This former fisherman's cottage has been given a new lease of life as a charming holiday home. Best suited to a couple and up to three kids, it's the perfect place to begin your adventures in the wonderful town of Whitstable. 

Step inside, and you'll feel instantly at home thanks to the cosy furnishings and warm colour scheme. There are quirky details dotted throughout the house – look out for the sweet octopus sketch, patterned tiles, and carefully curated antique pieces. On chilly evenings, you can light up the wood-burner and enjoy a home-cooked dinner of local seafood. Or, when the sun shines, head out to the courtyard and fire up the barbeque for a delicious grilled feast. 

From here, Whitstable Beach is just a five-minute stroll away, where you can paddle in the water and soak up the Kentish sunshine. There are plenty of quaint pubs and tasty restaurants to try – make sure you don't leave without tasting the town's delicacy, fresh oysters. And, if you fancy doing something a bit different, head to the Wildart Trail, a woodland walk adorned with sculptures – it's a fourteen-minute drive away.

Whitstable Oysters

This little gem makes for a stylish coastal escape in the town of Hythe - an Old English word meaning 'haven'. You'll be a walk from Hythe Beach, with golf, pubs, and plenty of food options. The home is fresh, bright, and modern. Curl up on plush sofas and chairs in front of the log burner with a film or board game. The kitchen is super sleek and the dining space is the best spot to gather and relax while preparing food or drinks. Lofty glass doors that lead out to the garden, where one can catch the early sun with a morning coffee. For unwinding indoors, the freestanding bathtub is an elegant touch. However you spend your days, this home will be your haven.

Hydrangea Haven

Seaside life is on your doorstep at this quintessential fishermen's cottage set just seconds from Walmer’s postcard-worthy seafront. There are all the obligatory cottage features here – starting with that log burner and a pretty walled garden outside. Along with refreshing flashes of modernity too. You didn’t expect mid-century antiques and a record player with vinyl in a sleepy hideaway in Kent, did you? Seek out Walmer Castle just along the seafront (the gardens are as impressive as the Tudor fortress). Then carry along the coastal promenade into Deal – its iconic pier and bustling high street with boutique shops and artisan delis is an afternoon well spent.

Tide & Time

Right on the edge of Orlestone Forest and a twenty-minute drive from the coast, this quaint bolthole has been plucked from the lid of a chocolate box. Your host, Caroline, has created a cosy, clever and modern delight of a home with a mix of rustic and mid-century furnishings. Two comfy armchairs are positioned in front of the sliding doors, so you can keep one eye on the television and the other on the wildlife busying itself in the immaculate garden. Tuck into breakfast in your private courtyard before taking a stroll past the pond and golden barley fields to the paddock, where Caroline’s Soay sheep are kept. Set out on a yomp along country lanes, stopping at gastro pubs along the way. And when it’s time to get some rest, we guarantee you’ll be out like a light as soon as your head hits the pillow of your cloud-soft bed.

Golden Barley

This home opens its doors to a refreshing retreat in the Kentish countryside. Set within a peaceful garden, there’s an abundance of space to relax, socialise and savour quality time together both inside and out. Each of the rooms boasts a unique character and there are plenty of quirky touches throughout. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you and private parking is available. Plus, you'll find lots to explore in the surroundings with easy access to nearby Sandwich. It’s also just a short drive to Wingham Wildlife Park and the beaches along the coast. 


English Bliss

Rejuvenate with panoramic sea views every day at this beachfront hideout perched along one of Sandgate’s most sought-after private roads. Boasting direct access to a quiet and secluded stretch of beach, and yet just a 4-minute drive (or thirty-three minutes on foot) from the bustling seaside town of Folkestone, it’s hard to imagine a better location. Wake up with invigorating strolls along the nearby coastal paths. Rustle up a picnic for the beach, or head into Sandgate for a dose of seaside nostalgia with fish and chips and lashings of ice cream. When it’s time for a spot of shopping and culture, mosey along to the cobbled streets of Folkstone, where you’ll find bustling restaurants, gastropubs, and the thriving artist quarter. Back at home, maritime curiosities bring coastal charm, while a dramatic mural painted by Kent artist Oliver Trowell brings drama and a dash of colour to the space. After busy days exploring the Kent coast, soak weary legs in the Jacuzzi bathtub. Then pad out onto the south-easterly facing terrace, fire up the barbecue and nestle down in the charming pergola. It’s your front-row seat to watch the glowing setting sun.

Blue Horizon

It’s rare that a house in Whitstable has a garden this big, but that’s the bonus of being on the outskirts of town. True to any seaside sanctuary, there are deck chairs in the garden to soak up the sun and outdoor dining set up on rattan furniture. A big lawn allows kids to run free. 

Inside, the social space is huge. A mezzanine balcony and double-height ceiling in the open-plan living area created a sense of space and we love the boho and scandi-chic seating for all the family. A breakfast bar and kitchen island of raw wood mean there’s oodles of prep space and dining is at a rustic wooden table with bench-style seating. Bedrooms are massive, and kids will love the higglety pigglety layout of single beds secreted away beneath eaves and on mezzanine levels.

You’re on the outskirts of Whitstable, a twenty-minute walk (or five-minute drive) from the seafront where beach huts line the sand and fishing boats bob in the harbour. Here you’ll find plenty to see and do with fish and chip restaurants and ice cream shops galore. Outdoorsy types should hit the Crab and Winkle Cycle Way, right from the home’s doorstep.

Shells In The Garden

A quintessentially English countryside escape, you may have seen this characterful 16th-century manor feature in the film Mr Holmes and more notably in season three of The Crown. In honour of such a humble appearance – we've named this home after the episode in which it features, titled "Cri de Coeur". Surrounded by 720-acres of National Trust farmland, the property boasts a location amidst breathtaking natural beauty that stretches as far as the eye can see. There's even a 30-acre family-run vineyard owned that guests have the opportunity to discover on a wine tour and tasting organised by the hosts. Make the most of the on-site wine tasting lounge – it's the perfect place to socialise after a day out in the country air. 

As well as communal access to the winery, you'll have private access to an entire wing of the home as well as a private piece of the garden – separate from any other guests. Stone paths pave the way inside to the cosy main living space with a traditional aesthetic throughout. While there isn't a kitchen as such in the wing, the living area includes a fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle and some dining essentials so that you can enjoy simple meals around the table. After country walks through the sheep fields or to Winchelsea Beach (fifty minutes away on foot) – make returning and snuggling up in front of the log burner fire a cosy ritual that you'll crave long after your stay. From the bedroom windows, take in the best views in the house, as the vistas sweep across the rolling hills and out to sea. With the town of Rye positioned just 4 miles away, this place is not as remote as it may seem – as you'll have convenient access to an array of charming shops, pubs and restaurants just a ten-minute drive away. 

Cri de Coeur

With so much to discover about the rich history and nature of Kent, it would make sense to base yourself in a somewhat historic setting. A twelve-minute walk from Martin Mill train station, in a tiny village of the same name, this home is not only ideal for history buffs, but anyone who is a fan of a tipple. Built in 1610, this traditional boozer hosts locals every evening, but can also play host to four guests in its private apartment. Above this working pub, pick up a pint of English ale to sample before making your way around this striking abode. You’ll find rich leather sofas, vintage upholstered armchairs, a gramophone, Persian rugs, and cabinets and shelves full of curios. A truly unique stay, this home really transports you back hundreds of years, steeped in British tradition and exactly the eclectic vibe you’d hope for. Finish your pint in the back garden, with its picnic benches and lush lawns, where you'll probably find yourself chatting to one of the regulars. If you fancy an escape from pub life, drive ten minutes to Dover – visit its medieval castle, or admire its iconic White Cliffs.

English Barleywine

Tucked away in the historic heart of Rye, this stylish apartment makes a sleek base for coastal escapes. Perched on the second floor, it’s a light-filled retreat with a warm, welcoming vibe. The open-plan living space invites slow mornings and evenings with a glass of wine, while the compact kitchen is well-equipped. Seaglass Loft

This luxurious, renovated Victorian red brick bard is nestled in the English countryside of Romney Marsh Ridge, on the edge of the rural hamlet of Court-at-Street and next door to family-favourite Port Lympne Safari Park. With a large garden and beautiful panoramic views of the North Downs. there is something for the whole family to enjoy during your stay. With streaming services, table football, board games and a host of books to choose from, no one will be complaining about boredom if you're stuck inside on a rainy day. Cosy up by the log burner or draw yourself a steaming bath in the clawfoot tub, and sink into the water as you feel your muscles relaxing. Stepping outside you'll be spoiled for choice in how to spend your day, whether you want to travel out further afoot or stay on the property. Throw a barbecue and dine alfresco with beautiful country views, and gather round the firepit at dusk while you roast marshmallows and exchange stories around the flames. If you're looking for something a little more active for the family, your host owns a tennis court on the property that can be used with prior permission.
