, or spending a day at the beach.

With some of the historic charm still intact, the chateau has some of the rustic features you'd identify in an older home, and though that style might not suit everyone, you can't deny there's character, comfort and space in spades. Given the sloped ceiling, the bedroom with the four single beds would be best suited to kids, whilst another double room with an adjacent kid's bed is perfect for little ones not brave enough to venture out on their own yet. The garden is picture-perfect for alfresco dining, especially after sourcing produce at the weekly market in Carmaux. 

The Chateau in the Meadow

This home, housed in a charming 18th-century "hôtel particulier", allows you to stay just a two-minute walk from the famous Place de la Comédie, Montpellier's central square. It's also a leisurely one-minute stroll to Les Halles Castellane market (open every day) – discover local French delicacies and take them back to this stylish apartment.

We love the ornate staircase that leads to this home's door. Once inside the apartment, unwrap your goodies, pour a glass of wine and whip up a tasty cassoulet in the kitchen. After your feast, relax on the comfy sofa in the living room with its geometric wallpaper, Acapulco-style chair, plants and modern spider chandelier and take in the views over Montpellier's rooftops. This winemaker's abode from the early 20th century preserves many of its original features. Crafted in local stone, the ground floor bears marks of the century old wine tanks. Other quirky details include bar-stools, lamps and wardrobes salvaged from French cruise ships and a well-fitted vintage gaming den. A typical day here involves sipping wines at the local vineyards followed by visits to quaint boutiques, morning markets and galleries of Pézenas. If you can ever get enough of the festivities and street music of the village, there's a whole different world to explore. While the nearby beaches of Cap d’Agade and Marseillan Plage have gorgeous coastlines lined with delicious sea-food haunts, the rivers are a hot-bed for swimming, fishing, biking and water-sports. We don't debate that it can take up all your summer to simply scratch the surface of Languedoc. However, it would be a missed opportunity to not include a day trip to the walled city of Carcassone while you're here.
