If you passed this nondescript townhouse on one of Baune's historic side streets, you wouldn't guess there's a hidden stone-walled wine cellar on its lower level. But that's exactly what you can expect from this unique home in the Burgundy wine region, formerly featured in The Times.

Built in the 17th century, the spacious house retains charming original details – from the exposed wooden beams to the curved sash windows. But your host has updated it with striking sculptures and graphic wall art, as well as comfortable furniture so you can kick back and relax after a day of exploring. 

You can't leave this home without arranging a tasting in the romantic candle-lit cellar, where an expert will introduce you to the area's finest wines. We're labelling this spot as the dream honeymoon location. Once you've had a taste of the flavourful wine, you'll likely want to see where it comes from. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Burgundy region from this fabulous country house surrounded by serene landscapes and open countryside. From the moment you arrive, prepare to be awe-struck by the home's stunning 16th-century facade featuring blue window shutters and stone infrastructure. 

The inside is just as beautiful as exposed wooden beams, and original stone floors pave the way to a cosy stay. But, while the space undoubtedly preserves its original charm, modern furnishings offer style and practicality. We particularly love the pink and yellow colour scheme of the kitchen, with bold checkerboard flooring and vibrant walls – this room, in particular, brags bags of charm. 

Open the French windows onto the gorgeous grassy garden, where you'll also find a sunny terrace - perfect for lazy afternoons with a glass of local wine in hand. Wander around the wooded grounds, reconnecting with nature as you go. The local neighbourhood is an equally dreamy setting where you'll find only three local people living there all year round. 

It doesn't get much more rural than that. Nearby, you'll find the towns of Sennecey le Grand, 5 kilometres to the north, and Tournus, 7 kilometres to the south. In each of these local towns, there are shops and restaurants to pick all you need. Don't miss the rolling local vineyards where the winegrowers welcome you to tour the vines and sample the wines.

This enormous chateau in the Burgundy countryside has quite a fascinating backstory. It was built in 1900 and gifted to a French actress by her lover before it was sold to the Red Cross and used as a war hospital. Today, it's the spot for a rather sumptuous getaway.

The interior is full of grand features, from the long dining table in the orangery and high-ceilinged living room to the library and impressive hallway. You might also notice some more recent additions, such as the home cinema set-up and spa-worthy bathrooms.

Outside, too, has some rather inviting features, chief among them the heated swimming pool surrounded by loungers. When you're finished taking a dip, there's plenty more to discover in the four acres of grounds, including a fishing pond and a shared tennis and basketball court.

However you choose to fill your days, the chateau's rural location will ensure you can do it in the utmost tranquillity. There are lots of walking routes that start nearby and Morvan National Park lies under half an hour's drive away. The town of Epinac only takes ten minutes in the car to reach and offers a restaurant, bakery, grocery and butchers.

Located in the heart of Côte d’Or, this beautiful home was built in the 1900s and restored to make a lovely holiday getaway. Kids will love the vast garden, where you'll find outdoor seating for enjoying an alfresco meal or an aperitif. The kitchen is fully equipped for large meals and there's plenty of space for groups. Nearby vineyards can be visited by bike or on foot, but we recommend having a car here for day trips – Dijon and the Parc Naturel Regional du Morvan are easily accessible by car.

This renovated barn in the Burgundy countryside is a twenty-minute drive from the charming town of Beaune. The hosts, Laura and Peter, have kitted the place out with all the creature comforts you’ll need for an unforgettable break. There’s a sauna available in the autumn and winter, a garden for refreshments alfresco and a bar for sampling the region’s best wines. At capacity, two guests will sleep on a sofa bed, which may not be ideal if you’re planning an extended stay.

The wine capital of Burgundy, Beaune, is just a fifteen-minute drive away. 

The traditional house stands across from the village square – you can watch the comings and goings of the locals from your terrace. Each morning, you need only take a few steps to buy fresh bread and pastries from the boulangerie, which you can devour on the terrace – we love dining alfresco on holiday. In the evening, you might cook on the barbecue, or for special occasions make a reservation at the Michelin-starred restaurant just down the road. 

The cottage blends historic charm with stylish decor. You can look forward to seeing the original parquet flooring, exposed stone walls and wooden beams, alongside some modern touches that make your stay all the more comfortable. After a day spent cycling around nearby vineyards, it feels glorious to sink into the master suite’s deep bathtub – pour yourself a glass of wine to take your relaxation to the next level.

The grounds are equally as lavish, with 15 acres of private deer field parkland, a swimming pool and cottages dotted around the grounds. Nearby Beaune isn't short of activities to choose from, with helicopter rides, golf and hot air ballooning, to name but a few, plus a rich cultural and historical heritage to discover and enjoy.

Located in the middle of the Burgundy countryside, there's been a building on this site for around two centuries, something you might be able to tell from the wooden beams, flagstone flooring and thick stone walls. However, it's no longer a humble barn, but a luxurious French getaway.

In the intervening two hundred years, plenty has been added to aid in this transformation. Outside, the most notable change has been the building of a heated swimming pool in the middle of the lush grounds and even more recently — in 2021, in fact — a walled garden has been constructed holding over twenty types of herbs and soft fruits. If you time your visit just right, you might be able to pick cherries and grapes straight off the branch.

When the weather's being kind, there's everything from a boules court and swing to a barbecue on the terrace with outdoor speakers to enjoy. If, however, the clouds are ominously grey, you can keep yourselves occupied on the billiards table or home cinema setup instead.

The nearest village is only twenty-five minutes away on foot and offers all the charming bakeries, charcuteries and markets you could want. As well as that, the unspoilt Morvan Regional Nature Park that surrounds the address means the local area is perfect for long walks or cycle rides. If that sounds too tame, the Magny Cours circuit — a French Grand Prix venue — is only forty minutes' drive away.

The accommodation is over three floors, and all of the rooms capitalise on the wonderful vistas. If you want to do some winter sports, the ski resorts of La Sambuy and Semnoz are just under thirty minutes away. In summer, there's a lakeside beach just 2 kilometres from this home, and the Voie Verte cycle and footpath passes the door.

Built in 1850, this refurbished chalet offers a luxurious holiday in the French Alps for families and friends alike. The amenities here are incredible – there are two terraces, a Jacuzzi, a sauna (both with wonderful views), and an indoor pool. There’s also a cinema room and a games room with a jukebox and pool table. We love the living room with its feature fireplace too. Oh, and the kids will love the bedroom on the attic floor – this dormitory-style room has eight built-in bunks and a TV corner. We wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t want to leave this place, but if you're looking to ski, this home is located in a quiet village, just a short drive from the slopes.
