After a morning spent wandering around the atmospheric cafe-lined streets of Le Mourillon and picking out local produce at its daily food markets, why not check out the 16th-century Fort Saint-Louis, followed by an afternoon topping up your vitamin D down at the beach? 

Alternatively, make your way a couple of kilometres west to the maze-like streets of Toulon's old town, lined with a contrasting mix of designer shops and charmingly dilapidated medieval houses. For a change of scene, we'd recommend heading north to Mont Faron, which offers a whole new perspective on Toulon from its peak, 500m above the city.

Locally, nearby Toulon is well worth a visit, and when the sea calls your name, jump in the car for a ten-minute drive to Galle Pine beach.

Bandol is one of the most visited towns that lie along the Côte d'Azur, it's a fabulous spot where you can find some truly wonderful homes – case in point, this address is only a couple of streets over from the port. 

It feels remiss to start anywhere other than the wonderful palm-lined outdoor space, which, while modest in size, has both loungers for soaking up some rays and a Jacuzzi big enough to squeeze in seven. There's a contemporary sheen to the interior, from the Scandi-inspired furnishings and whitewashed walls to the modern kitchen dominated by clean lines and smooth surfaces. The bathrooms look as if they've been plucked out of a spa and we also love the hanging chair in the bedroom that is just the spot to get lost in a good book.

When it comes to filling up your itinerary, you're simply spoilt for choice. The golden sands of Plage du Grand Vala are a kilometre or so down the coastline and there's a great choice of restaurants around the port to head to come evening time. Once you've exhausted Bandol – which may take longer than you anticipated – Marseille is less than an hour away by car.

This modern apartment is perfect for a couple or a small family looking for a seaside getaway in the south of France. It’s contemporary and simple in style, a comfortable base for a short break – though at full occupancy, two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living space. That’s all forgiven when you step outside and catch the sea views, and see how close you are to the beach. We can already imagine ourselves sitting back with an aromatic cup of coffee, taking in the sweeping vistas and soaking up the relaxed beachside vibe, the smell of the lovingly planted flowers, and the sound of gently lapping waves wafting through the sea-scented air.  

Spend your days here exploring the pretty Bay of Portissol, sunning yourself on the beach and dropping in for a dip in the cool, clear waters. Of course, this being France, there's no shortage of great restaurants where you can savour the irresistible flavours of the local cuisine. Perhaps one of our favourite things to do in the area is to spend an hour or two meandering through the bustling market that takes place every Wednesday morning along the tree-lined Allée d'Estienne d'Orves. Select your favourites from the freshest regional produce, before taking your buys back to the well-equipped kitchen and whipping up something delicious.

Sitting peacefully on the shores of Hyères, this apartment is the ideal base for a magical coastal break. You can spend your days on the beach or relaxing by the shared swimming pool. When it’s time to change up the pace, head to the beach for sailing, diving, watersports, and swimming. Or squeeze in a round of golf at the famous Frégate golf course, with its breathtaking views over the island of Embiez. Whatever you choose to do, it seems impossible not to relax here.

The vistas are great from the living space too (this room also sleeps two guests on a sofa bed at full occupancy). Even with fees for towels and linen, we think this apartment is a great find.
