Just under twenty minutes in the car will see you arrive at Land's End, Britain's most south-westerly point and a famous landmark.

We love Sennen beach for the waves, but Penzance is just as easy to get to if you prefer building sandcastles.

On chilly days, you can throw a log on the fire and get comfy on the sofa with a good book and a glass of red wine. And, when you get hungry, you can whip up some family favourites in the kitchen, before serving your culinary creations at the cosy dining table. 

Mousehole Harbour is a sandy spot, so we think you'll spend much of your time paddling, eating ice cream, and watching the boats bobbing in the water. Culture fans will be delighted to discover that the little village is home to a few art galleries. And, if you fancy a day trip, you can visit hidden coves, ancient stone circles, and the historic port of Penzance, all within easy driving distance.

Once declared 'the loveliest village in England' by Dylan Thomas, 'Mowzul' is an ever-popular place to visit with narrow streets lined with historic cottages. Set over three floors, this former fisherman's loft is Grade II listed and has just the right balance of character features and modern, coastal-inspired styling. On the ground floor, a modern, eat-in kitchen provides everything you'll need for cooking at home, while the comfortable living room upstairs has the home's main entrance, an electric fire and a charming window seat. The top floor bedrooms are pretty special and we particularly love the vaulted ceilings and clever internal porthole windows. From the master bedroom, you can even see across to St Clement's Isle and beyond – what could be better? Stroll to the nearby, shops, cafes and restaurants or drive to Lamorna Cove (ten minutes) or Penzance (fifteen minutes).

Perch on the window seat with a good book in hand. Or better still, when the weather is being kind make your way outside to take in the fresh sea air.

After ample lounging, make a beeline for the Jubilee Pool (a two-minute walk)  – the UK's biggest and most celebrated art deco seawater lido – or take a stroll along the Penzance Promenade, just one minute away on foot. Penzance Harbour is also a six-minute stroll, while the picturesque fishing village of Mousehole is a nine-minute drive away.

After a day of sea air, come back home and pop a record on as you fire up the barbecue for an alfresco feast under the stars.

We loved this home’s wooden deck – with stunning sea views, a dining table, barbecue, two loungers and Adirondacks facing the ocean, it’s fully equipped for time well-spent outside. Factor in that you’re less than a ten-minute walk from the beach and you have a real winner. Meander down the South West Coast Path to laidback Sennen Cove with its stretch of golden sand and tropical-blue water. Here Cornish fishermen brush shoulders with tousle-haired surfers. We recommend renting a board and catching a wave – there are two highly-rated surf schools in the area. When you return home, hit the outdoor shower and set your wetsuits to dry in the warm utility room before heading inside, where you’ll find it’s just as lovely as its surroundings – smart and minimal with touches of nautical chic. We especially love the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living area. Kick back on the sofas and play a board game or puzzle all together. Then gather around the light wood table for a feast before retiring to the bedrooms for some restful sleep, knowing there’s another beautiful seaside morning waiting for you when you awake.

Near the picturesque village of Mousehole, this home blows us away with panoramic sea views. Making the most of the good weather is easy when you have multiple seating areas to choose from. Indoors, we love the contemporary design, and that the twin room can be set up for a couple instead. Though the bathtubs offer relaxation, take care not to bump your head on sloped ceilings. You can reach Newlyn on foot, but the well-known Penzance is only a ten-minute drive from here.

The Bay Dreams

Situated in Mousehole, one of Cornwall’s prettiest fishing villages, this cottage is a cosy stay from which to explore the coast and beyond. The interiors are neutral-toned and homespun, with the occasional nod to the abode’s nautical surroundings. Spend late mornings pottering around the kitchen-living space; slather Cornish clotted cream on scones and enjoy with a pot of tea on the sun trap patio. Slip on your sandals and take a stroll along the harbour, just metres from your doorstep. Dip in and out of locally-owned galleries and cafes before settling in with an ice-cool beverage by the water’s edge. When you’re keen to expend a little more energy, lace up your walking shoes and set off on the fifty-four-minute ramble to Lamorna Cove Beach. As soon as hunger bites, take the ten-minute drive to the town of Newlyn for an irresistible selection of seafood restaurants – the Michelin Guide recommended Tolcarne Inn was one of our favourites.

From here, it’s just a short walk to the nearest beach, shops, bakery and charming pubs, while the coast is brimming with opportunities for long hikes, cycle rides and sightseeing. Penzance and the majestic St Michael’s Mount are within easy driving distance.

The tiny hamlet of Crowlas is home to this rustic stone cottage, located less than a five-minute walk from the village centre. Stepping foot inside this former hay barn, the interiors might surprise you. While the furnishings and the kitchen are wonderfully modern, the wooden stairs and the wood burning stove are gorgeous, rustic features which make the space feel warm and homely. After a windswept day at the beach, coming home will feel like bliss when you can curl up by the fire with a cup of tea. And the flames continue outside. With a fire pit and a barbecue, the kids can roast marshmallows while someone else handles the burgers on the grill. This garden is a stunning spot where you can let the little ones run around – and you can lie back in the sun loungers to enjoy the serenity of the countryside. For a day out of your sanctuary, hop in the car and head through the village to pick up picnic supplies. As the crow flies, you’re under two miles from the rugged coasts of Cornwall. However, we recommend checking out the fishing village of Padstow, about an hour away. Or St Ives is only a fifteen-minute drive from home, where you can visit high-end restaurants and visit the Tate Gallery.

Carbis bay beach is just a fifteen-minute walk away down the hill where you can go swimming in its shallow crystal clear waters. Continue your walk a little further to the popular resort town of St Ives, reachable in thirty-five minutes (or eight minutes by car or bus). With the Tate, Barbara Hepworth Museum, lots of beautiful beaches great for swimming or surfing, as well as an array of independent shops, restaurants and cafes – this home is sure to fulfil the needs of surfers. walkers, swimmers, cyclists and art lovers.

The surrounding area offers plenty to see and do, including many glorious places to eat, but it's always lovely returning back to this cosy cottage. Later on in the day, you might drive to Mousehole Harbour – just five minutes away – to admire the boats and tuck into fish and chips. This home was built in 1868 but its location is timeless.

Elsewhere, the charming village of Mousehole is a twenty-minute drive and Penzance is reachable by car in ten.

From May until September, you will be able to experience a variety of plays and concerts with an incredible ocean backdrop stretching to Logan Rock headland in the distance. 

For Cornwall’s famous surfing waves, Porthchapel Beach is a short five-minute drive away. Plus, there is plenty of beautiful scenery and attractions on offer with easy reach from this home including, Penzance – a nineteen-minute drive away, and Land’s End – reachable in eight minutes by car. 

In the late afternoon, we would love nothing more than to spend some time in the home’s wrap-around garden, sunbathing on the loungers and enjoying a Cornwall cream tea at the picnic table.
