Two of the things that the Kent town of Deal is most famous for is its castle and stretch of pebbly coastline. As it happens, both of these things are visible through the big bay window in the lounge of this apartment. Back inside, the decor is simple, but every aspect has been executed so well. Wooden floorboards and white walls provide a classy backdrop against which colourful furnishings and photographic artwork pop off. The kitchen is pretty large considering the address is only for two, so you'll be able to flex your culinary muscles with no trouble. The presence of a bathtub is also sure to be appreciated after a long day frolicking about on the beach, which sits at the end of the street. The host is evidently a fan of up-cycling – look out for creative touches such as repurposed doors, stain-glass windows and rustic radiators. We especially love the wood-panelled walls and flooring that shape the space as a whole, while the comfortable furnishings, neutral tones and wood-burning stove keep things cosy. 

Here, as much attention has been paid to comfort as it has to style – drift off to sleep beneath Egyptian cotton bed linen or relax on leather sofas in the sitting room. But, don’t spend too much time inside as this home is close to an expansive sandy beach. Enjoy exclusive use of a private “No Through” sandy road, with access only to residents, and walk to the sand dunes in two minutes. End the day with early-evening sundowners on the front porch, sharing anecdotes and listening to the waves lapping in and out of the shore, before heading into the local village for a spot of traditional pub grub, five minutes away on foot.

Bring your bikes and explore this part of the world at your own pace.

Inside, this home is modern and comfortable, with plenty of room for a family. A sociable, open-plan living room is fitted with a contemporary kitchen and you can choose to eat indoors or outside on the covered part of the terrace. But the real star of the show is the home's spacious deck overlooking the park's lake. Complete with comfy outdoor sofas and an outdoor shower to rinse the sand off those feet, it's the perfect spot for evening drinks.

This chateau in Normandy is bursting with old-world charm. Built by the original owner in the 19th century as a wedding present for his wife, it has been lovingly restored in recent years. While historic features like the elegant façade, grand rooms and antique French floor tiles have been preserved, the basement has been converted into a haven for fun and relaxation. The curved brick rooms are now home to a cinema room, a pool table, and a fitness suite. Meanwhile upstairs retains its 19th-century splendour through antique furniture, original fireplaces, and oak panelled walls. 

Set within an 18-hectare estate, there are beautiful spots to while away the days. Relax on the lawn with a book or sip calvados on the charming château terrace. On sunny days, whip up lunch on the barbecue while the children have fun in the play area. There are over 300 apple and pear trees in the fruit orchard, and beautiful walking trails through the estate’s woodland, with sprawling views of Normandy countryside, which you can explore on foot or on the bikes at the house. 

The area is surrounded by picturesque villages and scenery. The historic town of Gournay-en-Bray is a five-minute drive away, where you can pick up local produce at the twice-weekly market for a picnic. The Forêt de Lyons can be reached in twenty minutes by car, where you can practise a range of outdoor adventures, or simply walk through the winding woodland trails.

Whitstable's bustling High Street is lined with galleries, independent boutiques, one-of-a-kind pubs, beautiful restaurants, and more. It's the kind of place you could spend days exploring.

Located in the picturesque village of Ash, this farmhouse is a gorgeous escape, best suited for a large family or a group of friends who love the Kent countryside. The architecture hasn't changed much since the house was built well over a century ago, and you can still see a variety of period features, even though the home has recently undergone a careful refurbishment. This is most obvious in the homey kitchen with its hanging pots and pans, supported by a beautiful vaulted ceiling, as well as the antique fireplace in the living room. Thanks to the size of the garden, everyone can find their little spot and relax alone, or get together for an alfresco meal freshly cooked on the barbecue. But our favourite space has to be the library, where you can browse the host's wide collection of titles and pretend you're the Lord or Lady of the manor. There's a local pub just a few minutes away if you're in need of refreshment, along with a village shop. Plus, with the medieval town of Sandwich just a ten-minute drive away, along with a nearby golf course and wildlife park, there's plenty to entertain the whole family.

Style meets comfort in this wonderfully located apartment in Margate. Designed in a chic, boutique-style manner, the whole space feels brilliantly modern while retaining a sense of vintage charm that so aptly reflects Margate’s seaside fame. We love the bright living room with its large windows that provide the most spectacular sunset views across the Winter Gardens and out towards the sea, best enjoyed on the sofa with a glass of wine or through the handy telescope provided. Full of fun decorative details that subtly nod to the coast, this space is made for relaxation and easy-going socialising. Our other favourite spot for sea-sighting is in the beautiful master bedroom where an armchair invites you to curl up on it with a good book and enjoy the rolling of the waves from yet another angle. Factor in the sunny kitchen and the sparkling blue and white bathroom and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful coastal break. Outside of your home, you’re just a six-minute walk from the Turner Contemporary art gallery, an eight-minute stroll from the Main Sands beach, while the Dreamland Margate amusement park is fifteen minutes on foot from your door.

Taking up the two floors of a Victorian townhouse, this home has a lovely view of Deal Castle out through the window. Inside, there's plenty to hold your attention, too. The white walls and wooden floorboards work very well with the ample amounts of natural light that come in through the windows on either side of the long, open living space. There's a charming collection of nautical-themed pieces of artwork and trinkets dotted about the space, as well as a pair of bathtubs that are sure to tempt you upon coming back through the front door after a long day exploring this quaint seaside town. The pier is eight minutes' walk along the pebbly beach and you'll spot some of the wide array of restaurants and pubs that Deal has to offer along the way.

Positioned directly on Dungeness's public beach, this former foghorn testing station has been fully renovated into a unique getaway for two. The nearby lighthouse's foghorn still works, although we much prefer the idea of waking up to the sound of the waves and seagulls. The sea is literally on your doorstep, and huge glass doors and a small terrace maximise the idyllic views. It's more of a studio than a one-bed, but we like the single-level layout. Although phone signal is patchy here and there's no proper TV, there is wi-fi for remote working and streaming. That said, the Bose speaker system, wood burner and teak bathtub are all you need to truly unwind.

Between the cities of Laon and Soissons, in the quiet village of Lizy, this country home invites you to experience the charming woodlands and striking chateaus of the French countryside. 

Spend your days in the garden enjoying the fruits of the orchard and castle views – the outdoor sofa is the perfect place to relax and enjoy your surroundings. The snug living room is set around a wood-burner and there’s an ample vinyl collection if you want to set the mood with the record player. There are board games a-plenty and books for all ages scattered across the bookshelves. The breakfasting kitchen is big and bright, with glass doors that fold back to reveal the cute back garden where a picnic bench is brightened by stringed lights at night. Our favourite thing about this place is the claw-footed tub, perfect for a bath after a day on the beach.

The heated swimming pool and tennis court mean there’s lots to keep little ones entertained, too.
