This Grade-II listed Georgian townhouse in the historic Cheshire town of Congleton doesn't shortchange guests when it comes to rooms. Throw open your windows in the morning, and you’ll hear birdsong – you might even see a passing deer or two. Whip up a quick breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen, and then put on your walking shoes. Miles of open countryside await right on your doorstep – the cottage is at the end of a drive where the village gives way to the natural world. You can spend entire days hiking the patchwork of fields and farms crisscrossed by a web of brooks. You’ll quickly work up an appetite after all that exploring. You can grab a meal in the village pub, the local chippy or the Tandoori restaurant. However, if you want more variety, a five-minute drive will take you to nearby Ramsbottom, where you'll have a much wider choice of cafes, restaurants, and food shops. A thirty-minute drive will have you in central Manchester, in the heart of all that the city has to offer. In the evening, fill the bathtub and feel the relaxation wash over you. 


Babbling Brooks

The medieval town of Shrewsbury is the truly historic heart of Shropshire, with nearly 700 listed buildings in a town of just over 70,000 people. With such a striking skyline and such fine examples of 15th-century construction techniques, it’s no surprise that your home is another architectural marvel. This terraced house has been completely refurbished in a superbly modern fashion. Our favourite spot has to be the bright and airy open-plan living space. With its wonderful bi-folding doors, this clever design essentially removes the wall between your home and your south-facing courtyard garden (perfect for the unpredictable English weather). Mid-century furniture looks stylish in the lounge, while the roll-top tub up in the master en-suite brings a vintage edge to proceedings. For more on local history, take a stroll through town to reach Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery in just eighteen minutes. Another fantastic walk is along the River Severn. Your home is just three minutes from the riverbank, from where you can follow it all the way across the border to Wales. It’s definitely one for experienced hikers with a strong pair of boots though, at just over ten miles away.

Town of Flowers

Located on a farm in the heart of the Peak District, this home puts you on the doorstep of some of the UK’s most beautiful vistas. Drive twenty minutes to hike Robin Hood’s Cave and make an even shorter trip to Froggatt Edge, Padley Gorge, and many other scenic points. 

There is nothing quite like getting back in touch with nature to restore a sense of peace and even if hiking isn’t your idea of fun, you can still establish that connection just by sitting down outside. We recommend watching at least one sunrise from the garden chair as you nurse your first coffee of the day. 

Back inside the kitchen’s generous size lends itself to experiments and collaborative meals – flip pancakes and set up a topping station where everyone can get as creative as they’d like. 

Walk the grounds – you might even run into resident black lab, Digby, along the way – and have an impromptu kickabout with a football. Set the timer on your phone's camera and pose for a group photo with nothing but green expanse as a background. 

At night, when you’ve returned from a quintessentially British visit to the local pub, you can kindle the woodburner and sit back for cosy conversation before a soak in the tub and a peaceful night’s sleep in one of the comfortable bedrooms.
